We scattered Jon and Fiona together on Bondi Beach. As they washed away, the rainbow you see in the banner appeared and we'll always think of them together when we see one.
Obituary
With great sadness, we share the passing of Jonathan Alec Parker, who was born on 12 September 1977 and passed away on 11 May 2026 in Sydney, Australia, aged 48.
Jon was the son of Fiona and Dene, and brother to Jane, Matt, and Dan. A happy, contented child who had muscles even as a baby. They'd call out Baby Bam Bam and he would respond by flexing.
Growing up on Auckland's North Shore, he attended Sherwood Primary, Northcross Intermediate and Rangitoto College. He grew into a hardworking young man, briefly starting an apprenticeship in mechanics before becoming a builder which continued to be his profession following his move to Sydney. He was a natural at sports including athletics, badminton, rugby and rugby league and a keen skateboarder. He loved spending time with his friends. Many will recall him pull out his signature dance move, the caterpillar.
He shared a particularly close bond with his mum, Fiona, living with her for much of the time she was in Sydney and caring for her through her cancer journey. Her loss was something he never truly recovered from. In his final years, Jon fought private battles with grief and addiction, that too many people face alone. But Jon was so much more than his hardest years — he will be remembered for his love, his friendship, his cheeky grin and his fun loving nature.
Throughout his life, Jon built lasting connections and his reach spread far and wide. The people whose lives he touched span two countries, multiple friendship groups, workmates and family who each carry a piece of him. We are all struggling to process what has happened.
We warmly invite friends and family to share stories, photos and memories of Jon which we hope will be of comfort in our shared grief. To do so please use the Memory Wall and Gallery sections on this page. Even one photo, a small memory or a few words means the world to those who were closest to him. Please feel free to share this page with those who knew him www.online-tribute.com/JonParker.
A private cremation has already occurred, and Jon’s ashes were scattered with his mum at the south end of Bondi Beach. It is a comfort to know that they are together again.
Jon's friends in New Zealand are organising a get together in Browns Bay on 6 June 2026. Please visit the Farewell section on this page to RSVP.
Jon will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
