A life that touched so many hearts will be forever remembered.
Memoir
Monica Ryan (née Lai), Forever 40
Mon was born in the Solomon Islands to Jack and May. Growing up in the Solomons meant that life was carefree, filled with sunshine and the beauty of nature. She spent her childhood in Rove, in a house right by the beach, where her love for the ocean blossomed. The crystal-clear blue sea, the white sand, and the warmth of the sun were her playground. Mon had a special fondness for turtles, frangipanis, and seashells, each representing a piece of her vibrant spirit. Her presence always lit up a room, drawing people to her with a sparkle that continues to shine.
Mon's life was a testament to love, laughter, and loyalty. Her passion for the beach was obvious to all who knew her. As a keen beach goer, she often organised beach days that brought friends and family closer together. Her infectious energy inspired everyone around her to embrace the outdoors, soak up the sun, and create unforgettable memories.
Mon's deep faith and love for Jesus guided every aspect of her life. Her belief brought hope, joy, and purpose, even in the face of challenges. Mon's kindness, compassion, and dedication to helping others reflected Christ's teachings. Throughout her battle with cancer, she found strength and comfort in her unwavering trust in God. Her joy in worship and community was contagious, inspiring others to deepen their own faith.
Mon was a devoted and nurturing mother to her wonderful son and daughter. She poured her heart into raising them, prioritising their happiness and well-being. Her love for her son and daughter was noticeable in every aspect of her life as she guided them with faith, wisdom, and unconditional affection. Mon’s legacy as a mother will be cherished by her children, who carry the values and love she instilled in them.
We take comfort knowing that Mon and Eddie, her brother, are both sitting in the presence of our Father. Mon has returned home, fully healed and whole. She faced her battle with stoic strength, on her own terms and with the Lord unmistakably by her side. Though we deeply wished for her to stay a lot longer with us, we trust the Lord needed her to start a new and greater assignment.
She leaves behind her precious children, parents, Jack and May, her sisters, Frances and Lisa and husband Sean. Mon is deeply missed by her family and friends. Her memory will live on through the lives she touched, whose hearts have been enriched by her steadfast love, strength, and courage.
Her radiance and joyful spirit remain a beacon of light that continues to inspire and encourage those who were blessed to know her.
