In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.

Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved son Macharia who went to be with the Lord on the 14th of April 2026. He was a loving son, who formed deep meaningful bonds with those with whom he interacted, he possessed uncommon kindness, showed great love and genuine compassion to all.

He was the beloved grandson of the late John Ngigi Macharia, the late Veronica Wamboi Macharia of Nakuru and the late William Ndala Wamalwa and the late Rose Nanjala Wamalwa with whom he was very close.

He was a nephew of Jane Wangui Waweru (Loitoktok), James Kamau Macharia (South Africa), the late Rose Wanjeri Macharia, Peter Merumo Macharia, Sam Kanyingi Macharia, the late Isaac Mwangi Macharia and Doreen Namulanda Wamalwa, Jerry Wamalwa, Eric Wamalwa and Edgar Wamalwa.

Macharia was the nicest person I’ve ever met. He was always good vibes and was so cool. Every time I saw him, I’d comment on how much longer his dreads had grown.

Rest in peace Mach, I will cherish the memories we shared

Your father is a big friend of mine and more like a mentor. Macharia, I stand with him today as he lays you to rest, carrying a sorrow deeper than words can fully express.

To your father, you were not just a son, but a source of pride, joy, and hope. The bond you shared is one that time cannot erase, and even in this moment of great pain, the love he has for you remains unbroken.

Macharia, as we say our final goodbye, I want your father to know that your life mattered deeply, and your memory will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew you. May he find strength in the legacy you leave behind, and comfort in the love that will never fade.

Rest in peace, son. You will always be remembered.

Twenty-seven is too soon
only to the clock.
To something older than clocks,
Macharia is measured in what he touched,
what he broke open,
what he left luminous
in those who remain.
Macharia has not left.
He has simply moved
to where he always partly was —
behind the silence,
in the still water of a thought,
in the moment you almost understand
everything, and then breathe.
Grieve him fully.
Macharia would want that —
he understood that grief
is just love
with nowhere left to go,
still looking.
May his mother be held by the same
vast knowing Macharia carried.
May it find her.
May it also find his brother, sister, and
every heart that has his shape in it.

The last time I saw Macharia, I thought he was calm & respectful. I was visiting his home when he came over, said hello & left us. I had seen him once before at a family gathering. He was a man of few words. I would ask about him from time to time when my sons, who are good friends with Wamalwa, his younger brother visited their home. & hear that he was well, but they didn’t see him much. I put that down to their age differences & concluded, Macharia had other grown up stuff to do. I had no idea he was struggling. The news of his passing shocked me. There is no greater pain. May he rest in peace eternal. To his mother my dear friend Betty, sending you hugs of comfort, love & light. To Wamalwa, Wambui, receive lots of love, kindness, support at this time & always. I cannot begin to comprehend your pain & sense of loss. I pray that God will comfort you all. Macharia rests now. We honour his memory. May he rest easy.

Macharia was one of my closest friends during our time at Nairobi Academy, and I’m truly heartbroken to hear this news. My deepest condolences to his family and everyone who knew and loved him.

He will always have a place in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

Kind regards
