Although I never had the chance to meet you in person, you managed to profoundly influence the way I view aviation and the respect for this profession. For me and for many other enthusiasts, you were more than a pilot: you were a benchmark of discipline, calm in difficult situations and professional perfection.
Your career at Lufthansa and your involvement in training generations of pilots demonstrated not only technical competence, but also an immense responsibility towards flight safety and towards the people you carried through the skies. Every take-off and every landing under your command was a lesson in trust and professionalism. For many of us, especially those passionate about aviation, you were a source of inspiration. You transformed aviation into a noble vocation, where precision, respect and passion meet at the highest level. Even though the world knows you by numbers, flight hours and aircraft types, for me you will remain an example of a man who truly loved the sky.
Today, when I say goodbye to you, I do not do it as an end, but as a continuation. Your legacy lives on in every pilot you trained, in every flight performed safely thanks to the standards you supported, and in every aviation enthusiast who dreamed further because of you.

Ich habe diesen Menschen Jürgen Raps nie persönlich kennenlernen dürfen, sondern nur in unzähligen Beiträgen im Internet, Fernsehen etc. seine Dokumentationen, Interviews usw. verfolgt. Mir ist er dabei regelrecht, sorry, ans Herz gewachsen durch seine ruhige, besonnene, wortgewandte und auch charmant witzige Art.
Ich wünsche der Familie Raps alle notwendige Kraft, diesen mit 74 Jahren viel zu frühen Verlust zu verkraften. Mit dem Tod eines geliebten Menschen verliert man vieles, niemals aber die gemeinsam verbrachte Zeit.

Wie gesagt, ich kenne Jürgen Raps leider nicht persönlich und bin insofern natürlich auch "nur weiter weg", aber dennoch sehr, sehr traurig........

Mit höchstem Respekt und höchster Wertschätzung sage ich noch einmal:

Durch Zufall habe ich erfahren, dass Jürgen Raps nicht mehr unter uns ist. Ich bin entsetzt. 74 Jahre ist heute ja fast kein Alter mehr. Leider habe ich Jürgen nie persönlich getroffen. Aber ich denke, dass er ein erfülltes Leben hatte. Es erinnert wieder einmal daran, dass man jeden Tag genießen sollte. Durch PilotsEYE.tv lebt Jürgen sicherlich viele Jahrzehnte weiter und auch darüber hinaus. Vor allem bei seinen Fans und in der Luftfahrt-Community. Ich wünsche seiner Familie alles Gute für die Zukunft.

Jürgen Raps hat nicht nur Spuren der Liebe im Himmel, sondern auch Spuren im Herzen tausender Flugfans hinterlassen.
Ja, fliegen ist eine Leidenschaft. Jeder Start ein Symbol für etwas Neues- ein Weg zu unseren Träumen, unseren Zielen und Hoffnungen. Ein Flug bei Tag, weite lichtdurchflutete Räume- ferne Horizonte. Ein Flug bei Nacht- und die Wolkendecke schimmert in Mondlicht getünchter Pracht. Flugzeuge verbinden Kontinente, Kulturen und Herzen.
Jürgen Raps, Du wirst für immer in unserem Herzen bleiben. Du warst nicht nur Pilot, du warst vor allem ein wunderbarer fröhlicher Mensch, Freund, Ehemann und Vater.
Du warst Hoffnungsträger tausender Pilotenanwärter. Du hast auch mich inspiriert, mich selbst zu sein. Dein fröhliches Strahlen im Gesicht leuchtete wie die Sonne.

I am an aviation enthusiast for my entire life. Luckily, my profession gave me the chance to explore the world with flying. Lufthansa is my favorite airline and they rewarded me with their highest status. Back in 2012 I saw first time PIlot´s Eye TV with Jürgen Raps. I was stunned and from now on Jürgen Raps was one of my heroes in aviation. Once, while waiting for my flight in the Senator Lounge in Hamburg, I met Jürgen Raps and had a little chat with him. He was so gentle and we had a very good conversation. We spoke about growing white asparagus in Arizona, watching football and other things. Finally, he allowed to take a photo with him. I am still proud having talked to him. Rest in peace, dear Jürgen Raps!

I grew up with aviation, I live in an aviation family working at LH. I remember I watched the classic Pilots.Eye TV video of Jürgen Rapps Flying his final rotation with the A380, the full 2 hours. I then needed to change my currency on the app store and had to spend 0.99€ Cents, I decided to try a flight simulator on the phone. I flew the A320 and eventually the A380 trying to mimic DLH454 to San Fransisco. I have watched that video over and over again, learning more and more about the aviation industry and what duties follow with becoming a pilot. Jürgen Rapps has been truly inspirational and been the key stone to what myself and many other pilots look up to and strive to represent when completing the complex tasks this job throws at us. I now stand before becoming a fully fledged airline pilot and I have both the people at pilots-eye and Jürgen Rapps to thank. Truly inspirational.

To Captain Raps' family and to his Lufthansa family, I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm an avgeek and loyal Star Alliance passenger who enjoyed very much the flight videos of Captain Raps, especially his last two flights as Captain FRASFO and SFOFRA. I wish I had been a passenger on one of these two special flights. I'm saddened by his passing ... Captain Raps reminded me very much of my honorary father in Switzerland. Thank you for being an iconic inspiration of excellence, Captain Raps ... even to those of us who don't work in aviation. Herzlichen Dank. Our skies are forever safer and better because of you. I will raise a glass to you during my next flight.

I watched the you tube video of his last trip to SFO with joy when I norticed that I was looking at history .. to find out this nice person and great aviation member has passed away, My condolances for the relatives and friends

I just found out tha captain Jurgen Raps passed away in December. What a loss what a perfect gentleman great pilot watch this video the last flight from San Francisco to Frankfurt many times rest in peace, captain Klaus.

My father was a pilot and I have flown a little myself and often watch flying YouTube videos. I heard of Jurgen's passing recently and last night I rewatched his San Fran flights and was very moved and seeing the photos from his career and particularly from post retirement just now brought a tear to my eye. He was obviously massively respected and rightly so, but also seemed to be a very liked individual. His send off in SFR was special in many ways and I enjoyed seeing him riding is Harley on the apron of a live airport and a very busy one at that! He reminds me of my father - he shares many of the same characteristics, also rode motorcycle's (Norton's) and he too left us too early (only 67) without fully enjoying the retirement he deserved. RIP Captain and condolences to his colleagues, friends and family.

"Träume nicht dein Leben – lebe deinen Traum." Jürgen, ich bin mir inzwischen sicher, dass du wirklich daran geglaubt hast. Du warst mein Held. Und aus einem wunderbar langen Gespräch entstand eine Freundschaft mit vielen kleinen Momenten. Deine letzte Nachricht war erst wenige Tage her.

Du hast meinen Weg ins Cockpit verfolgt – Schritt für Schritt. Für dich spielte es nie eine Rolle, ob jemand mit Anfang zwanzig bei Lufthansa begann oder – wie ich – erst mit über vierzig den Weg ins Cockpit fand. Für dich gab es nur zwei Arten von Menschen: Jene, die das Fliegen liebten – und den Rest.

„You should never meet your heroes.“ Denn manchmal verliert das Große seinen Zauber, wenn man ihm nahekommt. Du hast ihn nie verloren. Nach unserem Treffen in Arizona wurdest du nicht kleiner. Du wurdest größer – als Pilot, und als Mensch.

Immer eine Handbreit Luft unter deinem Flügel auf der letzten Reise. Du wirst mir fehlen.

Ein toller Mann - ein Vorbild!
Ein erfülltes aber viel zu kurzes Leben.

I heard the sad news through some comments on YouTube and, in disbelief, I came to this page. I only knew him through online videos, and he was the pilot I dreamed of meeting in the left seat of my flight. Fly high, captain, and a big hug to your family. Gianluca

I was Station Manager in KWI, at the time when Irak occupied this Emirate. After a dramatic travel to BGW, LH sent an Airbus to bring out all captured german hostiges. I was one of them. I asked Jürgen, what would happen, if we could not accommodate all persons on board, as I felt responsible for the handling of the flight. His simple answer was: we will take everybody, even if they have to sit on the floor! I never met a person of his character and great attitude.

Training Captain, Chief Pilot, Member of the Lufthansa Executive Board, first Lufthansa Pilot to fly the A380, Head of the Pilot School - the list is long, but even in Top Management you were always approachable, cared for your employees, valued the Pilot Corps, and were just a great guy !
Our paths first crossed during a 6-month Management Training at the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel on the Rhine River , but after that we went in different directions.
Because of your passion for the Pilot School and since I had been assigned the Head of it we met again regularly when you visited and later moved to Arizona to make this the new home for Bettina and yourself.
I will never forget your last flight on the A380 from SFO to FRA for which you had invited me. You flew the low pass over the Golden Gate Bridge, the low pass over RWY 25R in Frankfurt and the cockpit was full! I am not sure how many of us actually had a seat and a belt for landing :-)
As retirees we shared od passion for Golf and the "Back 9 with Breakfast" at Stonecreek Golf Course became a regular routine for us. We were always the first flight out, after 9 holes (enough for us elderly gents) the first ones enjoying a heavy breakfast with eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage and everything else we would not get at home and enjoying the view of the Squaw Peak Mountains.
.... I will find another Golf Buddy, Juergen, but none like you !

Mit großer Betroffenheit habe ich vom Tod von Jürgen Raps erfahren. Auch ohne ihn persönlich gekannt zu haben, haben mich seine Videos und seine Leidenschaft fürs Fliegen sehr beeindruckt. Als Student war ich 2 mal Flugbegleiter bei LH, dann hat mich das Leben eingeholt. Fliegen war immer meins und als ich mit 41 eine Möglichkeit sah doch noch in Richtung Pilot zu denken, habe ich 1992 den Versuch gemacht. Ich kam hoch bis zu einem Telefongespräch mit dem Chef der Flugschule Bremen, Jürgen Raps. Er aus Bayreuth, ich aus Südbayern.

Es dauerte 3 Monate, sogar mit seiner Mutter habe ich telefoniert. Es kam zu einem treffen an einer Autobahnraststätte oberhalb von Nürnberg und er ist mir tatsächlich 1 Std. von Bayreuth aus entgegengefahren. Er hat eine Stunde Tips verteilt.

Erst jetzt habe ich erfahren wem ich damals vor 33 Jahren begegnet bin.

In der Position so souverän und liebenswert, Respekt.

Herr Raps war der Auslöser, warum ich mich heute für alles rund um das Thema Fliegen interessiere. Die Folge seines letzten Fluges hat den Anstoß gegeben, dass ich heute unzählige Videos, Filme, Bücher, Zeitschriften, Flugzeugmodelle uvm besitze und kein Tag vergeht, an dem ich mich nicht damit beschäftige.
Herr Raps, machen Sie es gut auf Ihrer letzten Reise.

Which Lufthansa new joiner did not hear of legendary Captain Jürgen Raps within a few weeks of joining. And then on March 19, 2011, I had the pleasure and honor to be on a A380 media and promo flight from Istanbul to Malta with PiC Jürgen Raps: Touch-and-Go, Lowpass and a Wing Wave inclusive. All of it planned and executed with calm, like it were the most normal thing to do. What else… Thank you for being an inspiration to so many. RIP. 🤲 🕯️

Du warst ein guter Chef!

Jürgen and I were best friends since he retired and moved to Arizona. We played golf together, went on trips and met once a week to share our passion for Soccer and the Aviation Industry. We had sometimes heated, but always inspiring discussions about politics and global affairs. He was larger than life.
Juergen, I will miss you! RIP

Unvergessen bleibt auch unser Besuch in Phoenix vor ca. 10 Jahren mit Abstechern zum Grand Canyon und nach Las Vegas mit beeindruckenden Erlebnissen.

Lieber Jürgen, ich weiß gar nicht, was ich sagen soll. Leider habe ich durch deine letzte Reise erfahren, dass Bettina letztes Jahr dir vorausgegangen ist. Was mich noch mehr betroffen macht. Einziger Trost, ihr seid nun wieder vereint. Gerne erinnere ich mich an unsere schöne Nachbarschaft, unsere angenehmen Gespräche beim Italiener nebenan und vor allem an eure Bodenständigkeit, Gelassenheit und Dankbarkeit. Als ihr endgültig zurück nach Phoenix gezogen seid, durfte ich mir Erinnerungsstücke aus eurer Wohnung behalten. Noch heute hängt in meinem Büro ein Gemälde, welches mich immer an euch denken lässt. Ich bin wirklich sehr, sehr traurig. Ich war nur die Nachbarin, die auf eure Wohnung aufgepasst hat, wenn ihr unterwegs wart. Aber eure Wertschätzung dafür war enorm, welche ich nie vergessen werde. Captain JR was the inspiration, the reason why I became a commercial pilot. Watching his finals flights when I was 16 y.o. on Pilot's eye YT channel, made me work and turn my dream of being a pilot, into reality. My first touch with aviation was then and I couldn't have been more happy that it was with a pilot like CPT. Raps. He was, is and will forever be my role model for a pilot and aviator. Have a safe journey on your last mission, captain Juergen Raps!

Im Alter von 12 Jahren wurde ich durch pilotseye.tv großer Fan von JR und entschied ihm eine email zu schreiben. Überraschenderweise bekam ich eine Antwort von meinem Hero, in der er seine riesengroße Begeisterung für die Luftfahrt mit mir teilte und mich motivierte.
Jetzt bin ich selbst Pilot in einer kleinen italienischen airline der LH Gruppe und hab seit Anfang meiner Karriere ein Satz von Jürgens Passagieransagen in meine geführt. So weit haben seine Worte die Luftfahrt geprägt!

Danke für ihren Vorbild, Sie werden weiterhin mit ihren Fans fliegen.
