In Loving Memory of Francis Sangalang

Francis Sangalang was born on February 26 in Manila, Philippines, to his loving parents, Joan and Emmanuel Sangalang. He was a devoted older brother to Jacob and Georgina, and a cherished son, friend, and light to all who knew him. From a young age, Francis grew up surrounded by family and friends who remember him as carefree, kind-hearted, and full of love.

Francis was truly gifted. He displayed exceptional intelligence early in life, particularly in mathematics, earning recognition as a 5th-grade Presidential Award recipient presented by President Barack Obama. His curiosity, discipline, and natural brilliance set him apart, and he approached learning with both passion and humility.

Beyond academics, Francis had a deep love for sports, especially basketball. Inspired by Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors’ dominance during the 2017 era, he played with enthusiasm and joy, embodying the same determination and spirit he admired.

In November 2018, during his freshman year at Downtown Magnets High School, Francis was diagnosed with bone cancer. With incredible strength and resilience, he underwent chemotherapy and was declared cancer-free in July 2019. However, in February 2021, his cancer returned. Once again, Francis faced this battle with courage, choosing to step away from school to focus on his treatment and recovery.

Through every challenge, Francis remained a symbol of perseverance, grace, and quiet strength. His journey was not defined by illness, but by the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the legacy of courage he leaves behind.

Francis will forever be remembered as a beloved son, a caring brother, a loyal friend, and a brilliant young mind whose light continues to shine in the hearts of those who knew him.
