Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Cynthia Lynn LaPrelle and William Rogers LaPrelle III. They both passed peacefully with loved ones by their side and will be missed by many.

Cynthia was born to Haskell and Ethel on March 23rd, 1948 in Dallas, Texas. She loved dolls, comic books, playing dress-up, and her Barbie had a US map and a handgun in her purse. She learned to cook and sew from her mother with ease and enjoyed and excelled at these hobbies for the rest of her life. While she was growing up the family always shared the house with a cat, a dog, or a bird. She had cherished memories of the horses that her grandfather picked for her to ride during summer visits to the farm in Mississippi. Her love for animals was a strong constant in her life and she took in or adopted many strays over the years and cared deeply for them.

After high school she acted in productions at Theatre Three in Dallas, including an amazing performance as Joan of Arc. Cynthia was an avid reader and especially loved fantasy, folk, celtic, and Star Trek novels. Some of her favorites were Seabiscuit, The Mists of Avalon, and The Hobbit. She also loved baseball, crime noir radio shows, and attending the theatre and watching movies; some of her favorites being The Commitments, Kiss Me Kate, The Lost Boys, and Galaxy Quest. While she worked for KLBJ she took much pride in spending time with Luci Baines Johnson and was excited to receive their Christmas cards for many years. She took up Scottish Country dancing in the 90s, creating her own traditional Scottish outfits for the professional performances she did. And in 2003, she earned her Massage Therapy License. This would be her career until she retired some years later. Cynthia is survived by her daughter Rio Dupuy.

Roger was born to William and Sarah on June 27th, 1947 in ?, Oklahoma



Roger and Cynthia (Cynde) met officially in Austin, Texas in 2001. But, they both admitted to eyeing each other within their friend group for some time. Both expert tailors well before they met, a great passion of theirs was designing and making full renaissance and pirate costumes together to attend local faires and themed parties. Cynthia also specialized in recreating 1920s-1940s dresses from her mother's patterns and Roger always created the perfect look to match. They shared a love of the sounds of wolves howling, F1 racing, wine and beer, fantasy novels, Irish/Scottish folk music, camping, dancing, rocky coasts, whiskey tastings, gardening, real fairies, and British comedies. They married on October 10th under the Hunter's Moon, and held fast to each other for the rest of their lives. They spent their honeymoon traveling around New Mexico, spending many nights in Taos (one of their favorite cities), and ending with a Star Talk at McDonald Observatory. After leaving Austin, Texas in 2007 they lived for many years in Olympia, Washington and enjoyed pirate gatherings and renaissance campouts (in full costume of course!), boating shows, and going to the local fishmonger. In 2022 they moved to Albany, Oregon and spent their time gardening, decorating for every season, pursuing their hobbies, and nesting in their small home. Their love was all encompassing, unwavering, and they completed each other perfectly. 

They both felt at home when in Ireland and Scotland, traveled there multiple times, and have requested their ashes be spread there together. The family will honor this wish by coming together for a special journey to celebrate their memory and retrace the steps of their favorite adventures.
