Semper Fidelis: Latin for "Always Faithful" was 100% Woody!

Obituary

Woodrow Rayfield Colyott, affectionally known as Woody, passed away November 3, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. We are comforted knowing he is at peace with the Lord.

Born in Riggins, Idaho on January 2, 1941. Woody has always been hardworking and fiercely patriotic, drawing him to enlist in the Marine Corps. His military adventures as a helicopter mechanic included time at Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Camp Lejeune and travel all over the world. Service was part of who Woody was, US Forest Service, while also serving in the Washington State National Guard and later retiring from. Woody was also a top-rated Mechanic and even going on to teaching at risk youth mechanics. Being a machinist on Bangor blended his mechanical abilities and heart to serve. After retiring Woody jumped back into working as Kitsap Transit Access bus driver. While working for Kitsap Transit, he met Martha who would later become his wife.

Woody took hobbies to a different level! Not only did he like to shoot, but he was accomplished at shooting trap, hunting, teaching hunter education, and sharing his knowledge and passion with everyone. He was also a member of Jaycees, Mason, NRA, Grangeville Gun Club, and Poulsbo Sportsman Club, holding many important board and range officer roles. He shared his passion for gun knowledge, safety, rights and shooting with all.

Woody was blessed with a blended family before blended families were popular! He experienced loss at very young age, losing his sister Gayle. He grew up in Idaho with his sister Judy Dippold and learned later in life he had siblings in Arizona, Laura Bryant, Charles Colyott, Daniel Colyott, Edward Colyott, and John Colyott. Woody may not have had biological children, but he did have many bonus kids whom he cherished as family. Mike Love, Teresa (Mike) DePuis, Tim (Luxmi) Love, Steve (Carrie) Drew, Stephanie Drew, Heather (Ty) Huffer, and Corine Flowers all of whom he loved as his own. His grandchildren held the largest part of his heart, cherishing the example he was able to set and lessons he shared with Brandon Drew, Emily Drew, Jacob Huffer, Denny Huffer, Owen Huffer, and Heather Ward. Woody shared a strong bond with nephew Woody (Debbie) Wright, Todd (Katie) Dippold and niece Montica Ray and along with their children, Kaelin, Conner, Jaiden, Ashten and JW. He was proceeded in death by his dad Roye Edward Colyott, mom Laura Maxine Twiligar, sister Gayle, nephew Todd Dippold, brother-in-law Bob Dippold, and stepson Tim Love. His circle of friends was wide and diverse, a testament to the kindness and joy he shared with everyone he met. Woody leaves behind his beloved wife Martha.

Woody will be honored with a service at 2pm on Monday November 10th, 2025, at the Poulsbo Sportsman Club. Celebrating him on the same day as Marine Corps 250th Birthday is fitting. Being he was not a formal guy, we suggest sporting your patriotic, camo, or even football gear, all things he loved. A family gathering will be held later in the week where his ashes will be spread at the top of the mountain at the family ranch in Oregon.

Woody and I started out in a small logging town on the Clearwater River. He was seven when I was born. His nickname was Bo. I called him BoBo. His comeback was “turn blue.”
He took his brotherly job seriously, thinking he was the boss. Actually, he was an extra parent, always having an eagle eye out for me. He taught me the important things, like how to fist fight, egging me into battle on the school bus. On the walk home, he taught me to stand back, keep quiet and he would do the talking when it was time to talk to mom.
Woody could always think of the most fun things to do. There was a service station across the street from Granny’s. Out front was a wash tub filled with water. We caught a couple of frogs and he showed me how to insert air into the frogs’ mouths and we watched them float on top of the water.
Once we moved to a farm on the prairie, he wasn’t around much for me to tag after him. He picked me up after school one day and we went to a farm that had a litter of puppies under a pile of boards. The owner said it was my job to crawl under the boards and pick out my pup.
Woody was my everything, my person, then he enlisted in the Marines (Land, Sea and Air). I miss you BoBo

He taught me how to shoot, how to be a tough, strong man, and how to appreciate the ways of the past. From old bird field guides, beekeeping guides, and war maps and stories, he was always willing to share his knowledge. He put up with our crazy, chaotic family for years, and participated in many of our memories and traditions. He supported us at baseball games and water polo tournaments. Would share his garden and orchard with us. He was a great man and willing to share his life. He will be missed and honored in every fruit tree I’ll plant and every bird call I recreate.
