William Arthur Shiffermiller

He was the best doctor I ever knew, and I was so fortunate to be a patient. He certainly knew his medicine and his patients. He was brilliant, kind, caring, patient, funny, interested and interesting. Our long appointments would include discussions of what was going on in our lives, Omaha history, and the latest books we'd read. I already miss his care, intelligence, and presence.

Bill was one of my first teachers at UNMC, me a first year medical student in 1977, he was then a resident. He taught me what it meant to be a doctor.

Laura and family.........Bill was one of a kind. He was a fellow co-worker, family physician, and dear friend. He helped me through the death of my husband with honesty and always confidentiality.
Bill, I hope you and Kelly are sharing a beer together!
Bill will be remembered as an outstanding physician, mentor and dearest friend. Peace be with you Bill, fly high!

Bill was an amazing doctor. My favorite doctor.
Very empathetic and able to simplify complicated medical problems thus providing profound peace of mind for patients, and I suspect for staff and colleagues as well.
He was most affable and he will be sorely missed.

Dr Shiffermiller was my primary doctor for 30 years. I only saw him for a physical every few years, but he was the friendliest and most knowledgeable doc I had ever met. I’ll miss him . . .

I will always remember Dr Schiffermiller as a very kind and caring person and respected physician.

Laura, my sincere condolences for the loss of your wonderful husband. It was always a great pleasure to see you both (usually with the Goesers) when you dined with us at Vincenzo's. Forty years in the restaurant business and there were a select group of guests who you new were special. That was Bill. He will be missed dearly.

Over the past 20+ years that I worked with Shiff at Methodist- I can’t say that I ever heard him raise his voice to anyone but always dealt with any issues with compassion, patience and professionalism.
Even when he was dealing with his own health issues, he remained constant in his interactions. Oh that we could all be so blessed to possess his compassion ! ♥️

I met Dr. Shiffermiller when he was our employee health Physician back in the early 80’s and he then became our family Dr. until his retirement. Such a special & caring man & we all still miss him. Our prayers are with his family as they grieve their loss of this special man. 🙏🏼

Oh Dr Shiff. You will never be forgotten. I will never forget your infectious laugh, when you would call patients and we could hear you ar
on the other end of the clinic say Shiffermiller here. Putting your feet up on Dr Crabbs desk even though we put a note that said not to put your feet on the desk. You had a big sweet tooth. You loved when I brought treats and I would get into trouble if i forgot to set some aside for you. And there are many many more memories. Shiff you will be missed. I have known Laura (my sorority sister) and Bill since 1969. I knew when I met Bill they would be a great couple. Over the years, we would run into each other at parties and soccer games and I always left laughing and inspired. It was a tremendous relief for our family to have Dr. Bill for my very senior parents for the last 15 years of their lives. Dr. Bill is my all time favorite Dr. and one of the best men I have ever known. He was inspiring in every way and devoted to Laura and their children. My condolences, Laura and may the memories of a life well lived with Bill bring you comfort.

I have known Bill since grade school. He was a couple of years younger than I. We played sports together and were in the same church youth group. When he came to college he became a fraternity brother of mine. That was when we got a lot closer. When he met and fell in love with Laura his smile got a little bigger. I was fortunate enough to attend their wedding. The memories keep coming back to me every day. He was a great man, friend and doctor. His smile was infectious. My thoughts are with his family and the multitude of friends.

Bill was a superb athlete, a voracious reader, a medical expert, a trusted leader, a family man, a charming wit, a fearless fighter against his cancer, a champion of hospital quality, and a friend to countless people. But what I will remember most is his kindness and compassion. I was so blessed to have him as my physician and friend. We have truly lost a beautiful soul.
