Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories."

Obituary

Vicki Aline (Woodrow) Christensen, 81, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, in Tampa, Florida, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.

Born on October 20, 1944, in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Ernest and Dorothy (Sanderson) Woodrow, Vicki’s early life was spent in Virginia. She spent her high school years in Costa Rica, graduating from Colegio Lincoln in 1963. Upon returning to the United States, she attended Albion College before transferring to the University of Maryland, where she earned her teaching degree in 1968.

In 1969, Vicki married the love of her life, the late James “Jim” Christensen, Jr. The early years of their marriage were spent in Japan during Jim’s Air Force commission—an experience she cherished. The couple eventually settled in Vienna, Virginia, where Vicki dedicated herself to raising her children before returning to school to earn a graduate degree in Accounting from the University of Virginia. She spent most of her professional life as a Certified Public Accountant, a career of which she was immensely proud. In 2013, she retired and relocated to Tampa, FL.

Vicki was known for her kind, compassionate nature and her sharp mind. In recent years, she found joy in the challenge of a 1000-piece puzzle, reading a good book, and the tradition of attending theater productions with her daughter and granddaughter. Above all, Vicki’s greatest happiness was found in the company of her family. Her favorite role was that of a proud and dedicated “Nonni” to her six grandchildren. She was their most devoted advocate and her immense pride in their many activities and accomplishments was evident to everyone she met.

Vicki is survived by her son and daughter in law, Buddy and Jody Christensen, and grandsons Cole, Blake, and Tyler of Vienna, VA, and daughter and son in law, Aline and Eric Major, and grandchildren Ryan, Bryce, and Lauren of Lutz, FL; brother and sister in law, Bob and Jackie Woodrow; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews; and a community of close friends and extended family.

Vicki’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her. May the love she shared continue to bring comfort to those she held dear. A private service to celebrate Vicki’s life will be held at the United States Naval Academy, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Jim.

The family invites those who knew her to share a memory or tribute. In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be made in the form of cards to the family with a favorite memory or that you consider a memorial donation to World Central Kitchen (www.wck.org), an organization Vicki passionately supported.

Vicki and I worked together at Fairfax County Retirement. Her presence always brightened my workday. Although I was sad when she retired, I definitely understood the reasons why it was time to leave Northern VA. Thankfully, we remained long distance friends. I will cherish her wisdom, emotional support and friendship. I agree with Ms. Troup's statement with regards to her love and fierce commitment to her family. Vicki's yearly Christmas Letters showcased how proud she was of everyone from the youngest to the oldest. I will miss her dearly. Your family will be in my prayers for strength and support during this time.

I worked with Vicki at Fairfax County Retirement for many years. She was a true professional and an all around wonderful person. We used to walk together during lunch breaks and I always enjoyed her stories. She loved her family fiercely and will be missed by all!

Your Mom was always so welcoming to me during college breaks and after graduation. She loved you both fiercely and I am glad I knew her. She will live on in the beautiful family she built. I know she is with your dad and is watching over you.

When I was little, coming over to play at the Christensen house meant a great time with Aline and a wonderful warm greeting by Mrs. Christensen. My mother called her Vicki, but to me she’s Mrs. Christensen after all. Life at Marshall Road Elementary was bookended by our moms’ perpetual participation in our scouts, projects, sports, room events, and of course birthday parties. Mrs. Christensen always made me feel at home, cared for, and safe; she made a difference to us kids.
Seeing the pictures posted, I wish I had seen her in her element as Grandmother and mom to two very successful babies of her own. Aline & Buddy I’m so very sorry for your loss and so very happy your parents were able to relish in the families you made.
Love, Rosie's daughter Stephanie
