I have so many stories. I’m 54 and started training with KJN Tony at the age of 5. Most memorable moment in class we were sparring and he always partnered me with this kid that would take cheap shots when KJN would turn his back to us. This class I lost my temper hit the kid in the nose and lip he cried and was bleeding. KJN Tony told me to go out side and wait for him. KJN Tony stopped the bleeding from the kids nose and came out side. I was upset, explained that I’m always partnered with the same kid and he takes cheap shots when sparring and I said, sir when you turn your back it always happens and you don’t see it. KJN Tony responds with “Eddie you don’t think I see this? Why do you think your always partnered with him? I do so because you’re the one who can handle him in the class. Because my back is turned doesn’t mean I’m not watching. You were doing great until you lost your temper. I’m gonna have to suspend you for a week.” I said, yes sir and as he was walking back into the studio he poked his head out and said.. Eddie, man that was one hellva shot. See you in a week and smiled.

I’m so sorry that Tony has moved on in life. He brought so much joy to so many. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the memorial because I’m with Katie in Colorado as she gives life to my first grandchild. Hope your hearts are comforted trusting God’s plan. Sending hugs and prayers for peace.

KJN Tony,
What can I say that has been already shared. Your laughter was loud and infectious. Your smile resonated with everyone. For me I harkin back to my last black belt tests in 2009.
I mentally wasn't in the right spot. There was alot of stuff going on. And before the test when the accident happened to me I thought I had lost my smile. And in one moments in my test I froze. And you came up to me smiled gave me a hug and said I got this. That moment I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Thank you for being the father that I never had. You were very hard on me, and prepared me for hardships I never knew were coming. There were a few lucky ones that you did that for. I never thought the world’s strongest man would have to leave us. Thank you for teaching me to keep getting up and fight! You taught me to not fight what I hate, but to fight for what I love. I’m writing this with tears running down my face, and can’t believe that you are gone. The pain is gone from your body now, so you can forever rest. And I will always smile, when I think about you, or hear your name. Thank you for the love you gave us Master Tony B Thompson. Rest with Love.

KJN Tony,

My brothers and I, Hector Jr and Rey, are forever indebted to you for instilling discipline, excellence, and compassion early in our lives; which directly shaped every single one of our successes to this day.

As children, we looked at you as a giant bear - powerful and dominating in the studio, yet warm and cuddly outside our training.

Having trained under you from 1984-2004, there are so many memories... the humble beginnings at the old Milpitas studio, snow trips to Tahoe, opening of various branches, the Demo Team road trips to perform at all county and state fairs, the birth of your beautiful daughter and seeing her grow before our eyes, our time filming the ABC/Disney TV show "Sidekicks", helping you move to your Gilroy home... just so many memorable times.

Your soul and impact will be sorely missed. Our family sends our deepest condolences to your family and all those you touched.

The smiles captured here are a result of something hilarious Uncle Tony had said that was SO funny, we had to re-take the pic. As Uncle says, "Life is good." These snapshots will always remind me of that statement. And we shall continue this 'good life' for him. Rest in Greatness, Uncle. We love you.❤️

What can I say about Tony B. Thompson, my younger brother, my friend, and his relationship with the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity he joined, over forty-five years ago.

Tony is the fourth child in a family of ten children. Thinking back on his life, he was independent, inquisitive, rambunctious and witty as a young child. He loved to play jokes on his siblings with a big smile on his face. He was one who set goals for himself and quietly worked hard on accomplishing those goals. If you did not pay attention to what he was doing, you would miss how hard he worked to accomplish the goals. As Tony matured in his teenage years, he became serious about life. About this time, he started taking martial arts lessons. He said martial arts gave him an outlet to learning discipline, and building strength with physical exercise. About this time, he opened his first Tae Kwon Do school in Milpitas, CA.

After graduating from San Jose State University, he became interested in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and after attending an informational meeting he decided to submit an application to join the Fraternity.

Tony was impressed with the Cardinal Principles of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. They’re Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift. These principles Tony embraced within his daily life. It was only natural that Tony wanted to join a group of men that practiced these principles.

Manhood was his desire to develop for himself a career in martial arts that he enjoyed, that would support himself and his future family, and allow him to share time with his future family.

Education was always in the forefront of Tony’s mind therefore after graduating high school he enrolled and finished San Jose City College (SJCC), before transferring to San Jose State University where he received a BS degree in Psychology.

Although working for many different jobs and attending school, Tony persevered by applying time management, dedication and hard work to meet his goals.

During Tony’s journey from Black Belt to Great Grand Master KJN within the martial arts organization as Co-Founder of West Coast Martial Arts and many other community organizations across the USA. He has helped many people providing day excursions and weeklong camping trips for children and young adults, cardio exercise classes for adult women at local churches and physical exercise classes for seasoned individuals. Tony donated to scholarship funds to the local Panhellenic organization. Tony also served on several City Civic boards in his community.

When I asked Tony if he believed in God, he always answered in a very strong voice, “Yes!”

When I think of Tony, the Bible verse Matthew 25:21 comes to mind. It is part of the “Parable of the Talent”:

21: "His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

Great Grandmaster Tony Thompson was one of the most loving, generous souls I've ever met. In spite of his busy schedule, I remember his collecting business clothing for the Women's Dress for Success Program. He was committed to helping women get a second chance and succeed. Once he asked me to tutor a young woman who wanted to go to law school. I had the pleasure several months ago to tell KJN Tony that she had become a successful attorney, thanks to his support and belief in her. He had a way of making each of feel like the most important person in the world.
I miss you, KJN Tony

GGM KJN Tony,

You have done in this world what most martial artists only dream of. The warmth in your smile, and passion in your voice echo across the world in the countless lives that you have touched. You have always had the warrior's spirit, and yet, I have heard you speak so many times on the power of love. You taught the WCWMA way, and my memories of you will live on forever.

Rest easy sir, and thank you forever.

There are no words deep enough to capture the essence of true friendship or of GGM. You have always been more than a friend, to my family, you were family. You carried a place in the Fernando home and in our hearts. You guided my sons with discipline and love, speaking to them as if they were your own.
I am grateful for every shared moment whether in the studio, filled with purpose, or outside of it, filled with laughter. Your presence was a gift, your counsel a blessing, and your friendship a treasure.
You are deeply missed. For now, rest well, GGM Tony. Until we meet again…. Sweet dreams.

Dear KJN Tony,

Thank you for the impact you had on me and my life. While I wish we had more time together so that I may further absorb your teachings, I am grateful for the time we did share together bonded by our mutual love of martial arts.

I will never forget the manner in which you treated me and my peers when you taught us. To sum it up in one word. Family, you taught the young me the value of having a village around me.

You made me understand the importance of holding myself to a high standard as an individual and a man.

You refused to let anyone get left behind or feel left out, even if they didn’t seem to quite fit in.

I have yet to meet someone as welcoming, warm, and demanding as you. Your kindness and openness of heart coupled with holding us to a high standard made everyone around you better, in all areas of our lives even beyond the mat.

You were the one that taught me that a real man should give hugs, treat others with love, and express love for those around you.

To this day the combination of your charisma, wisdom, and heart are unmatched.

Thank you for allowing one of your young students to realize the impact that I could have by teaching others and connecting with them.

You are and always will be a hallmark of success for me. I will continue to pass down the parts of your legacy that you passed down onto me, because that is how you deserve to be remembered.

Rest in peace sir, you will be missed.

Tony I will cherish a few great memories with you. When I was 9 all the kids in our Milpitas Sunnyhills neighborhood following you from the Weller Playground to the Park when you were our Summer/After School Rec leader. Another memory is when you tossed me and your Cousin Anthony out of a WEST COAST students birthday party by our necks. I blame your cousin Anthony because he didn't listen when you said "I DON'T WANT ANY TROUBLE! DONT MAKE ME REGRET LETTING YOU IN!" Also I told you your Sister Latonya Slapped me in in the head in Kindergarten and you said "Yea she will do that!" We would laugh about all these memories when we saw each other. While all the parents in the neighborhood were at work, you were taking care of all 50+ of us. You always gave the Best Honest advice to all pushing them up. A Leader when you were just a kid to all the other kids and later a Leader in life to many. My Brother and I will miss talking about Martial Arts, Milpitas Sunnyhills and All about Life with you. Rest in Peace my brother. Oscar & Fonso

KJN Tony,

You will truly be missed Sir. You were the heartbeat of the entire association and I am so grateful to have been apart of your legacy. I still remember to this day, as a young 3rd degree at the time, when you came to me and said, “You there…SBN…get moving to start judging! You better move now!” I moved with haste knowing it was out of love.

You have brought so much inspiration and a way of life to so many students and family. Rest peacefully Sir…

The Hendrickson Family would like to extend love and condolences to the entire Thompson Family.

KJN - There were so many great memories with you. I remember when Celeste was training for her black belt. I was so worried that she could hurt herself. But with your support and wisdom and training she got through it. Your contagious smile always took away the stress I endured from time to time as a single parent. Your advise was always taken to heart. With all the student under your wing you made a lot of life changing decisions for all. And with that I commend you! I must say both myself and Celeste took this very very hard. She is so distressed that she won't be able to fly out to be at your service. But she will be there in spirit and you will always be in our hearts. Rest in peace my dear friend. We will see each other again. We love you.

In Loving Memory of Tony Thompson — Uncle Tony,

From the moment I met Uncle Tony, he made me feel like I belonged. It was at a family reunion over at his house — the grill was sizzling, laughter was everywhere, and love was in the air. He welcomed me with open arms, showed Chris how to master the grill, and then, in true Uncle Tony fashion, walked right up to me and said, “Let me see your eyebrows… let me see your eyebrows.” That was him — personal, playful, and unforgettable.

I really want to commend you, Uncle Tony, on being a true superhuman Grandmaster. You weren’t just family — you were a father figure to my husband. You guided him, supported him, and gave him love, discipline, and structure. You showed him it’s okay to be himself, while also being a man of strength and integrity.

I have so many little gems of memories with you. Like the time you got me up at the crack of dawn — 3 a.m. roll call — so we could head to Monterey for my first deep sea fishing trip. Three hours in the car before the sun even thought about rising, out on the boat with all the guys. It was cold, early, and exhausting, but also one of the most fun and special days I’ve had.

Or the day we bought our first house. You were the first to come by, and in my excitement to run outside and hand you the phone, I rolled my ankle so badly it was the worst twist of my life — but I’d still do it again in a heartbeat for that moment.

You also welcomed my family into your home for Thanksgiving, and it was one of the most remarkable times my brother, his girlfriend, and my mom will ever experience. It’s something we still talk about to this day. The love, the laughter, and the feeling of being part of something bigger than ourselves — those family gatherings were pure magic. I hold on tightly to that memory, because it’s exactly how I want to carry on your legacy and show the family: this is how we represent you and Grandmommy.

You are the superhuman who has held this family together and kept us strong all these years. And we commend you for that. Chris is now the next generation of men in this family, and you have guided him well. Because of you, he can carry your legacy forward — to keep this family tight, true, and connected, just as we’ve always done.

Even my eight-year-old son has memories with you — ones he’ll carry in his heart forever. You have a way of leaving your mark on people, not just through your words or actions, but through the feeling you give them. You take a place in people’s hearts and never let go.

Thank you, Uncle Tony, for being there for Chris, for me, for my son, and for the entire family. Thank you for the love, the lessons, the laughter, and the barbecues. You didn’t just welcome me into the family… you made me feel like I had always been there.

My relationship with Kjn Tony in the early days consisted of seeing him Saturday Mornings on the Santa Clara University football field when we were in the final three months of training for a black belt test. We would be practicing some curriculum and he would yell in an intimidating voice “Run to the fence and back”. This would happen several times over the course of the morning.

During the last few years I was very fortunate to spend some time with him. We retired about the same time and a small group of us would play golf and have meals together weekly. It was always a highlight of my week. I visited him in mid June and asked for guidance on issues I was experiencing. He gave me two pieces of advice that I will always carry with me. Don’t procrastinate on your decision making and enjoy every day 🙂. That was the last discussion I had with him. I miss him dearly and he will always be in my heart.

GREAT GRANDMASTER TONY THOMPSON

I simply loved the man, there was not a time, I did not see the big smile on his face! Great Grandmaster Tony Thompson was truly a talented and humble man. In the 6 decades he was in the industry, he helped change the whole martial arts industry. He was dedicated to his family and to martial arts, but I recently stopped by his house and looked at all his achievements, and there were many, but I looked at many of the photos, and I was in many of them, the early years, meant so much to me, and the journey of transformation in the association, was a story that truly was amazing, the things we were learning in business, and in customer service, changed my life forever, thus changing the industry as well. I miss him, already, and I am thankful for his guidance and the love that he showed me throughout the years!

GGM KJN Tony B. Thompson

It's hard to find the words to express the role your Presence, Wisdom, Humility, Leadership and your Warrior Spirit played and It's impact on my life.
I remember the day I actually had my first interaction with you, it was intimidating. It was during my First Degree Test enroute to the infamous Alum Rock park. Conditioning was one of GGM Tony's contributions to the Black Belt Test. It was one of the most grueling physical challenges I had experienced during my 32 years on this planet. Those who remember Alum Rock, know what I'm talking about.
Over the years, our relationship morphed into a brotherly relationship. So much so, outside of Martial Arts when I would visit. I respectfully referred to you as, big bruh.
I'm going to miss those heartfelt moments, but will always hold them near and dear to my heart.

I met GGM KJN Tony more than 25 years ago, after my 2 kids and I joined the west coast organization. He was quite the imposing figure, and could be as harsh, as well as healing, as he was imposing. I realized quickly that he had an amazing ability to bring the best out of you, especially when you didn't realize you had "more in the tank".

There were so many things he taught us all, such as respect, true strength, humility, courage, self-control, discipline, and how to face your fears. Not many of us understood these things at the time, but that's what much of it all was about.

His impact on my kids and I is immeasurable. I believe both of my kids carry with them things learned through his leadership and from being a part of this organization. I will be forever grateful for all that he did for us, and hope that I carry on one tenth of the positive legacy of this great man.

I will miss his voice, his laugh, his advice, and his heart. But mostly, I will miss his mere presence. His amazing presence was truly something to behold.

Rest in Heaven, sir. Till we see each other again.

Respectfully

Great Grand Master Tony Thompson held many prestigious titles, but to me, he was more than a martial arts legend - he was like a father. He entered my life when I was 13 years old, and from that moment on, he was a guiding force. I was proud to be one of his first black belt’s students at his original school on Capital Avenue in Milpitas.
Over the years, GGM Tony taught me far more than self defense. He instilled in me the values of humility, honor, communication, generosity, bravery, and resilience. His lessons extended beyond the school - they shaped how I face life’s toughest challenges.

One of my most cherished memories of GGM Tony is his incredible generosity. Many of you will remember the unforgettable gatherings at his home in Gilroy. Those parties were filled with laughter, warmth and celebration. Sometimes they stretched into the early hours of the morning, ending with a sunrise workout on the beach, because with GGM Tony, celebration and discipline went hand in hand.

There were also quieter moments. I’d occasionally drop by his house if I happened to be in area, and he always welcomed me with open arms. I was fortunate to share many meals with him, and I’ll never forget the comfort of his famous gumbo - served with love and a side of wisdom.

“He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”

Our Beloved KJN Tony, our sadness in physically losing you can’t be helped. It is, however, comforted by knowing your legacy will be held for generations to come. You’ve lived 10 lives in one lifetime. No wasted breaths. Of all your lessons, this one for me is the most valuable. Thank you for welcoming me into your family when I had no martial arts home. Thank you for our calls, texts, and visits through the years. And thank you for always reminding me, “Life is Good”.

GGM Kjn Oppa Tony B. Thompson, You are Forever Loved & Remembered!

I met you 25 years ago when I joined the WCWMA Association! You quickly made me part of your family as your Lil Sis that you always took good care of! You really know how to make people feel valued.💖

Your brilliance, leadership, humility and powerful presence will be remembered by all!
While you could be so intimidating to most, your stern face turned into a smile at my 2nd degree when I said "bring it on Sir"! Then sometime later when I out-fished you guys in Ohio with my worms in my pocket I won your heart!! 🤪 You meant so much to my family and I, and my girls were so looking forward to seeing their Uncle Tony last year. Even though you had health issues you made sure we were well taken care of.

Knowing this is but a brief part of life, I look forward to seeing you again for an eternity! You've done so well, so now rest well my dearest Oppa!

Love you to Life!

GGM Tony has taken that final journey and I know he will be watching us from above . His leadership and contributions to our organization will always remind us what it means to a WCWMA member. I will remember his voice sharing his experience , stories and words of wisdom with us all.

On several occasions my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting him at his home on weekends and holidays at family gatherings.
We would laugh when we pulled into the driveway and he would walk out to greet us wearing a big straw hat holding a jar of lemonade ; and even a bigger smile.

He would say “(I’m at home now”). We would laugh and shoot pool for hours (he always won). I felt so comfortable being around him.

I enjoyed our time together during the tournament brakes when we would go out to lunch with KjnRick and myself. More laughs and story telling.
He always referred to me as little brother.
Coming from a big family; he always had room for everyone.

This is only one of many gifts I later found out about. His spirit will remain in my heart forever.

Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3, Verses 1 - 8:

1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Rest in Peace Great Grand Master KJN Tony. You meant the world to so many people and at the drop of a hat would stop the world to help someone or calm them down. You exemplified what it meant to be a martial artist with good character. I wish I was able to spend more time with you as I got to higher belt ranks and experience more of the hugs you were known for. Your teachings and love for people and love for marital arts will carry on in the way I teach and train my students, and how I interact with people. Your legacy will always live on, may you rest in peace knowing you made a profound impact on every life you touched.

I know, I already contributed but there was just so much.
For those of you who don’t know me I was a world class runner before I joined West Coast. Anyway, when I was doing the association training at Willow Glen HS they made us run two miles around the track before we could leave. I finished so far ahead that KJN Tony was going to kick me out and send me home. I called KJN Gary over because he knew my history and had even timed me. Anyway, KJN Tony just grunted and said “See you next time.”

When I was in mastery training he kept asking me “Where the hell is KJN Gary? Why isn’t he here?” I finally said “I don’t know where he is. Why don’t you just call him and ask him yourself?” He just glared at me and said “The next time you see him I want you to tell him to get his ass down here!” Those were his exact words.

GGM Tony B. Thompson certainly impacted me as a martial artist, mother and mentor. His attention to details and methods of correction were always empowering. I trained to execute what he wanted and try to impart the same to students I now teach. KJN Tony helped me let go of some helicopter parenting traits when he told me to, “Let the boy breathe!” when he saw that my intentions were being negatively received by my son and I needed to let him be and focus on my own form/technique😏 Once I was a BKJN, GGM and I talked about our shared studies in Psychology and how to utilize when training, teaching, showing value, effective leadership and living a life worthy of legacy❣️🫶🏽🥰❤️‍🩹KJN always greeted with a shining smile, a subtle sarcastic joke and first aid when needed😜- he took the time to wrap or bandage my sprained hand, foot- whatever it was throughout the years🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽He was always taking care of folks some how and in some way- physically, mentally, spiritually… Let your Indomitable Spirit shine down from the stars now, Sir🫡Rest easy in the peace of paradise 🌈☯️✨You are loved😊 Send us signs🙏🏽Eternal light grant unto you and may perpetual light shine upon you😇

I met Great Grand Master when I was a child, he was the sweetest man I’ve ever met. Those years where we’d train martial arts together then eat and play in the creek behind his house are memories I’ll always remember! I’ll always remember Great Grand Master for the knowledge/stories he gave to my Father and I. He will always play a vital role in my early years of martial arts and has helped shape me into the man I’ve become today!

KJN, the bond we had was amazing. You went from my Instructor, to my boss, to a mentor, to a friend, to my second Dad. My life is filled with memories we shared together. The Safeway bag, gumbo nights, our ski trip, you and your fluorescent jalapeños of fire, to the infamous beach day. You were there to listen when I needed and were there to help me navigate times of distress. I can only hope to do for others what you did for me. To help carry your legacy on to the next generation of students and families. I love you sir.

When your children marry, two families become intertwined, fostering love and friendships due to their shared love for your children. You share time, holidays, tears, laughter, and if fortunate, grandchildren together. From our initial conversation to our last, Tony and I consistently agreed that our primary desire was for our children, Adonis and Tanika, and granddaughters Raelyn and Anaiya, to be happy. Tony's steadfast dedication to Tanika was evident in his words, 'whatever Tanika wants, Tanika gets.' I appreciated the time he invested in guiding my son through life's challenges, including school, fatherhood, work, and marriage. As a devoted father in law and mentor, Tony significantly impacted my son's life, for which I am eternally grateful. Thank you. Over the past 15 years I grew to love Tony and Dalani loved him as her Papa. My daughter-in-law, son, and grandchildren were privileged to call him Dad and Papa, and it was an honor to call Tony my friend and my family.
Rest in peace, Great Grand Master KJN Tony; you will be deeply missed🙏🏼💔

I met KJN Tony for the first time, while I was competing in my first ever karate tournament. It was in the men's locker room at San Jose City College. I was training in a Kung fu style Sa Chan Ma. He was mentally preparing for the Men's Black Belt Heavy weight divisiveness, which he would go on to win the grand championship title. I forget what he said to me at the time, but I remember his intense focus a d concentration that would eventually win the match. I remember being so moved and impressed by his skill and the skill of his students, that would later become my best friends and martial arts family til this very day. I made up my up my mind that I wanted him to be my new instructor. He would later become a big brother and a mentor as to how to live life as a martial artist. I will miss his friendship, his laugh, and loving way. He was loved by many and will be truly missed. "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" I will see you again GGM Tony. With loving memories your student and friend, Marc D Williams

In Loving Memory of Tony Thompson

Tony Thompson was a brilliant, beautiful soul and an all-around good man. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had him in my life and to have called him a dear friend.

What I will always remember about Tony is his radiant smile, his big heart, his warm humor, and those unforgettable facial expressions that could light up a room. He genuinely loved life, his family, and his friends—and he never hesitated to let the people around him know just how much they were loved.

You could talk to Tony about anything because he was a wonderful listener, someone who truly cared about what you had to say. He was endlessly proud of his daughter and his granddaughters, and his love for them shone in everything he did.

Tony will be deeply missed. The world lost a good man and a bright soul when he passed, and my heartfelt condolences go out to his entire family, partners, and friends. May his kindness, laughter, and love continue to ripple through the lives he touched.

I’m so sorry. He really was a rock for all of us. He was always there to listen, offer thoughtful advice, or just make you smile. His energy lit up every room, Things won’t be the same without him. He meant so much to so many.

I remember at the 2016 test when we were waiting at Golden Gate Bridge vista point. It was dark, very cold, and we were all in T-shirt’s and shorts. It was so cold that I was as uncontrollably shivering when suddenly KJN Tony came up behind me and gave me the biggest bear hug, and asked me, “How’s my Willow Glen angel doing?” It meant the world to me.

KJN Tony,
It’s so strange to think about you being gone. You always seemed so permanent, like you held your place in the world like a mountain. Unmoving and even when you couldn’t see it, you knew it was there. You had a kindness and a confidence that came through in all you did. You had an extraordinary ability to make people feel seen when you spoke with them, like they were all that was important in that moment.
Thank you for all the memories and experiences, the encouragement and motivating critiques. You have touched thousands and thousands of lives, including mine and I know your name and memory will continue on for many, many years to come.
I love you and I will miss you.

I have so many stories about him that i don’t know where to start. When I showed up for Mastery Testing I knew we’d be gone for several days and I didn’t want to leave my car in the Campbell lot. I had my mother drop me off, and she came in for a couple minutes. KJN Tony was at the front desk, do I called him over to introduce him to my mom. He immediately grabbed her in one of his bear hugs and said to her, “Welcome to the family!” How can you not love someone who treats your mother like that? What a great guy!

GGM Tony,
That smile. Your support. The big hugs. You always saw me in the crowd and I'd receive a great hug from you! I cherish those memories.
When I tested for 3rd degree, I did a fan form with a mask and full costume. My form represented my brother's life of 12 years. Birth to death. You came over to me when I finished, I was crying behind my mask. You touched my shoulder and gave me a hug. You said, "your brother is so proud of you." That stuck with me. You will be remembered as a truly wonderful and kind man. Thank you for everything you have done, not just for the martial arts but for the teachings of the life lessons. Your impact is felt. I will miss you. May the memories of you bring joy and peace to your family and friends.
Rest in eternal peace.

I have so many cherished memories with this amazing man, but two spring to mind. Six weeks before my 2nd degree test, I tore my hamstring. I tried to keep training in spite of the pain and one night I was at the Santa Clara school. KJN Tony was yelling at me because my kicks were definitely substandard--I could barely kick. I was trying my hardest to please him and keep from crying. At the end of the class, we were doing pushups and I suddenly saw his face inches from mine on the ground. He smiled and said, "Your nails look really pretty." I burst out laughing--and then cried all the way home.

The second is after my son Tristan tested for BKJN. We went to KJN Tony's house on Sunday and he pointed out a print on his wall that had several prominent African-Americans on it. He asked Tristan if he could identify them and was disappointed when he couldn't get past Martin Luther King. KJN Tony looked at me sternly and said, "Cindy, you have a Black son. Teach him his history." I was chagrined and blessed that he cared enough about my son to scold me.

KJN, your love, compassion, wisdom, and kindness blessed me and my family for 30 years. I will miss exchanging our birthday phone calls the last week of September and I look forward to the day I see your beaming smile in Heaven. Thank you for being a shining light in my life. I miss you, sir.

To my soul brother, GGM Tony Thompson,

From the moment we stepped into GGM Dan Choi’s Tae Kwon Do class and met, at San Jose State University, Destiny brought us together. Two young warriors from humble and underprivileged beginnings, who would’ve thought we’d walk side by side for 57 years,
bound by purpose and love?

Through our sweat, blood, tears, and laughter, we trained, we taught, and we traveled the world with our West Coast Demo Team. When Hollywood called on Ernie Jr. and our team for television and movie projects, it was your unwavering spirit, your willingness to give your all and do whatever it took, that made it possible.

We built our WCWMA Association not just as an organization, but as a path of love, service, and transformation. You were the Yin to my Yang, together, we made the impossible possible. Together, we were honored as one, receiving Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement awards from the martial arts world.

Thank you, my brother, for your loyalty, your bravery, heart and love of family. You didn’t just speak of mastery, you lived it. You smiled through storms and gave with open arms.

Now your spirit has returned to the great circle of life, at peace, free, uniting with your ancestors, and enjoying eternal fishing. Your legacy lives on in me, in Tanika, your beautiful grandchildren, the Thompson family, all your friends around the world and every warrior of our WCWMA Association tribe. I know your BIG, beautiful smile is glowing down on all of us!

“Heaven is Good!” I love you Bro for ETERNITY!
Our WCWMA Saga Continues…….
POM – Pursuit of Mastery!
POM – Peace of Mind!
With Infinite Love and Honor, Your Bro!

Some people grow up without a father. I was blessed to have the one I chose.

KJN Tony Thompson wasn’t just my martial arts instructor—he was my second father. Not by blood, but by heart, by presence, and by the way he showed up for me when I needed it most.

Every time I called him, he’d answer with the same line:
“How’s my eldest son doing?”

That’s who he was to me. Not just a mentor. Not just a coach. But the man who helped raise me. The one who saw something in me before I ever did. The one who shaped how I teach, how I lead, and how I live.

He was a world-class fighter, a visionary promoter, and a martial arts pioneer. But it was his steady, consistent belief in people—especially the underdogs—that changed lives. It certainly changed mine.

He passed on July 24th, during the weekend of our Black Belt Test. When I got the call, it hit hard—but GGM Ernie Reyes reminded me of something important:

He said, “The best way we can honor KJN Tony is by pouring ourselves into the students—by keeping the focus on the candidates and their families. That’s what Tony would have wanted.”

So that’s what we did.

We turned that weekend into a celebration—not of loss, but of legacy. Every moment of that test became a living tribute. Every kick, every struggle, every triumph—it carried his spirit forward.

And I believe it was no accident that he passed during that weekend.
That test was his final lesson to us.

His legacy lives in every student who finds strength they didn’t know they had. In every instructor he mentored. In the generations he lifted, and the values he passed down.

I miss him deeply. But his voice is still in my head. His example is still in my heart. And his impact is still written all over the work we do.

Thank you, sir. I love you. I’ll carry your legacy with honor for the rest of my life.
