Obituary

Thomas Randall Bynum, known as Randy, born April 15, 1956, passed away at home on October 30, 2026. Randy grew up in Dothan, AL, and spent much of his childhood with his grandmother, Inez Bynum, in Cedar Springs, GA.

After graduating Dothan High School in 1975, Randy became a journeyman electrician with the IBEW Local 443 for over 45 years. There, he served on the executive board for many years. His work sent him across the country and in the last 13 years of his career, he served as job steward at Farley Nuclear Plant.

Randy will be remembered for his big, social personality. He loved eating out, talking on the phone, and keeping up with all his family and friends, many of whom were apprentices he’d mentored and trained. He had a dynamic speaking voice, and was always telling stories and jokes.

In addition to being a devoted conversationalist, he was passionate about making connections between people and things. He always had an eye out for how items could be repurposed, fixed, or reused, and was over the moon when he was able to connect someone with something they needed.

Randy is survived by his wife, Valerie, brother, Greg, daughter, Ginger, and son Brent (wife, Elizabeth). He is preceded in death by his parents, Hal Randall Bynum and Mildred Ramirez Bynum.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, November 5th from 4-7pm, with a service starting at 5pm, at Celebrations at Jones Crossing, 5918 Fortner St, Dothan, AL. All are welcome to gather and share their stories.

From the moment Randy started dating Val, he treated me like a little sister. It didn’t take long for him to become a true cornerstone of our family. Randy was the kind of person who always volunteered to say grace—someone who instinctively wanted to bring people together, lift them up, and encourage them. He had a gift for making people laugh. When he was around, burdens felt lighter. We’d settle in and listen to his wild stories and adventures—some of them liberally embellished—but the entertainment value was always off the charts.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Randy’s sudden passing. Growing up with Brent, I was almost always hanging out at his parents house, so I basically grew up with his family. Randy, and Mrs. Valerie, were always so welcoming and fun to be around. Randy was always so fun to be around. Just a fantastic father and I know that everyone who knew him was thankful to have known him.
