Obituary

D orothy Teresa Black Masters passed away in Allen, TX on February 3, 2025. Born in Bonita, LA on November 19, 1937, Mrs. Masters graduated from Bastrop High School and was a long-time resident of Bossier City, LA. There she was a faithful member of Airline Baptist Church, proudly serving in many capacities throughout her membership years. Teresa spent many of her younger years in central Florida, where she began her family and was employed by the Orlando Sentinel newspaper while her husband Alden worked in the space program. Many of her fondest memories were from those young family years in her cherished “old” Florida. After relocating back to Louisiana in 1974 Teresa was a long-time employee of the Bossier Parish School Board, retiring in 1997. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with friends and family, trying new things, and serving the church.

Teresa is preceded in death by her parents Hurston Black and Orene Ingram, and her beloved husband of 42 years, Alden Masters. She is survived by her son Scott Masters and daughter-in-law Jody Masters of Allen, TX, daughter Alesa Foster and son-in-law Fred Foster of Bossier City, LA, and grandchildren Julie Foster of Bossier City, LA, and Shelby Masters of Allen, TX.

The family would like to thank the staff of both Goldstar Hospice and Grace Home Health for their care and concern during this time. The family will be holding a private memorial service for Teresa, but donations are welcome in Teresa’s honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital of Memphis, TN (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105), or www.stjude.org/donate, or to Samaritan's Purse via www.samaritanspurse.org/donate.

The Carter Family is so saddened to hear of the passing of the sweetest neighbor we’ve ever had. We were friends/neighbors for almost 20 years! Ms. Teresa was the kind of person everyone should strive to be. Always caring and wanting to give back to this world! What a life full of love! We send our prayers to the remaining family and will look to the sky and wink each time we think of her. Melrose Avenue hasn’t been the same and never will! 💔💔💔

Teresa Masters is such a sweet lady and very calm but strong in what she wants. I met her at the building ParkView Allen on a particular day and she told me to come because she wanted to sign up with my company, funny enough I came at the time she was going to the dining to eat lunch, and she said to me I’m not going to listen to you until I eat then we can talk because I love my food. Both of us laughed about it and ever since then she was connected with me. ‘I miss her but the Lord God Almighty is taking good care of her.’ “Farewell Ms. Teresa”

My most cherished memories of Teresa, aka Grammie, are the greatest examples of how to live. She loved God, her family and her friends. I am blessed that my family moved in across the street from the Masters many years ago.
Alesa, Scott and your families, I am so sorry your loss. Your mom had the sweetest smile and a kind word for everyone. She greeted each day with joy. I hope you are comforted by memories and the outpouring of love from everyone that knew your momma.
Love, Lisa
