To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.

Obituary

Ted Kowalczyk didn’t simply enter a room — he filled it. With a laugh that could disarm a stranger in seconds, a song lyric always ready on his lips, and a dance move that appeared without warning and disappeared just as fast, Ted had a way of making every moment feel like something worth remembering. He was, in every sense of the word, larger than life.

Born on June 26, 1954, to Stefan and Bernice, Ted carried that spirit with him through 71 remarkable years — as an artist, a chef, a partner, a friend, and above all, a father. He passed away on April 7, 2026, leaving behind a silence that those who loved him will feel for a very long time.

For 24 years, Ted shared his life with the love of his life, Mary. Their bond was one of deep tenderness and mutual devotion, and they were married in July 2025 — a celebration of a love that had already proven itself through every season. Mary, gave him so much joy.

Ted led a life of adventure,  including  sharing the open road with his son Anthony. Those miles hold a lifetime of memories.  Conversations that mattered, laughter that echoed, and the kind of quiet moments between a father and son that don’t need words to be understood. Ted was more than a father. He was a mentor, a compass, and a constant source of inspiration. The creativity, resilience, and purpose he instilled in Anthony weren’t lessons from a textbook — they were lived, day after day, in the way Ted himself showed up for the world.

For more than 35 years, Ted poured himself into his craft as an award-winning creative artist. He brought the same devotion to the culinary world, working over a decade as a chef and caterer — a journey that took him as far as the kitchens of Tuscany, Italy. Whether through a painting or a perfectly prepared meal, Ted had a rare and beautiful talent: he knew how to bring people together. He knew how to make you feel at home.

A heartfelt thank you to the Hosick and Weber families whose support and generosity brought him immeasurable comfort.

A special note of love to his niece Kate — whose sharp wit was more than a match for Ted’s own, and whose presence in his life during his final chapter brought him so many smiles. You made his days brighter.

Ted is survived by his beloved wife Mary, son Anthony (Kathryn); his brother Richard (Bette); his nephew Kevin (Flora); and his cherished lifelong friends/family and care givers Diane, Phil, Vince, and Lee Ann — people who knew him well and loved him deeply.

Ted Kowalczyk leaves behind a legacy not written in any single place, but felt in the lives of everyone he touched.
