The way is up
Along the road
The air is growing thin
Too many friends who tried
Were blown off this mountain by the wind

Meet on the ledge
We're gonna meet on the ledge
When my time is up
I'm gonna see all my friends

Obituary

My dad, Steve Mills, sadly passed away morning of 7th October after a period of time in and out of hospital.

His last moments were peaceful and we spent time listening to music he loved and looking at photos of his grandchildren.

Rest in peace dad, you are so loved and will be greatly missed 💚

Playlist

So many people have spoken of their relationship with Steve being heavily linked to music
To that end I am collating a Spotify playlist of songs that remind us of Steve.
Songs that he loved or songs that make us think of him:

So many happy memories of my brother, here are a few....
Taking me to my first concerts - ELO and Altered Images.
Helping me learn to drive including my parallel parking!
Telling mother off for letting me go - all made up with far too much makeup and no doubt in a skirt that would be called a "belt".
Many lovely family holidays as children and lots of walks on Chorleywood common.

Stephen we will all miss you but the memories we have of you will always be with us.

Miss you loads

It turns out that I have known Steve for 50 years. He, and later Jill and Harriet, have been a huge part of our lives. So many memories. Lots of gigs and festivals, exhibitions and plays, films and even shared holidays. Singing along to familiar and newly learned songs.
But for me, there are two special memories, both to do with dancing.
Steve taking part with enthusiasm in an evening of Greek dance in a bar in Lindos, even the 'men's dance', which involved picking up a full shot glass from the floor without using hands. And learning a Charleston routine with him at a dance workshop at a folk festival in Yorkshire.
Dance on. I miss you.

I have many fond memories of the time Steve and I spent together when I was a student at Royal Holloway College in the late 1970's and early 80's. I was very sad to hear of his passing and send my sincere condolences to all the family.

I first met Steve when I was a small child and he was at school with my sister. One way or another we kept in touch over the years. I have lovely memories of Steve’s patience with a small girl hanging around and being in the way! I remember him dancing with me to “Young Girl”. A lovely, kind and generous man.

Goodbye Steve I will miss you. So many memories I could share but here are two. 1979 Steve took me to Slough Town Hall to see Fairport Convention in their “farewell” tour. A great evening. Stephen loved musicals especially Singin’ in the Rain. I can still hear him singing “If Moses supposes his roses are roses, the Moses supposes erroneously” RIP

Steve was not my friend but my friend’s dad and he was so funny and kind. He was so supportive when we were children and later teenagers and young adults. I will never forget him being at every dance show helping out. RIP Steve, you will be missed.

I'm not someone who was close to Steve. I'm not a close friend. I began work as a junior person in Heinz in 1996 and met Steve on my first day in Hayes Park. He was patient, kind, welcoming, funny, intelligent, warm and eloquent. Thanks to Steve, my first project was a success. Thanks to Steve, I learned how to relate to our business users, our colleagues and at times, put two fingers up to the bosses. Steve and John Herbert taught me that. Thanks so much Steve in making a huge impression on a young, inexperienced guy.

The pictures of you as a grandfather are incredible and you can see the love and adulation shining.

You're going to be missed a lot Steve. A real gem of a man.

My dad absolutely loved being a Grandpa. I will never forget the look on his face the first time he held Frankie in his arms. So in awe but also absolutely terrified not to drop her.

I've shared some photos of his times with Frankie. He loved spending time with her. Clambering through soft plays and playgrounds. Taking her swimming. Reading her stories.

I will remember his delighted expression as he sat and watched her playing.

So gentle, so patient, so loving.
