In honour of Sonja's life and endless love and caring
Obituary
Sonja Watson, Incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on 7th December 2024, at the age of 61. Born on 31st August 1963 in Middleton, Manchester, Sonja's life was a remarkable journey filled with love, dedication, and a deep commitment to her family and caring.
Sonja shared a beautiful and loving relationship with her husband, Paul Watson. Their partnership, filled with mutual respect and admiration, stood as a testament to true companionship. Together, they nurtured a family and instilled in their children values of kindness, resilience, and integrity.
As a devoted mother, Sonja's greatest pride was her five children, who were the centre of her universe. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to raising them, offering unwavering support and guidance through every triumph and challenge. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she played a significant role in the lives of her grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy in her later years.
Sonja had a profound influence on all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and generosity. She was a woman of quiet strength and endless patience, someone whom friends and family alike turned to for wisdom and comfort. Her gentle smile and kind-hearted nature touched the lives of many, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Throughout her 61 years, Sonja embraced life's adventures with grace and humor, demonstrating resilience in the face of challenges. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and spending time with loved ones, always savoring the moments that filled her heart with happiness.
Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, Sonja leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew her. She will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her husband Paul, her children Stephen, Ang, Chris, Jake and Molly, her grandchildren Nola, Tate, Alice and Jaxson and all those fortunate enough to have been touched by her extraordinary spirit.
In remembrance of Sonja a private memorial service will be held and a huge Party will take place to celebrate the enormous presence that was Sonja. There will be fun, laughter, great stories, singing and plenty of colour (no black) . The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Cancer Research, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others.
As we bid farewell to a truly remarkable woman, we hold onto the precious memories and the profound impact she made on our lives. Sonja Watson will forever be remembered with love and gratitude.

It was clear what a bubbly, energetic live wire you were, always up for having fun. You were a generous host, & had us dressing up and playing games at your home.
Then you met Paul, and it was so clear just how much you loved one another, and how much you were meant to be together. We shared many outings together, & lots of holidays, many at your beautiful home in Calpe.
You laughed so much, & we did too. There are just so many happy memories, but a couple come to mind. Firstly, one camping trip the four of us were on, sitting in the gazebo on the side of our tent, enjoying the music, the soft lights and the drinks, when Ian’s back chair legs sank in the mud, & he went backwards and out of the gazebo. There he was, still sitting on the chair, his right arm raised holding his glass of vodka up high. Sonja creased up, & so did we all!
Secondly was on a foreign holiday when Sonja suggested to Ian that they swapped clothes, & into the room comes Sonja in Ian’s shirt, & Ian In Sonja’s white dress. The image is still on our minds, we all laughed hysterically! This just re-enforces what a fantastic sport you were, always out to have a laugh
Sonja, you have always looked out for, & supported others in their time of need, always putting yourself last, always caring for everyone else. You were a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother & grandmother, & an amazing friend who I already miss dreadfully. You have left an enormous home in our lives,
Rest up now beautiful friend. Thank you for being part of all our lives. We will never forget you.
With our love
Ian & Julia
You came into our lives through our friendship with the Nunns then the Staggs and the Browns when we were invited to one of your parties in West Street and we were somewhat nervous of the games (especially Richard)! We loved your energy and enthusiasm for life and everyone in it, and we soon began to enjoy fabulous holidays with you and Paul both at your beautiful Calpe house and various other locations. There was always some madcap scheme to make us all laugh and we will forever miss your infectious laugh and smile. You were always so kind and generous to those you met in all walks of your life. We are heartbroken for your family and ourselves and will never forget you. Love and hugs forever.

Many happy holidays have been spent together as a group and one of our best memories is Paul and Sonja recreating Dirty Dancing ‘The Time of My Life’ in their pool in Calpe which was Sonja’s wish as it was her birthday that evening so a few drinks had been consumed! This was recreated again two years ago in Majorca - still had the same impression and again after a few drinks!
She was so kind and generous and helped so many people including myself back in 2010 for which I will always be grateful for as I’m sure there are so many other people who would also like to thank her.
Recently as usual she bought a smile to our faces when she tried on her latest wig to which she said ‘what do you think - don’t you think I look like Jenny from Gogglebox!’
Sonja you were truly a very special person. A wonderful wife, mum, grandma and friend.
We will miss you very much you crazy lady.
Fly high Sonja just like in Calpe! RIP.
Love Alan & Barbara xx
As our sons got to know each other so did we becoming great friends socialising over the years and sharing many fantastic holidays together some being at S & Ps beautiful home in Calpe. We'd go to the supermarket load up with plenty of food & wine and create a wall of empty bottles to admire. Many happy funny evenings were spent on their terrace being silly and requesting music from Paul via Spotify. Once we came back from an evening in Benidorm & jumped fully clothed into the swimming pool, mental happy times indeed. There are too many memories to mention them all here but that was just one.
Soggs was such a special person, kind caring loving loyal protective energetic, a wonderful Wife, Mother, Granny, friend & much much more, beautiful inside & out. She lived life to the max & that's the way it should be.
We shared a nutty sense of humour & I already miss not being able to share something silly I've seen on social media with her as I know she would see the funny side as I did.
Our dearest Soggs we're both heartbroken for your wonderful family & ourselves that you are no longer here with us. Rest in peace beautiful, forever in our hearts all our love K & M xxxx

Love you soggs
