Daddy Daddy, as I called you.
My beloved father-in-law, Akukalia Niger. Today, I write with a grateful heart. You were a remarkable man of faith, integrity, and strong moral values. You loved God and believed in living a life guided by honesty, respect, dignity, and responsibility. Your wisdom, principles, and kindness touched our lives and that of those around you, and your legacy will continue through us, your family; and everyone who had the privilege of knowing you.

I am especially grateful that you had the opportunity to visit Thailand, where we shared beautiful moments and memories together. I am glad that you were able to experience a different part of the world, have fun, laugh, and enjoy precious time with us. I shared your video quest of relocating to Thailand to become a pilot with my Instagram family. They were super amazed and waiting for that day, which never came sadly. They all fare thee well. Those memories are now treasures that I will hold close to my heart and remember with gratitude.

Though we mourn your passing, we celebrate the life you lived and the values you left behind. Your physical presence may be gone, but your lessons, memories, faith, and love will remain with us. Dad, thank you for the memories, the wisdom, and the time we shared. May God receive you into His eternal rest, comfort us, and grant you perfect peace. You will be deeply missed, Daddy, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.
Jee Nke oma Ezi nna dim.

A Biography of Late Sir Gibson Chukwunweike Okafor (AKUKALIA Niger)

Sir Gibson Chukwunweike Okafor was born on June 17, 1930, into the family of late Catechist Chukwujekwu Nweke Okafor of AZUKWELLE, EZINKWELLE village in NKWELLE EZUNAKA and Mrs. Akuobi Nnaife of Akpukwu village in Ifite Nkwelle Ezunaka all in Oyi Local Government Area of ANAMBRA State.

His father was a devoted missionary who served in the riverine areas along the Niger, particularly in Umuleri, Aguleri Otu, Umuze Anam, and several other communities. In those regions, water covered the land so extensively that canoe boats were the primary means of transportation, often used right from their doorsteps to wherever they needed to go. He was blessed with two sons and three daughters, though one son later passed away, leaving Gibson as the only surviving male child in the family. Throughout their missionary journeys, he and his wife carried Gibson and his siblings along to the various mission stations.

Growing up within the church compound, Gibson’s early life was deeply rooted in faith, discipline, and service. His father, Catechist Joseph, was a distinguished scholar of his time, widely respected for his powerful and fearless writings. These works earned him the name Okafor Ndeni, a title that reflected his uncompromising stance against anyone who threatened the peace of the community. In Nkwelle Ezunaka, he was greatly feared, for the name implied that he would not hesitate to call upon the government to deal firmly with unscrupulous individuals (Imee Odenie gi).

For his education, Gibson was sent by his father to Etukokwu Grammar School in Onitsha, Anambra State. After completing his secondary studies, he moved to Lagos, where he worked with the John Holt Company and interacted with colleagues from around the world. His career was soon interrupted by the outbreak of the Nigerian Civil War, which compelled him to return home. As the only surviving son, he remained with his father in their hometown of Nkwelle Ezunaka, where he devoted himself to farming. His dedication and skill earned him recognition as one of the leading farmers in the area, producing some of the largest yams and other food crops. Gibson was known in his youth as a hardworking, handsome, and energetic man. His father, seeing these qualities, offered him a guiding piece of wisdom: “Mgbada chekwaba onwe ya, o buru agulagu”—meaning, “If the antelope protects itself, it will never fall prey to the lion.” This counsel became a moral compass for Gibson, instilling discipline and keeping him steadfast in obedience to his father’s guidance.

He also passed on this golden piece of advice to all of us, his children, adding: “Onye rapukwa Jesus je gwoo ogwu, ife ofulu, owelu ”—which means, “If any of you turn away from Jesus and resort to charms, you will face the consequences.” By God’s grace, we all heeded his words and remained obedient to his guidance.

Following the war, Gibson sold his harvest and married his beloved wife, Lady Elizabeth Nkiru Odelugo of Amawa Village, Ogbunike, in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State. His parents passed away in 1963, and a few years later, Sir Gibson and Lady Elizabeth welcomed their first son, Ikechukwu Joseph Okafor. Seeking new opportunities to support his young family, Gibson became a clerk in the Diocese on the Niger and was posted to St. James Anglican Church, Uga. He served faithfully there for three years before being transferred to St. James Anglican Church, Agulu, where his second son, Chukwudi Christian Okafor, was born. During this period, Gibson pursued further studies and distinguished himself academically, excelling in several examinations, including the prestigious London Cambridge and RSA exams, both of which he passed with distinction.

Gibson’s journey of service continued when he was transferred to Christ Church, Onitsha. There, his marriage to Lady Elizabeth was blessed with six additional children: Emmanuel, Godwin, Gibson, Okechukwu, Augustine, and Ifeoma—five boys and one girl. Sadly, their son Emmanuel later passed away, leaving them with six sons and one daughter, all to the glory of God.

Sir Gibson also served faithfully as a licensed lay reader in the Diocese on the Niger. By the grace of God, his dedication and diligence earned him steady promotion—first as Head of Clerks in the Diocese, and later as Chief Auditor, a position he held with distinction until his retirement in 2011. His work was marked by integrity and thoroughness; many church workers and parishes he audited can testify to his sincere and meticulous bookkeeping examinations. He was known for his uncompromising scrutiny, often requiring those guilty of financial mismanagement to make restitution before his audit reports were submitted. In all, Sir Gibson rendered devoted service to the Diocese for an impressive forty years, to the glory of God.

Beyond his administrative duties, Gibson’s love for music shone brightly. He was the choirmaster and organist at Christ Church Onitsha for many years, guiding the choir to numerous competitions and victories. His gift for composition enriched the church’s worship. Among his works, were the beloved Father’s Sunday songs “Nna bu Ide” and “Nna jisike nolu” which became popular during Father's Sunday.

Sir Gibson was also skilled as a bookbinder, a craft he pursued diligently to keep himself engaged beyond his primary work responsibilities.
In 2021, great joy and jubilation was added to his life as Sir Gibson was knighted by His Grace, the most Rev. Isaac Nwaobia of Diocese of Isiala Ngwa South considering his faithful and fulfilled service to God and humanity.

Popularly known as Akukalia Niger, he was celebrated for his robust health, boundless energy, remarkable skill, and humility, as well as for his unwavering discipline.

The legacy of family morning prayers that Sir Gibson established has remained a firm foundation for all of us, shaping our lives and homes to this day. Together with our sweet mother, Lady Elizabeth Nkeiru Okafor (Slender Beauty), he faithfully led us to Jesus Christ. It is no surprise, therefore, that all of us, their children, are rooted in the Lord, each blessed with unique skills and talents, using them to do exploits for His glory.

Even at the age of 96, Sir Gibson remained remarkably strong and full of vitality. We fondly nicknamed him Kpokirikpo because of his famously firm handshake—once he clasped your hand, you would struggle to free it from his tight, powerful grip, all in good humor and for the fun of it.

Three days before his passing, Sir Gibson began asking his wife repeatedly for the date of each day. Though she answered faithfully, she grew concerned about his persistent inquiries. When she finally asked why he was so intent on knowing, he gently replied that he simply wanted to be sure of the date.

On Monday, 20th April 2026, after taking his breakfast, Sir Gibson walked around his compound but soon felt weak. His twin grandchildren quickly raised the alarm, and he was assisted to his sitting room. There, he asked his second son, Evangelist Chukwudi, to pray for him. As the prayer was offered, he responded with a heartfelt “Amen” and, in that sacred moment, went home to God his Maker.

Today, we celebrate an icon—an encyclopedia of wisdom, a great disciplinarian, a gallant soldier of Christ, a gifted musician, a preacher of the gospel, an auditor par excellence, a hero, and a rare gem. He is the proud father of two distinguished Archdeacons, one pastor and evangelist, one accomplished musician, two talented organists, and a devoted midwife instructor married to Ariwa King—all to the glory of God.

Continue to rest peacefully in the bosom of your God. We look forward with faith to that glorious morning when we shall meet again in heaven.

We love you deeply, our beloved Daddy, and by God’s grace we promise never to disappoint you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Adieu, AKUKALIA Niger,
Adieu, Papa IK,
Adieu, thou great son of Okafor Ndeni

This song remains deeply engraved in my heart even now, and I dedicate it to a well‑deserved saint triumphant.

*A Daughter-In-Law’s Tribute to Sir Gibson Chukwunweike Okafor*
(1930– 2026)

Daddy Father Gibson,

I came into your family as your first daughter-in-law, but you never treated me as an outsider. From the very first day, you called me “my daughter” and meant it. In that one act, you gave me a place, a sense of belonging, and a father’s love I will cherish forever.

You were a man of quiet strength and deep honor. I watched how you carried your family with dignity, how you led with wisdom and not with noise, and how your word was always your bond. Your home was full of peace because you were a man of peace. Your discipline was rooted in love, and your corrections were always meant to lift us higher.

Thank you for the way you welcomed me, for the prayers you said over me and my husband, your first son, and for the advice you gave without making me feel small. Thank you for the laughter we shared at family gatherings, for the meals, and for the way your eyes would light up when your grandchildren ran to you. You showed me what it means to be a father, a husband, and a man of God.

Daddy, your absence leaves a space no one else can fill. The house feels quieter, the family table feels emptier. But I am consoled knowing you lived a life that pleased God and man. You finished well, and you left behind a legacy of love, integrity, and unity that we will carry forward.

Rest well, my father. I will honor your memory by loving your son, my lovely husband, by keeping this family together, and by living in the values you taught us.

Until we meet again in God’s presence, sleep in perfect peace.

*To My Great Father, My Hero*

The big Daddy, Akukalia Niger,

Today I stand here as your first son, and my heart is both heavy and proud. Heavy, because you are no longer here with us in body. Proud, because the man you were will never leave us.

You were great not because the world shouted it, but because you lived it quietly.
Humble, even when you carried the weight of all of us.
Friendly, even when life wasn’t friendly to you.
You taught me that real strength is in kindness. That a man can be firm and still be soft. That providing doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful.

I watched you.
I watched how you showed up, even when you were tired.
How you gave, even when you had little.
How you made people feel seen, welcomed, and safe — strangers and family alike, especially the love you showed to your wife, your best friend, our beloved mother.

Because of you, I know what a good man looks like.
Because of you, I learned that honor is in the small things: a greeting, a prayer, a hand offered, a promise kept.
Because of you, I learned to be a son who made you proud. And I will spend the rest of my life trying to keep making you proud.

Dad, you have gone ahead of us to rest. Considering the way you left us, we are forever grateful to the Almighty God. You requested for prayers as you felt weak, after the prayers, you said Amen and went to be with God your Maker. Mhmmmm, “Onye Nso anaa, onye Nso anaa, onye Nso anaa Eze ebube akpolugo ya naa”.

But your lessons walk with me. Your prayers still cover me. Your name will be spoken in our home with respect, with love, and with gratitude for as long as I live.

Thank you for the sacrifices I saw, and for the ones I will never know about.
Thank you for being my first teacher, my first example, my first safe place. You always told me :“Mgbada chekwaba onwe ya, o buru agulagu” meaning “If an antelope protects itself,it will never fall prey to the lion”

I am your first son. And though I cannot hug you again in this life, I carry you in everything I do.
Rest well, my hero, Akukalia Niger, until we meet again.
Rest in the bossom of the Almighty God,my kpokirikpo, very strong and healthy father until we meet to part no more.

*Your first arrow and son, forever grateful and forever yours.*

A Tribute to a Great Father

Sir Gibson Okafor will forever be remembered for the goodness he brought into the world. His life was marked by humility, simplicity, and an unwavering dedication to serving humanity. As a father, he poured love into his family, instilling in us respect, discipline, and values that continue to guide our lives today.

For me, his greatest gift to me was the gift of music. He was my very first piano teacher, and the fundamentals he taught me remain the foundation of my musical journey. Those lessons have carried me far, opening doors and shaping the path of my life.

Beyond his wisdom and guidance, he was a man of joy. He had a way of turning ordinary moments into celebrations through his dancing moves.

Daddy, we will miss you deeply. You were more than a father; you were the best dad in the world. Though you are no longer with us, your legacy of love, music, and faith will continue to live in us. Your influence continues in the choices we make, the values we carry, and the way we try to live with purpose.

Adieu, Akukalia Niger.

Eulogy for Sir Gibson Chukwunweike Okafor — Akukalia Niger

Good morning everyone.

I’m Divinefavour, his granddaughter.

It’s hard to stand here today because it means our Papa, Akukalia Niger, is truly gone. But I’m grateful too, because I get to tell you about the grandad who filled my life with so much love.

Sir Gibson Chukwunweike Okafor lived 96 beautiful years. The world knew him as Akukalia Niger, brilliant, a firm disciplinarian, yet his heart was open to everyone. He was kind to all. He was generous to all. He was the cheerful soul who kept our big family tied together with peace, love, and harmony.

As his grandkids, we were so blessed. I can’t pick one favorite memory because every moment with Grandad was special. Every holiday we spent with him, every visit, every story he told, they’re all treasures. He was tender with us in a way I’ll never forget. He loved his grandchildren deeply, with a quiet strength that made us feel so safe.

I remember he’d always bind our torn books and Bibles with love in his hands. He never made us feel like it was a bother. He was just so sweet to us. He taught me how to pray, how to sing hymns, how to put God first. Because of him, my faith has strong roots. He made December holidays the best, full of his laughter, his blessings, and that feeling that when you were with Papa, everything was okay.

Grandad counseled us a lot, but I learned the most just by watching him. I admired his integrity, his wisdom, the way he treated people with respect. He didn’t just talk about love and strong morals, he lived them every single day. To me, he was a hero. He showed me how one man’s life can hold a whole family together.

So how do I honor him now? I’ll carry his lessons with me. I’ll live by the values he planted in us. I’ll pray the way he taught me. I’ll love my family the way he loved us. He may not be here with us anymore, but Akukalia Niger is in heaven, and he’s in all of us grandkids he raised so well.

Papa, go well. I jekwa ofuma, Ichie.

I’ll miss you so much. I’ll miss your prayers, your hymns, your laugh that made every gathering bright. I’ll miss how you’d call my name and I’d feel so proud to be your granddaughter.

Thank you for 96 years of being our family’s foundation. Thank you for showing us God. Thank you for loving us without holding back.

We won’t let your legacy fade, Papa. We grandkids will make you proud.

We love you. We miss you so much. Rest peacefully in the arms of the God you served so faithfully.

Ka chifoo, Akukalia Niger.
Your granddaughter will see you again.

‌A Tribute to My Grandfather
Sir. Gibson Chukwunwike Okafor (Akukalia Niger)

My grandfather lived 96 remarkable years, and every one of them left a lasting imprint on me, our family and everyone who crossed his path. He was a man of quiet strength, unwavering kindness, and a deep sense of responsibility. He didn’t need to announce his goodness; he lived it steadily, humbly, and consistently.

He helped people without expecting anything in return. He offered guidance without judgment. He generously gave his time, his wisdom, his patience. Whether he was supporting a neighbor, comforting a friend, or caring for family, he showed what it meant to be truly present for others.

One of the greatest lessons he taught me personally was that Honesty is a virtue worth protecting. Not the easy kind of honesty that comes when the truth is convenient, but the deeper kind, the honesty that shapes your character, emphasis on "Character". He believed that a person’s word should mean something, that integrity is built in small moments, and that truthfulness is a form of respect. From him, I learned that honesty isn’t just about speaking the truth; it’s about living truthfully.

He also instilled in us the value of discipline, the discipline to work hard, to stay committed, to do what is right even when it is difficult. He lived with purpose and intention, and he taught us that consistency builds character, and character builds a life worth remembering.

At the center of his life was Christ. His faith guided his decisions, shaped his compassion, and grounded his strength. He didn’t preach loudly; he lived his faith quietly and sincerely. Through him, we learned what it meant to trust God, to walk in humility, to pray like our lives depend on it, and to love others with a Christlike heart.

Perhaps one of his greatest gifts was the way he brought our family together. He was our anchor; steady, dependable, and full of love. He created a home where everyone felt welcome, where laughter was shared, where differences were set aside, and where unity mattered more than pride. Because of him, we learned the importance of family, of showing up for one another, and of keeping our bonds strong.

Though he is no longer here, his influence continues in the values he passed down, the stories he left behind, and the example he set. His life reminds us that goodness doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful. It can be steady, humble and enduring.

I carry his lessons with me. I carry his memory with me. And I am deeply grateful for the 96 years he spent shaping our family, the world around him and for the part of him that lives on in me. Indeed, heaven gained an angel. Rest easy, Grandpa. You're loved immensely.

Grandpa,
I miss your voice already. I miss sitting with you, listening to you talk about “back in the day,” watching you pray for everyone before you ate. You had this way of making ordinary days feel special just by being there.
Thank you for loving us fiercely, for correcting us when we needed it, and for showing us what a godly man looks like. You finished your race well. Now we’ll keep running with the baton you passed to us.
I love you, Grandpa. See you on the other side.

TRIBUTE TO A LOVING DEAREST DADDY: The Legacy of Love and Strength
In the quiet moments of life, when the world feels vast and the heart feels small, I remember the hands that held me, the voice that guided me, and the heart that never stopped beating for me, To have you is to have a legacy not just of blood, but of boundless love, unwavering strength, and an unshakable example of what it means to live with purpose.
You were not always perfect, but you were always present. In the early days, you built our world with your labor, your patience, and your quiet determination. You taught us that hard work is the foundation of success, that kindness is the key to a full life, and that the truest measure of a man is how he treats those who cannot fight for themselves.
Your legacy is not in the grandest of gestures, but in the smallest of acts—your steady presence during our childhood fears, your quiet encouragement when we faltered, your unwavering belief in our potential even when we couldn’t see it. You wear the anchor in the storm, the calm in the chaos, the steady hand that guided us through the unknown.
You may not have spoken of your own struggles, but your life was a testament to resilience. You lived with integrity, with a heart that never turned away from those in need, and with a spirit that never gave in to despair. Your legacy is not just in the memories we hold, but in the way we carry ourselves—with dignity, with grace, and with the quiet understanding that we, too, are part of a greater story. Daddy, the greatest tribute is to live as you did. To honor your legacy is to carry forward the values you taught us, to be kind, to be strong, and to be forever grateful for the love that shaped us.
May your memory be a light, guiding us through the days and reminding us that love is not just a feeling, but a way of life. And may we, too, be fathers to those who come after us, passing on the fire you lit.
This remains the most painful tribute I have written but in God I take my solace because you lived a good life of emulation and your legacy remains a footprint guiding our path.

TRIBUTE TO A GREAT FATHER
LATE SIR GIBSON CHUKWUNWIKE OKAFOR (AKUKALIA NIGER)
AGED 96

It is with deep sorrow, yet gratitude to God for a fulfilled life, that I write this tribute in honor of a remarkable father, mentor, and elder, Late Sir Gibson Chukwunwike Okafor.

Papa lived a long and impactful life of 96 years, marked by wisdom, discipline, strength, humility, and love for family and community. He was a man whose presence commanded respect and whose words carried wisdom. His life was a shining example of hard work, integrity, and devotion to God.

To my dear friend, Ven Augustine Okafor, I can only imagine the depth of this loss. Losing a father is never easy, no matter the age, because fathers are pillars, protectors, counselors, and silent sources of strength. Yet, there is comfort in knowing that your father lived a fulfilled life and left behind honorable legacies through his children, family, and all who encountered him.

Papa Sir Gibson Okafor belonged to a rare generation of men who valued honor, unity, discipline, and the fear of God. His footprints will remain forever in the sands of time. Though he has departed this earthly world, his memories, teachings, and sacrifices will continue to speak for generations to come.

As Scripture says in 2 Timothy 4:7:

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

Indeed, Papa fought a good fight and finished well.

May God Almighty comfort the entire Okafor family during this difficult time and grant the soul of Late Sir Gibson Chukwunwike Okafor eternal rest in His heavenly kingdom.

Rest well, great patriarch.
Your labor was not in vain.
Your legacy lives on.
