Those who touch our lives, stay in our hearts forever.
Obituary
Sindy “Roxanne” Marshall was born on June 14, 1960, in Washington, Georgia, to Willie Lou Starks and Willie Castelow. She was raised in a home rooted in love, strength, and unwavering support, values she carried with her throughout her life. From a young age, Roxanne displayed a vibrant spirit, a kind heart, and a natural ability to bring comfort and joy to those around her.
Whether through her infectious laughter, her caring nature, or her quiet but steady presence, Roxanne was truly a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her family moved to Detroit when she was a child. She attended Detroit Public Schools, where she built lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for her future. A hardworking and dedicated woman, she pursued a career as a Medical Laboratory Technician and Phlebotomist, with certifications from Krainz Woods Academy. She took great pride in her work, and her compassion, diligence, and professionalism left a lasting impact on both her colleagues and the many patients she served.
Beyond her career, Roxanne was a woman of quiet strength, grace, and deep Faith. She carried herself with a gentle spirit, yet she stood firm in who she was, never afraid to speak up or take action when needed. She was independent, resilient, and took great pride in caring for her family. Her love for her children and grandchildren was unwavering, and she found her greatest joy in simply being present with those she loved.
Roxanne had a subtle sense of humor that could catch you off guard and bring a smile when it was needed most. She cherished time spent with family and friends, creating meaningful memories through both everyday moments and special occasions. Whether near or far, her presence brought a sense of calm, warmth, and reassurance to those around her.
A woman of Faith, Roxanne accepted Christ at an early age and remained rooted in her beliefs throughout her life. Even in her most difficult moments, she found strength and peace in God’s word, often turning to gospel music and scripture for comfort. Her Faith sustained her, uplifted her, and remained a guiding force until her final breath. After the passing of her beloved husband of over 40 years, Fred Marshall, Jr., in September 2024, Roxanne continued to lean on her faith and the love of her family with quiet resilience.
More than anything, Roxanne was devoted to her family and friends. She was a source of strength, wisdom, and unwavering support to all who knew her. She is survived by her mother, Willie Lou Starks; her siblings, Rickey Starks and Terrance Starks; her children, Kiliea Marshall, Shelia (Kenyon) Marshall-Curtis, and Shantell Marshall; her cherished grandchildren, Marrell, Morgan, Madison, Mariah, Will, and Markeith; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Castelow; her sister, James “Liz” Starks; and her husband, Fred Marshall, Jr., whom we take comfort in knowing welcomed her with open arms.
Though the pain of her loss is immeasurable, we find peace in knowing that her spirit lives on in every shared memory, every act of love, and every life she touched. Roxanne’s legacy of strength, faith, and quiet grace will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
