In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann (Nauman) Huber

Obituary

Shirley Ann Huber, née Nauman, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, on October 30, 2025. Born on September 3, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Thomas and Ann Nauman, Shirley lived a life defined by kindness, creativity, and love for her family.

A gentle soul, Shirley was always thinking of others and found joy in simple, meaningful moments. A bright student, Shirley was advanced to the next grade, twice, during her Elementary School years. During her high school years, she found delight in taking dance courses to strengthen her back, which was heavily affected by scoliosis. High School was where she met her future husband, George Huber. Shirley graduated from Normandy High School, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 16. She and George, shared a passion for music and dancing, and anyone who witnessed them on the dance floor dancing the Jitterbug was in for a real treat. Shirley married George at the age of 18 in 1955 and together they spent 54 beautiful years of marriage before George’s passing in 2010.

Shirley had many jobs of interest in her lifetime. Fresh out of high school, she was one of the first computer operators at General Motors in St. Louis, Missouri. She next spent years working in the banking industry while raising a growing family. Following the family’s move to DeSoto, Missouri, where she and George built a home on several acres of land, she worked in the library at Athena Elementary school. Shirley took night courses to learn shorthand and then began work as a Legal Assistant for a successful law firm in Hillsboro, Missouri. Shirley often stated that her favorite career role was her final position in the Continuing Education Department at Jefferson College, where she assisted residents in Jefferson County in learning skills and seeking placement in new careers.

Shirley and George loved bowling with friends and were part of a bowling league for several years. Shirley also enjoyed crafting, and spent time creating ceramic art and quilts with patience and skill. She was also an avid reader and loved to shop, even if she wasn’t buying anything, she loved the shopping time spent with her friends. Shirley and George loved taking care of their home and property and delighted in keeping it well maintained and meticulous. In addition, Shirley loved playing cards with George and her friends – and anyone who played these games soon witnessed the delightfully ruthless competitive spirit under her sweet demeanor. Live music always lifted her heart, and she especially delighted in attending the numerous concerts of both her sons.

After George’s passing, Shirley moved to Colorado, to be near her son and son-in-law, and enjoyed the mountains, weather, and a host of new friends.

Up until the end, Shirley always paid extensive attention to detail with her hair care.  While no longer a "natural" blonde since her early years, routine cuts, perms and colorings always stayed a key focus in her life - with outstanding results.

She is survived by her three children — Patricia Johnson, Charles Huber, and Joseph Huber — as well as a brother, Thomas Nauman.

Shirley’s life was a quiet melody of love, laughter, and kindness that will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
