Shailenbhai
valued friendship and family above all else, and treated every person he met with kindness and respect.
Shailenbhai enjoyed sharing funny texts, especially ones that involved alcohol quotes and memes, and whenever we went to his house, it was like being in an all inclusive place, fun, laughter and plenty of food and drinks.
He taught us the true meaning of resilience, of never giving up, of living life to the fullest, despite the odds.

Shailenbhai you left us all too early and very suddenly. We didnt get a chance to say goodbye but i know you will be looking down on us and will be in our hearts and thoughts.
I have fond memories of us from our childhood days when we use to visit you in Baroda during our summer holidays and also when you visited us in Bombay.
Those were the good old days we spent playing, eating , laughing and endless joy.
When you came to london we had fun eating and drinking and partying at Mamas house in Streatham. Those were the good old days and will cherish them.
You always had a positive attitude to life and always had a smile and always had a joke and made us laugh.
Will miss your funny wicked sense of humour.

REMEMBERING SHAILEN
I lived next door to the Ronak newsagent from the time it first opened. But it wasn’t just a shop. Alongside Nayna, Shailen made life better for the people living in our area. They created a community. I always said, “they’ve made it a village”. I made friends with people I met in the shop who I’d never have spoken to otherwise.
And Shailen and Nayna always looked out for us and helped us – they were at the centre of that community.
And through Shailen’s years of poor health when they still had the shop, I’d see him almost every day – and he always had that cheeky smile, that twinkle.
A lovely man, remembered with affection.

Fua,
I only got to know you for a brief time, but what a time it was. You were always welcoming and a great laugh. We shared a lot of good times and you were the KING of the good times. We are all sad to see you gone so early, but wherever you are I hope you are at peace and enjoying your Grants with water and coke.

This time I don't want to say bye..
When I was a child, I always thought you were strict and would avoid talking to you, cause to me, you shouted so loud.
As I grew up I realised what a softy you really are.
You had a fondness that brought people together and a kindness that was overlooked by all the mischief you caused.
I always respected your resilience and ability to stay postive, even with your ongoing health issues, I never heard you complain or fail to be there for your loved ones.
It's heartbreaking to see our family grieving whilst trying to live the way you would have wanted everyone to.
I will miss popping by to annoy you and that smile when I made you cuddle me!
Things won't be the same without you, we are at a lose..heaven is in trouble!

Wow, what a turn out on Sunday, just goes to show the love, affection and respect from all those who came along to remember you and what you meant to them.
I loved the tales and recollections from your friends about your younger days, a rebel, ringleader and full of life.
What stood out for me from Vipaul and Kishore reminisces was the lasting friendships you all have maintained from your childhood in Baroda, an extraordinary feat.
I was touched by tributes from the younger generation of your family. Sachin and Rohit spoke for all your nephews and nieces who saw you much more than a Kaka or Fua. You were also their friend, someone they could relate to, trust and look for guidance without fear of being self-conscious or judged.
Your friendship to me was a precious gift, I feel honoured and privileged you were such a dear and close friend to my dear late mum and me. I will always be grateful for everything you did for us.
Don’t worry about Nayna, Ronak, Komal, Jess, Kunal, Kaiya, Maahi, Dadaji and Mamiji, they’ll be so well looked after by so many of us.
I can now ask Nayna to make Dudhi Channa as often as I like.
We’ll meet again sometime to share an Achari Lamb with Garam Roti washed down with a large Grants.
All my love, I miss you Shailen, x

Shailen you have been a very good friend to me. We have spent many happy moments in our school days and school picnics. Those days are unforgettable. We will really miss you a jolly good person like you.
I and Hiten still remember the day of our reunion at Pavagadh resort, where you met Hiten for the first time, you made him feel so comfortable with your stories, as if you two knew each other since many years. You were so caring and warm hearted.
I will always remember your birthday wishes, you never missed to wish me.
Of course the school days are always unforgettable we had spent together till 1976.
After that we all embarked on to the different paths of our journey keeping our memories unforgettable.
Will always remember you.

Shailen, our friendship has been over 60 years and across 3 continents. From the time we first met and all the way thru life you have been inspiring, different, warm, generous, trouble maker and out of the box thinker. We are not related by blood, but god put us together. It was meant to be.
I still remember it was my first day at the Sacred Heart Primary School, in Mombasa. We were perhaps 6-7 years old. It was Catholic school with Christian prayers and strict principal with a cane! I was a little plump. African class mates learned few Gujarati words and teased me ‘Laddu-Penda’. In recess I was navigating to the first floor when I was cornered by a bulley. Suddenly out of nowhere, you come. You fearlessly grabed him, lift him and threw him to the ground floor, from the first floor! We only see this in the movies, but was happening for real. You got caning for this, but we became friends for life. Ever since, my time with you has been a non ending excitement.
We parted when there was exodus from Kenya Dec 1969. I ended up in Baroda, loosing touch with you. In India, I went to Baroda High School (Tabelo) for entrance exam. I suddenly see you walk over to me. You came closer and whispered ‘Laddu - Penda’ in my ear. I shhhised you - told no one knows that here, let it be our own secret!! There begins our second chapter. Friendship blossomed from there. Numerous incidents, each equally exhilarating. Our frequency tuned. I would not have to say anything- you just read my mind.
In our teen years, I spent a lot of time with you at your place in Alkapuri. Your family treated me like very own - mom and Sangita making sure I do not go hungry. My time there resulted in me coming closer to others Sunil P, Prakash V, Sunil T, Bobby, Chandresh, etc. One night you, Sunil P, Yakub and myself were studying at Sunil P place. Next day was final exam. Past mid night when everyone in the house were fast asleep, you get idea of going out for a ride ! Sunil P’s Chandukaka had a car parked downstairs and Sunil P had the master key! We quietly tiptoed downstairs and pushed the car outside the main gate and far away from the house. Sunil P drove us to Race Course Circle. While turning at Gautamnagar, we crashed the car. We somehow got back home and quietly pushed car back where it was originally parked. Next day, Sunil P got found out and got beating as car was sold and due to be handed over to the customer! That was kind of roller coaster we went thru when you were us, catalyst to naughty things…
Then we split again when I left for UK in Mar 1979, when we were 20. You and Sunil were so close to me by now that you both personally came to Mumbai to see me off. I Came back to India after five years in UK. Sunil P was married to Vasu by now. We went to Mt Abu day before I was to fly back. Other friends Chetan, Vidhyut’s and Micky had joined by now. While in Mt Abu, you convinced everyone to drink bhang, except me. Every one were so tipsy and having fun that no one noticed that police jeep was following us. They stopped us. Menancing looking Inspector came out and claimed that ladies in our group were making finger gestures to them. We got escorted to the Police Station. They were going to jail us! I was now panicking as I had flight next day!! But you, Sunil P and Chetan convinced the inspector to let us go - there was some chai pani involved. Such was roller coaster excitement every-time you were with us.
Always there were special trips you and Sunil P organized for me when I visited from UK. I recall us going to Mandu on MP border (Rani Rupmati Palace). We got lost in the wild and were hungry. No food Dhabas around. You and Samir went to the local tribals hut in the wild to borrow utensils, grains and spices, to cook khichdi in forest! Only you could think out of box like that. Then there was another episode when we went to Shashen Gir, where you challenged a sleeping lion only yards away with watchful eye of Forest Ranger. Only you would do that. You were such a catalyst for trouble.
Then we reconnect in UK again. We started working together at Future Computers, playing Cricket and having fun.You were with me when you had twisting of knee. Soon this led to some kind of infection in your joints and eventually your backbone. Still you were smiling and never complained - that was you. I will always miss you. Will join you soon and we can continue our chat.

Shailen my friend, jolly good fellow, will miss your ever smiling & jovial personality.
Can’t ever forget our discussion on Share trading on the phone during Covid. I tried to learn from your vast knowledge and experience in forward training. Hope to earn small percentage of what you used to, and feel satisfied. Only if I could come and be your guest in London house (like so many other friends) I would have mastered the art of Put & Option trading.
Stay in Peace
You always be in our Mind & Soul

Dad- it's your little girl here.
I am so proud to call you my dad and thanks for choosing me to be your daughter.
Thank you for showing us how to be brave, kind and dependable.
Thank you for the love you endlessly show me and kaiya and the love you extended to Kunal.
I hope you know how much you meant to me. I will miss our twice a day calls sharing daily updates, mundane news and everything in between.
I will always love you.
We will never forget you.
As you said to me on Wednesday you go into everything laughing
Keep laughing
Stay smiling
And Say hello to all our loved ones above.
Don't worry about us here we will carry on looking after each other. I'll look after mum, baa , dada, Ron and those around us.
The number of people praying for you and the visitors you have had in hospital were a testament to your life and kindness.
You know we have got this - I'll make you proud.
Love you dad

Shailen Uncle was and always will be an absolute G! I was a massive problem child, and unlike all the other adults who just told me off, he joked and laughed with me, always making me feel better and part of the group.
Always the heart and soul of the party, you’ll be sorely missed. Thank you for all the amazing memories, and for letting me drink your whiskey.
Peace and love,
Punjy x

Hey Shelly
Who am I going to do my bookings with at Hotel Shelly. You were the hostess with the mostess and who am I going to annoy by picking out all the good bits from the the bhusu.
But seriously you are going to be missed especially at Christmas with your one liners and santa belly.
It's not going to be the same without you 💔

Hi Shelly! Thanks so much for being so warm and welcoming towards me, especially in the early days. I will look back on our moments fondly because it was always such a good laugh and time. Rohin’s spoken so highly of you through the years, you mean so much to him. He’s also shared what life has thrown at you and how in the face of adversity, you’ve taken it on the chin with a smile on your face. You’ve always enjoyed every bit of life, I will take this life lesson with me. We’re so grateful to have celebrated our wedding with you, it will mean so much to have had such a blast with you. Miss you here, love you always 🫶🏽

Hi Kaka,
It’s the gunda! What’s going on bruv?
Thank you, thank you kaka for always being there for me, and all of us. You’ve been a second dad for me and I’ll never forget you, all that you’ve done for me and all that you’ve taught me .
I’ve learnt so much from you - how to be resilient, how to be smart, how to care for my loved ones and how to enjoy life.
You’ve always put a smile on me and you’ve extended your love for this gunda to Miloni, which I’m so grateful for.
It meant everything to have you celebrate our special day in April with us.
I’ll never forget our fun chill times, errand running, listening to your stories, all the food we enjoyed together, the drinks, the laughs, the massages!
We’ll be there for Kaki, Komal and Ronak - there’s so many of us to show them all the love they need and deserve.
I love you kaka, always
