He was very much liked by everyone in our family. He was quiet, warm and friendly, made us all laugh and Nanny adored him, luckily for him, he must have been special for her to have let Aunty Sue marry him and leave the country.
My brother Michael used to follow Uncle Frank around as often as he could and would sit on his knee and chatter to him. He gave Michael some of his uniform buttons.
Nanny threw a huge party for the newly married couple before they left for America.
All Aunty Susan’s siblings were there and their wives, husbands and children.
We sang the old English songs like Yankee Sailor, Henry the Eighth, and White Cliffs of Dover, We played Canasta and Newmarket and ate lots of food.
There were lots of laughs but tears that we wouldn’t be seeing them anymore.
We all knew that Aunty Sue would be safe with Uncle Frank.
What a legend.

I was bridesmaid along with my sister at their wedding and always remember uncle frank spit and polishing his boots which I found fascinating . He obviously found England very cold as he always wore thermal long John’s regardless of the weather it seems. Always had us as children in fits of laughter when ever he visited. I remember my dad and he had changed a wheel on his car and took it for a test drive down Combe hill only for the wheel to suddenly appear in front how we managed to stop is a miracle. Good memories he will be greatly missed on both sides of the water xx
