To know her was to love her

Obituary

Sandra (Sandy) Diane Gunlock (Coker), 65, of Anna, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on January 12, 2026, at her home. Sandra was truly an angel on earth—sweet, selfless, and endlessly nurturing to everyone she met. Her life was rooted in faith, love, and giving, always placing others before herself.

Sandra’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother and wife, a loving daughter, and a cherished sister, aunt, and friend. A true social butterfly, she built community wherever she went, staying connected through thoughtful messages and her well-known sports-related texts. Above all, she will be remembered for her infectious smile—one that could brighten a room and make anyone feel at home.

Sandra married Michael R. Gunlock in 1984 and remained faithfully by his side until his passing in 2017, a reflection of her loyal and devoted heart.

Sandra found beauty in all of God’s creation. She had a remarkable green thumb, creating stunning gardens wherever she lived, and she adored all living beings—especially her beloved cats, Fay and May. Always put together and known for her cheerful colors and florals, she loved old movies, watching sports, and 70s music—and she wasn’t afraid to dance. She also enjoyed nature walks, snorkeling, and kayaking, and held a special fascination with airplanes and air travel.

Sandra is survived by her daughters, Patricia Erickson (Ben Erickson) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Abigail Gunlock of Cincinnati, Ohio; her brothers, Stan Coker (Alice Coker) of Dallas and Steve Coker (Leslie Coker); and her newly found sister, Marty Wynne. She is reunited in Heaven with her husband, Michael R. Gunlock; her mother, Lindy Coker; her father, Vernon Coker, mother-in-law, Patricia Gunlock, and father-in-law, Donald Gunlock.

A Visitation and Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at First Anna Church (213 W 2nd St, Anna, TX 75409).
In Sandra’s honor, we ask that you wear cheerful colors—just as she always did.

Sandy was a very special lady who was loved by all. We moved next door to Mike and Sandy in the new development in 1988. Sandy was a kind and caring Southern belle with a beautiful smile and laugh. She was always dressed in lovely, long, floral skirts or dresses, even when out walking her dog Zoey.
We were so fortunate to have the Gunlocks as our neighbors for almost 30 years. We watched Patricia, and then Abby play with our boys, and grow up before our eyes.
We spent together many neighborhood parties, dinners, New Years Eves, and chats in our yards about life. Jeri and Sandy even shared a birthday.
Up until her last few days, we were texting about some of our favorite sports teams, notably the Bengals and the Reds. Jeri and I miss Sandy and Mike in our lives. Sending all our love to Patricia, Ben and Abby!

Sandy was my joy and delight. As newlyweds, Ed and I couldn't get in our new house next door to hers on move in day. We were sitting on the steps sweltering, when a lovely woman walked over with a pitcher of ice water and glasses. Sandy was like a refreshing drink in the desert ever since. We shared a love of plants, animals, God, our families and soups. We would meet in our yards to share sitings of birds, flowers and even a mink!
Her nature is exemplified by how at neighborhood Christmas ornament exchanges she would steal a gift if someone seemed disappointed with it. She had her eyes on what was not seen. I will miss her and treasure her memory until we are united in Christ. Love you too Patricia and Abby.

Sandy was such an amazing woman. She loved her family and friends so deeply and treated everyone with love, kindness, and warmth. She loved life and loved connecting with others. I had the privilege of knowing her almost my entire life through my friendship with Abby. She treated me like one of her own and helped shape who I am today. I couldn’t thank her enough for all her love throughout the years and of course weekly sleepovers, dinners, drives to school and endless special occasion celebrations. She will always hold a special place in our hearts. She will be missed so much. Sending all my love to Abby and Patricia ❤️ I’m so sorry for your loss.

Sandy was one of the most caring, sweetest & loving woman I have ever had the privilege of knowing. She always had a smile on her face & always wanted to make everyone else around her smile as well. She loved her family, her husband and especially her daughters. Even though I haven’t been around Sandy since we worked together which has been around 15 years I know the world is dimmer because she’s not around spreading her infectious smile & personality.

Sandy was one of the sweetest souls I have had the privilege to know. She had such a sweet and calming spirit and as you said, would always brighten a room by being in it. We all loved her so. I was so happy to see her at the family reunion last Summer and to have gotten that opportunity to see her again. What comfort we can take to know she is with our Lord and Savior and reunited with her love, Michael again. May God comfort you all through this great loss. My prayers are with you all.

Sandy was such a joy to know. She was always smiling and so kind. We spent so much time together serving of our Lord and Savior at Forestville Baptist Church. We loved sharing stories of our children and families.

I remember the first conversation I had with Sandy. Prob about 1995 in Thriftway parking lot on 5 mile. She smiled and said I think I know you from church. Many memories of working together in Toddlers church...I recall her being so good with the little ones. She brought a couple of apples as a snack and took several minutes discussing all the possible apple colors. She was amazingly patient.
