Obituary

Sandra Edmonson Day

Sandra Edmonson Day, 87, of Gladewater, TX completed her earthly journey on September 30, 2025, passing away peacefully in Dallas, TX. Her final chapter followed a long, courageous, and dignified struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

The slow erosion of memory brought by this illness challenged the core of a truly strong and brilliant spirit. Though Alzheimer’s gradually diminished her memories, it could never extinguish her intrinsic warmth or the profound, quiet strength that sustained her throughout her life. She transitioned quietly and gently, a calm and serene ending to her time with us. Though we are deeply heartbroken by the profound silence of her physical absence, we are immeasurably grateful for the gift of her life, the enduring love she gave, and the indelible mark she left on our family's foundation. We take immense comfort in the sacred knowledge that Sandra's brilliant spirit is now free and whole again, released from the frailties of her earthly body. Our dear mother has completed her journey. She is not gone, but has become an enduring, living part of the world around us—a permanent, powerful presence woven into the warmth of the sun and the very fabric of life. Mom is now at rest in a realm of pure consciousness, her essence restored and eternal.

Sandra is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Lissa Shaw of Colorado Springs, CO, and her son, Karl Day and his husband, Lennis Boggs, of Dallas, TX. She also leaves behind many cherished grand-dogs.

Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Bryant Ezell “Jack” and Iva Dimple Barron Edmonson, both of Gladewater, as well as her siblings: sisters Beverly Dawn Edmonson and Mary Dianne Sylvestro; and brothers Thomas Andrew Edmonson, Delvin Bryant Edmonson, and John Edward Edmonson.

Her children express their profound and sincere gratitude to the compassionate team of caregivers and professionals who supported Sandra throughout her final chapter. Their unwavering commitment in providing comfort, dignity, and peace surrounded Sandra with love and completed her journey with grace.

We remember our mother not for an easy life, but for a fiercely and powerfully lived one. She met profound challenges not with resignation, but with a tenacious will that became her signature. She was a sculptor of her own joy, crafting a life of meaning and strength not from ease, but from the very hardships she was given. She taught us that resilience is not about never falling, but about the dignity and grit required to rise, every single time. Above all, her strength was a furnace fired by her love for her children. Our every success was her triumph; our every happiness, her reward. The sight of her children building their lives was the pride that lit her eyes and fortified her spirit.  Her journey was a testament to the human spirit, sustained by a faith that, while quiet, was deeply her own. May she now have the peace she so persistently cultivated and so richly deserves.  Her loving spirit, now a ceaseless energy, is a constant reminder that love itself is the only eternal memory.  And now, as her journey continues, we send her forth with this ancient blessing, one that echoes the peace she always sought:

The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.
(Numbers 6:24-26)

A gathering to celebrate Sandra's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers or formal memorial contributions, we invite you to honor her memory through a simpler, more meaningful tribute: the daily practice of love and genuine human connection. We ask that you take a moment in your own life to reach out to someone, offer a profound kindness without expectation, listen deeply, forgive an old grievance, share a cherished memory, lead with empathy, or foster a deep connection. Above all, tell someone you love them. This declaration is a universal necessity; speak it twice—once for the person who needs to hear that affirmation, and once for yourself, to remind your own heart of its enduring power. Tell someone you love them.  Thank you for helping her legacy live on through these small, powerful acts.

Her loving children,

Melissa (Lissa) & Karl (Scooter)

~ A Celtic Blessing

May her soul which endured so bravely, now swim in the joy of God.  May the swift winds of heaven carry her home to the place of her arising.  May she find in the eyes of the Ancient of Days the same fierce love she showed this world.  And until we meet again, may she hold us gently in the corner of her newfound peace.

What a wonderful and loving tribute for a lovely person. I was a classmate of Sandra's sister, Dianne, and remember Sandra well.

This is a beautiful tribute and one that makes your mom’s spirit shine. I am saddened by this loss, the last of the Edmonson clan aunts and uncles. Please know I hold you in my thoughts during this difficult time.
