Obituary

Sandra Jean (Griffiths) Eckman Boehning, affectionately known as "Sandy," passed away on April 17, 2024, at Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, FL, at the age of 82 due to complications from an allergic reaction to a prescribed medication.

Sandy was born on August 16, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA, to William David Griffiths "Bill," a firefighter with the Philadelphia Fire Department, and Elizabeth Myrtle (Wager) Griffiths Glaspey "Betty," a dedicated Secretary/Bookkeeper. She pursued her education in Philadelphia and furthered her studies at Penn State University, Parsons College (where she earned her BA), and Nova University (where she earned her Masters in Education Leadership).

Sandy devoted 35 years to teaching, primarily in Hillsborough County, with an additional three years in Atlantic City Schools. Her students and family cherished her deeply. She also served as a Reader/Scorer at Measurement Incorporated.

Sandy actively participated in various community organizations, including Eastern Star, Corinthian, and Priscilla Chapters, as well as The Republican Party of Hills County, Rainbow Girls, The Angel of Hope Foundation, and Bereaved Parents of Tampa Bay. She contributed significantly to the Children’s Chapel at St. Catherine of Alexandria Episcopal Church in Temple Terrace, Florida, where she also served as the Interim Director of Christian Education.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty; father, Bill; and grandchild, Caylee Cepero. Sandy's love for her family was boundless. She is survived by her two children, her son, Geoffrey (Michelle) Boehning, of Temple Terrace, FL; and daughter, Dawn Cepero, of Lakeland, FL; her brother, William (Geri) Griffiths Jr. "Bill"; and former daughter-in-law, Angel Boehning. She shared a special bond with her adoring grandchildren, Morgan (Mike) Szuch, Riley (Codey Philips) Boehning, Corbin (Taylor) Cepero, Kennedy Cepero, Hunter Carrero, Matthew Carrero, Amelia Boehning, and; one great-grandchild, Tatum Boehning-Philips; as well as her cherished friends. Sandy's affection and guidance enriched the lives of all who were blessed to know her.

Sandy's legacy of love, compassion, and dedication lives on through her family and friends. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at St. Catherine of Alexandria Episcopal Church on June 8th, 2024, at 11 am, followed by the Internment of Ashes Ceremony and Reception at the same location.
