Roy was Pat to me. I always enjoyed running into him around the way because he was always so upbeat and enthusiastic about something. He seemed to love having conversations, always giving his full attention and just giving off a pleasant vibe. He hooked me up with a local sign maker in Berkeley when I needed some work way back in the 90s and I always remember how willing to help he was. I hadn't crossed paths with him in decades at this point, but when I think of him, I remember his big smile and general positivity. Rest easy, Roy. You will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew you.

Roy rode his skateboard up to the door and walked in to our sign shop one day when we were just starting up and things looked pretty grim. He was 17 years old and just got into town from Arizona. His hair was long and dirty and he was running a fever from the flu. Even through that I could see the spark that was Roy. I looked up at him and wondered to myself “well where have you been?” I asked if he had a place to stay and sent him home to rest, telling him to come back when he felt better.
Roy worked alongside our sons and I for over 10 years and helped to make the sign company a success. We always invited him to Thanksgiving dinner and felt he was part of our family.
I won’t forget his enthusiasm and drive when he gave me a tour and showed me his various sewing machines!
I was amazed and proud of his success.
We miss you, Roy. Thank you.
