Obituary

Rosemary Brown passed away in her Lee’s Summit, Missouri home on May 28, 2026, at the age of 74.

She was born on February 18, 1952, in Hope, Arkansas to Roosevelt Clarence Williams and Melrose Williams. She was raised in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Lincoln College Preparatory Academy. After high school, she continued her education at
Penn Valley Community College where she received her Associate's degree.

During college she joined the Delta Pi sisterhood of Sigma Gamma Rho and her commitment to service is expressed in its slogan, “Greater Service, Greater Progress.” She later joined the alumni chapter of Psi Sigma.

Upon completion of her degree, she enrolled at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri where she earned a Bachelor's degree in elementary education.

After college, she moved back to Kansas City and eventually landed a position as a teacher at Thatcher Elementary School. She remained at Thatcher for 9 years as she fell in love with her role as an educator. While working at Thatcher, she decided to return to school and pursue her Master’s Degree in elementary education from Webster University.
After pursuing her Master’s she then transitioned to a new program within the Kansas City Public School system called The Gifted Education Program. She served as a gifted education teacher for 22 years, supporting multiple schools concurrently. The pinnacle of
her teaching career came in 2008 when she received the Gifted Educator of the Year award from the State of Missouri. In 2010, after 32 years with the Kansas City Public School System Rosemary retired to close a storied chapter as a gifted education teacher.

After retiring from the Kansas City Public School System Rosemary then accepted a role as an English instructor at Penn Valley Community College. She served as an English professor for 12 years before fully retiring in 2022.

Outside of the classroom, Rosemary was a devoted mother. In 1979 she married Thomas Brown Jr. and from that union she had two sons, Travis and Tyrell. Rosemary took great pride and joy in being a mother and watching her two boys grow up. She spent countless hours at sporting events, band events, and parent/teacher conferences
supporting her boys and their interests. She also was a loving grandmother and loved spending time with her only grandson Kendrick playing games and watching tv.

Rosemary was preceded into death by her father R.C. Williams, her mother Melrose Williams, her brother Gerry Williams and nephew Pedro Ramos Jr. She is survived by her two sons Travis Brown (Joy) and Tyrell Brown; one grandson, Kendrick Braden-Brown; two sisters; Linda Ramos
