It is with great sadness that I learned of Rose’s passing on June 10, 2026.
I joined the Irvine Book Club (IBC) in October 2020. Rose, then the president, personally welcomed me into the organization and encouraged me from the very beginning. At that time, I never imagined that IBC would become such an important part of my life.
Rose saw potential in me before I saw it in myself. She gave me the opportunity to create promotional posters—something I had never done before—and patiently guided me every step of the way. Later, she encouraged me to serve as Vice President and eventually President of IBC. Because of her trust and mentorship, I learned many new skills, expanded my horizons, and formed countless meaningful friendships.
One of the things I admired most about Rose was her unwavering commitment to IBC. When I was struggling to find a successor after my term as President, Rose stepped forward without hesitation and took on the responsibility herself. I will never forget her loyalty, generosity, and dedication.
Rose was fluent in both English and Chinese, intelligent, confident, and a natural leader. She had a strong presence, yet behind that strength was a warm and caring heart that uplifted and inspired so many people.
She truly changed my world, and for that I will be forever grateful.
Thank you, Rose, for your friendship, guidance, and belief in me.
You will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Rest in peace.

To my BFF, Dear Cyber 🌹,
Missing you is a weight I’ll carry with love. Since the early ’80s we’ve leaned on each other, and I’ll keep leaning on your spirit now.
Your heart was always with Max — your pillar while he was here, your compass after he left this realm. It comforts me to know you’re together forever.
Pls give Ryan a 🤗 from Auntie Gloria!
Cyber 🌹, here’s the tribute I shared with our Rocking Edits family:

Quiet Homecoming! Remembering Rose: A tribute to her life, love, and legacy
Dear Sisters in Editing,
It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Rose, our dear friend and fellow Rocking Edits.
Quiet Homecoming
Last night, loved ones around
Rose whispered for Max and went
Home at last, with him
It would be a fitting touch to send along a copy of "Chinese Americans in Irvine” with Rose as she begins her onward journey to reunite with her beloved Max. Theirs is a beautiful, enduring love story. She was the love of his life, and we can find peace knowing she is in his warm embrace once again.
A Love Letter to Our Community
That book was far more than a finished product to Rose. She poured her heart and soul into it. In fact, it was her love letter to our community. She threw herself into these projects with true gusto, always sharing her generous spirit.
Yet, the true reward for Rose was never just the books. It was the deep friendship and growth she shared with all of us in the Rocking Edits. During her hardest days caring for Max, this project was a lifeline. It sustained her and lifted her spirits time and again. She was at one with the community and drew strength from it.
Moving Forward Together
That was our dear friend Rose: always striving to grow, and always propelling the rest of us forward with her. She lived by the African proverb:
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
It was never enough for Rose to strive to be the best version of herself. She wanted everyone in her circle to rise and grow with her.
While she did not get to see our second compendium fully completed, she absolutely reaped the rewards of the journey. Sending the first book with her would honor her immense dedication --- a piece of the legacy she helped create.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
— Margaret Mead
Rose proved those words true with every page, every edit, and every single life she touched. She will be deeply missed.
Warmly,
Gloria D
