Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day.
Obituary
Robert Christopher Herbert, born to Robert Lee Herbert and Elsie Mae (Falkquay) Herbert in Austin, TX, on July 30, 1959, had a vibrant youth. His love for music and sports kept him busy and social during his middle and high school years. He was a part of the band at Johnston High School, where he played the trumpet and the tuba, and even performed a memorable solo on the tuba. His love for sports was evident as he was a part of the varsity basketball team at Johnston. He graduated from LBJ High School, leaving behind a legacy of his love for music and sports.
Robert's talents extended beyond music and sports. He discovered a passion for culinary arts and spent 30 years as a dedicated breakfast chef in the Austin area's 5-star hotels. His cooking skills were highly praised by family and friends, and he could often be found in the kitchen, wearing his chef coat and hat, and perfecting a dish with his knives in hand.
Above everything else, Robert loved his family. He was a proud father to Shawnesse Nicole and Christopher Robert throughout his days on this side of heaven. Chris was a faithful brother to all his siblings (David, Derick, Carolyn, and Idera). He cared for his sister, Idera, and his niece, Jaylynn, for many years until she passed in 2018. He was protective of everyone he loved throughout his life.
Robert is preceded in death by his Mother (August 27, 1984), Grandmother (Ida May Falkquay East), Sister (Idera Pearlette Herbert Aroh ), Aunts: Mildred Marie Falkquay Rivers, Evelyn Louise Falkquay Hunter, Mary Ann Falkquay Byrd, and Uncle: Calvin Falkquay, and Pauline Green Johnson-Ragston.
Robert leaves to celebrate his memories of two loving and devoted children, Shawnesse Herbert and Christopher Herbert. Siblings: David Anthony Falkquay (Sarah), Derick Wayne Herbert, Carolyn Herbert Bishop (Silas), Wayne Baker, Father Robert Lew Herbert (Sally), nieces, nephews, Herbert family (Dallas), and a host of other relatives and family (Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, California)
In Memory of our Father & Brother
You were a passionate, fun-loving, took-no-mess gift from God that nobody can ever replace. Anyone who met you could never forget you. At the end of the day, you were just so cool and always the life of the party. So, we will remember the lessons you taught us, your laughter and smile, and the food you prepared to feed our souls.
God took you swiftly because he knew there was only one way to be "Herb," and anything less would not be you. So we wipe our tears and fill our hearts with your memories because we know your spirit lives above the clouds. Therefore, we will wait until we unite again.
We love you and always will.

salad for Christmas dinner. One year it was crunchy. He blamed it on his sister Idera was in the way. Before he would leave, he would always have to try out his musical skills on the piano at my moms house. Also one year he met my significant other. He asked him Say dude you gone be here next year?
