Obituary

Robert (Bob) Bodnar of Scott Township, passed away on June 6th, 2026 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of 58 years of Pat (Doloughty), loving Father of Shelli (David), Kari (Tim) Halloran, and Lisa; Grandfather of Kelsey, Brenna, Mia, Cole, Reed, Meera and Layla; Brother of Barbara Rigot, Donald (Karen) Joyce, Richard (Colleen) Joyce, Linda (David) Culbert; Brother-in-law of Michael (Pat) Doloughty and Richard (Laurie) Brennan.

Bob was a proud 1967 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and loved cheering for his team. He spent his entire career at VEBH Architects until his retirement as president at age 72.

His greatest accomplishment, his greatest pride was his family. He was deeply proud of them and the people they have become. He especially enjoyed family beach vacations and dressing up as Santa Claus at Christmas. He was patient, kind, generous and quick-witted.

As we celebrate the life of Bob, let us cherish the memories and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Rd, McMurray PA 15317 on June 26th from 5:00-7:00 pm.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on June 27th at 10:30 at St. Louise de Marillac Church, 310 McMurray Rd, Pittsburgh PA 15241

Having grown up next door to Bob & his wonderful family in a side by side duplex in Dormont, our memories of Bob began, literally, at childbirth. (Bob’s Dad & our Mom were brother & sister.) We shared colds, measles, chickenpox, poison ivy & every other contagious virus there was. We played together, celebrated birthdays & holidays together, rarely fought with each other, kept secrets from our parents and no one could pull off a prank better than Bob.

How blessed we were, never parting until we married, left home & began lives of our own. The love didn’t end there though. As adults, our friendships evolved & grew stronger with every passing get together. There was never a time that Bob couldn’t bring fun & laughter to any event.

His leaving this earth doesn’t end the bond we’ve been blessed to share. The happy times & wonderful memories we cherish have no end. It makes us realize how lucky we’ve been & his memory gives us one more treasure to be grateful for. Thanks, Bob, for all of that.

The way in which Uncle Bob lived his life is to be revered. He truly had a passion for everything he did that I have always greatly admired. No one had to question how much he loved his work, his family, or his wonderful wife. Because he showed you just how much. Whether it was excitedly talking about a work project, proudly telling you what the girls and grandkids were doing, or laughing and smiling with Aunt Pat - you knew. And where I will miss him greatly, I am so grateful for the childhood stories that my mom will continue to share, the memories he gave my own daughters that they will always cherish, and providing an example of what true love is. Sending you all our thoughts and prayers.

Pat love and prayers are sent up for you and yours. Bob was one of my favorite people. I so miss our times together. The South hills Catholic boys were always the best.
