I’ve had a very interesting life.
Obituary
Rina passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, July 11, 2024. She died peacefully with courage and grace to the end. She was a brave and exceptional soul, and she will be missed.
Rina was born and raised in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) on 10/12/1954. She received her BA and MBA at Stellenbosch University in Capetown, South Africa. She spent the first part of her work career in the corporate world, living in Capetown and Santiago, Chile. She first arrived in Bluff in about 2000 and ran horse-pack trips, wrote books (see below) and enjoyed the desert surroundings. Since 2008 she has spent most of her time living and working in New Zealand. Rina lived near Whanganui, on a property overlooking the Whanganui River. She made many friends among her neighbors in Whanganui. Rina was very active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Whanganui and Napier. She leaves behind many friends in her church community. Her faith gave her courage and peace in her final days. As she put it, “I’ve had a very interesting life.”
The canyons and red rocks of Bluff held a special place in Rina’s heart, but it was the people here that she loved the most. She returned to Bluff in June looking forward to visiting with old friends but sadly became too ill too quickly to see many people.
Rina leaves behind Hoyt, her partner of twenty years, cousins in Australia, friends and her church community in New Zealand, her friends in Bluff and fond memories in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Friends and family from across the globe are encouraged to submit stories, remembrances, and photographs to share. Hoyt and Rina thank their friends for their help and concern. Hoyt is grateful for the people at the clinic, hospital, nursing home and Hospice for their care and empathy during Rina’s final days.

Hoyt, what a precious gift you gave your dear life partner Rina, taking such good care of her (and everything) throughout her last illness, and being there with her to say good-bye. May the moments you’ve shared live on in your memories forever.
