Richard Andrew Widener

The canvas is never truly finished; we just find beautiful places to stop
Obituary
A Legacy of Art and Motion
Richard Andrew Widener, a man who defined his century through vibrant color and tireless momentum, passed away at home on April 8, 2026. Having recently celebrated his 99th birthday and having entered his 100th year, Richard left this world as he lived in it: with a paintbrush in hand and a spirit that refused to slow down.
Beyond the studio, Richard was an elite runner, known as much for his endurance on the pavement as his joy on the canvas. He believed in the rhythm of the road, finding a meditative peace in the miles he logged well into his later years.
He is remembered by friends, family, and the artistic community as a man of profound discipline, quiet wit, and an inexhaustible zest for life. While the race has ended, the colors he left behind remain as vivid as ever. He is survived by his wife, Susan LeBlanc and his daughter, Lana Widener.

I’m sharing a copy of the photo herein with a few of the members of the Irving Black Arts Council who also enjoyed their time with him and will miss one of its cheerleaders.
