Celebrating a wonderfully creative man with a grin that reached all the way to his eyes.
Remembering Rhys
Rhys will be remembered as an easygoing and loving brother, a funny and inventive father, and a wonderful friend. He was an incredibly creative mechanical genius who invented tools and machines as he needed. If Rhys was not hard at work or busy giving someone a hand, you would almost certainly find him with his nose buried in a book. He loved reading, and there could never be enough books in his life to satisfy his insatiable curiosity and appetite for learning and understanding the world. During his final days, his daughter spent the time reading to him from one of his favourite books, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, which he had delighted in sharing with her when she was young.
Kangaroo Island was paradise for Rhys, and although he travelled with his family to Queensland to settle there for a number of years, they eventually returned to Kangaroo Island and he very quickly reintegrated into the community and the place he loved so dearly. Despite losing everything in the 2020 fires, he was determined to dust himself off and remain on the island, and to just get on and make the best of things, always leading with the “she’ll be right” attitude he was known to embody.
