A limb has fallen from the family tree, that says 'Grieve not for me'. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived, while I was Strong.
Obituary
Ralph Lozano, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, at the age of 73. He was born on August 30, 1952, in Harlingen, Texas, to Guadalupe Lozano Sr. and Anita Lozano.
During his childhood, Ralph’s family moved to Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood in search of community and opportunity. It was there, surrounded by his five siblings—Lupe Jr., Emma, Rudy, Gus, and Lizzy—that Ralph’s character was shaped. He became a man known for his kindness, generosity, and heart of gold.
Ralph was the epitome of a devoted family man, always offering his love and support. He shared 40 years of marriage with his beloved Alma Alvarado. Together, they built a life grounded in love, respect, and shared values. As a father, he instilled in his four children the values of hard work, courage, and compassion, encouraging each of his children to pursue their unique talents.
As a grandfather, he was the proud patriarch of six grandchildren, whose lives were brighter for his presence. He prioritized his attendance to as many recitals, sports games, and school events as he could—always cheering them on and celebrating their accomplishments with immense pride. Ralph had a gift for turning ordinary moments into extraordinary memories, leaving a legacy of joy and laughter in his wake. Many of his children’s and grandchildren’s fondest memories include drawing with him—Ralph's talent as a self-taught artist sparked creativity and connection for generations.
He believed deeply in giving back to his community. As a young man, Ralph was passionate about martial arts—not just as a sport, but as a way to empower young people. He saw it as a powerful tool for physical, mental, and social well-being. He envisioned a world where the discipline, confidence, and sense of community fostered by martial arts could help youth navigate the challenges of adolescence and beyond, equipping them with valuable life skills and coping mechanisms. Ralph dedicated much of his early life to this mission, serving as a martial arts instructor at St. Ludmila Church in La Villita (Chicago’s Little Village) throughout the 1970s.
Ralph’s dedication extended into a professional career that spanned nearly four decades. He achieved the status of Senior Quality Control Inspector, retiring at 65 years old, after a distinguished career that exceeded boundaries and miles, even internationally, as Ralph’s expertise in his field was sought after and took him to extraordinary places. In his professional life, Ralph was known for his meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical mind, and unwavering work ethic. His strong communication and problem-solving skills made him an invaluable team member, and he was appreciated for his ability to collaborate effectively and support others in their work.
In his well-earned retirement, Ralph enjoyed fishing—relishing the peaceful solitude of the water and the thrill of the catch. He also loved to travel, especially to visit family, maintaining close relationships and making it a point to show up for the milestones and celebrations of his loved ones. Whether near or far, Ralph’s presence was always felt. He believed deeply in the power of family and demonstrated that belief through consistent love and support.
Innately, Ralph also had a deep love for music and dancing, often lighting up any room with his rhythm and energy. He was a proud and loyal Chicago sports fan, with a special passion for his beloved teams: Da Bears and the Chicago White Sox. His loyalty, enduring commitment, infectious spirit and enthusiasm for life were evident in everything he did.
Ralph is survived by his four children: Diego Rafael Lozano-Alvarado, Salvador Rudolfo Lozano-Alvarado, Vida Flor Lozano-Alvarado, and Rafael Alvarado Lozano; six beloved grandchildren: Donovan Rafael McNichols, Fiona Maya Lozano, Madilyn Maria McNichols, Sofia Flor Lozano, Xoaquin Rafael Lozano, and Isaiah Taylor Lozano; his former wife and lifelong friend, Maria Alma Alvarado; his siblings: Guadalupe (Aida) Lozano Jr., Emma Lozano, Gustavo (Margo) Lozano, and Elizabeth Lozano. He was predeceased by his brother, Rudolfo Lozano, and is survived by Rudy’s wife, Lupe Lozano. He is also remembered fondly by his former sister-in-law, Martha Alvarado, along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish their memories with him.
Though Ralph’s physical presence is no longer with us, his influence endures in the hearts and lives of all who knew him. His legacy is one of love, laughter, strength, and unwavering dedication to family and friends. We take comfort in knowing that Ralph’s kindness and spirit will continue to guide and inspire us—just as it always did.

Ralph enjoyed his time here and had many good friends. He had the rare opportunity to snowmachine with a large group of locals on Vermont's amazing trail system. He relished our rural lifestyle and enjoyed driving a tractor and four-wheeling. Ralph revisited Vermont twice in the last five years. The photos show the people who came together because of him. He also said he slept well here because he felt safe. We never saw Ralph in a bad mood, and what he liked about Vermont was that the people were such "characters". Ralph talked about his family a lot and you could tell they meant the world to him. Ralph had a very big personality and a lot of charisma. He was the life of the party and the people here in Vermont loved him.

Bobbie was happy that you were able to share in celebrating her 70th and she had the last dance with you of course a Texan dance song.

Ralph, you were more than a friend—your spirit and kindness made you like a brother to me. We shared countless days on the water, surrounded by fishing tales, laughter, and camaraderie. Your presence brought joy and comfort, and your absence leaves a void in our hearts.
Thank you for the memories, the friendship, and the countless times we simply enjoyed the serenity of a good day fishing. Rest in peace, Ralph. You will always be missed, never forgotten.

RALPH LOZANO ESTA PRESENTE!
Our children, grandchildren and I will love and cherish him forever.
Ralph, for YOU, Dearest,
"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better whether by healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded." - Ralph Waldo Emerson.
