A loving wife, mother and nurse who was dedicated to making a better life for her children and others."

Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Jean MacDonald, a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Phyllis was born on June 24th, 1952 in Denver, Colorado and passed away on January 14th, 2025 in Fort Collins, Colorado. She lived a life full of dedication and kindness to others.

Phyllis was an independent soul who was deeply invested in her career and her family. After high school, she left the small town where she grew up to pursue a degree in Nursing at the University of Colorado. There she began to build a career of nursing for the next 40 years. She worked in several places as a nurse, from Aurora, Colorado to Asheville, North Carolina and then later to Naples, Florida where she retired. She helped countless patients and built great friendships in her career.

In her twenties, she moved to Houston, Texas where she met her future husband, Gerald MacDonald, who passed away only four months prior to her and together they had three children and raised them in Colorado. Phyllis was an exceptional mother and the kind of person who would do whatever it took to make sure that you had what you needed. Phyllis was exceptionally proud of her three children, Corey, Todd and Cassie MacDonald.

After Corey and Todd got married to their beautiful wives Brittany and Samantha, Phyllis became a grandmother to four children, Hannah, Madison, Nathan and Danielle. She enjoyed crafting with her grandchildren and watching them play.

In her spare time, Phyllis had many hobbies and interests. For many years she worked as a troop and unit manager for the Girl Scouts of America, dedicating thousands of hours to helping others. She enjoyed crafting, collecting sea shells, digging into genealogy and was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also enjoyed long drives, a good TV show, listening to her favorite band Pentatonix and watching the Broncos play every Sunday.

Phyllis’s family and close friends will gather for a Celebration of Life in Windsor, Colorado to share stories and memories of her. Phyllis Jean MacDonald will be deeply missed. If you had the opportunity to meet her, you know that she was a creative, caring mother who loved life.

I only met Phyllis a handful of times while in Colorado, but she was always very kind and talkative. My grandma and aunt nan loved her dearly, and Phyllis would regularly check in on my aunt Nan the last months of her life and that meant the world to her (and me) ❤️
I am sorry to hear of her passing, and am sending the family love ❤️

I met Phyllis when we were neighbors in Ft. Collins. Her boys were friends with my son. We were all young poor parents at the time. We’d get together and play cards( because it was free) and our kids would play.
We would laugh and laugh. I just remember how much fun we had.
Ohmygoodness when Phyllis found out she was Pregnant! Jerry was a bit freaked.(He was getting old) but Phyllis was just ecstatic. And then when Cassie was born, I think she couldn’t believe she had a girl. She was such a good mom.
She will be missed.

My mom was the best mom in the world. She was always there for me for a phone call, a long drive and a talk and was the strongest woman I have ever met. She overcame so much in her life to build a better life for me. I love you mom.
