Obituary
Dr. Peter Harold Waxer, born on November 21, 1942, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, and son of Percy and Jessie Waxer, peacefully passed away in his sleep on August 31, 2024, in Newmarket, Ontario, surrounded by family. He was the devoted husband of Katherine; father to Lise (pre-deceased); Danielle (Stephen); Matthew (Christine); Meichen (Roxanne); Gillian (Luke); and grandfather to Nathaniel; Jamie; Laura; John; and expecting another granddaughter, Madeline, in the new year.
Peter loved his family and friends with his whole heart, forming a special bond with each person in his life. Active in his community into his senior years, he was always present at Trisan Centre’s gym, where he affectionately called his friends “my fellow gym rats.” He connected with people over food, music, language, culture, fitness—especially swimming and kayaking—and travel.
A psychologist by profession and retired associate professor of psychology at York University. He was remembered fondly in the academic community. Peter was a curious intellectual who spoke many languages and was a brilliant guitarist—classical Spanish guitar, to be exact. He had a brief foray into pottery, was accomplished in Judo and Aikido, an excellent cook, and a kayaking enthusiast. He and his wife Katherine traveled extensively and took pride in their pastime of antiquing. His presence was constant, often as the supporting and witty character in the background. Peter took joy in sharing meals and the great outdoors with those he loved.
May his memory be a blessing.
