To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.
Obituary
Peter Hung Nuygen, 60, of Newport Beach, California, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2026. He was surrounded by his family and close friends. To all who knew him, Peter was a radiant force—warm, loyal, consistent, vivacious, hospitable, intelligent, and hilarious. He loved to travel the world to experience new cultures and cuisines. His most recent favorite places to visit were Japan and South Korea.
Born in Dalat, Vietnam, on November 14, Peter was a life-long Christian who accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He volunteered in several capacities at his local church and was involved with a Bible Study small group. Through this, he made deep connections and forged lasting friendships with a core group of friends. Peter had a deep love for all animals and was a volunteer at the Orange County animal shelter. There he met a small, stray dog whom he adopted and named Oliver. Peter took excellent care of Oliver, and they were buddies.
Peter was raised in Wheaton, Illinois, where his family built a new life after leaving Vietnam. The family was extremely tight knit. As the eldest of four children, Peter embodied all the characteristics of a big brother—strength, protectiveness, and leadership. He excelled in academics and graduated from North Central College, with a BA, and DePaul University with an MBA. Peter’s professional work in the pharmaceutical industry spanned over three decades, including roles in clinical research, compliance, sales, and management.
He lived his life as a testament to John 17:3, “And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” He made a profound and lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know and love him. Peter is survived by his parents, Anthony Hoang and Annette PhuongHoa and his siblings—Mathieu, Marcus Vu (Sheryl), and Jacqueline (Kevin). He fiercely loved and laughed with his nephew and two nieces--Lan, Patrick, and Natalie--of whom he was extremely proud.
A funeral service and celebration of life for Peter will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina on a date in the coming months. Family and dear friends will be informed of the details. Peter will be placed in eternal rest at St. Francis of Assisi Church. He is now at peace in the arms of his Savior.
