Obituary
Margaret Rose Eastman was born on January 9, 1937 in Orenco, Oregon. She was first named Deanna after the actress Deanna Durbin, but her name was later changed to Margaret after one of her dad’s relatives, which shortly thereafter became the nickname Peggy. Her parents, Jack and Rosa Eastman, raised Peggy and her older brother, Junior, in Hillsboro. Junior died on December 5, 1945 when he was hit by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle.
As they were both accomplished roller skaters, Peggy met her husband, Clyde, at the Shute Park Skating Rink after he returned to the area upon his honorable discharge from the service. They soon fell in love and were married on May 27, 1955 after her graduation from high school.
They went on to have three children, Brian, Jackie and Linda. They were both very active in their children’s lives, whether through sports, music, or family camping trips and BBQs. Peggy also enjoyed the revolving door of friends and relatives, and it wasn’t long before her kids’ friends would come over to the house just to hang out with Peggy, whether the kids were home or not! She was also active in the community as her daughters’ Girl Scout leader and made many friends selling Avon products to the gals in the neighborhood. This is in addition to her bowling league and continuing to roller skate and taking Hungarian classes, etc. After a few other jobs including Montgomery Ward, she worked until retirement at the Washington County Federal Credit Union. She continued working at the Fire Department for years after retirement because she thoroughly enjoyed the people.
Her zest for life and adventure took her to places such as Denver, Key West, Atlanta, Boston, Seattle, Vancouver BC, and all over the Oregon coast. Probably most memorable was when she traveled to England and Hungary to research her heritage and see her parents’ birthplaces as well as to visit relatives she had never met. She and her daughter, Linda, also made sure to include many different excursions along the way enjoying (and making friends with) wildlife, going on a hot air balloon ride, and even reserving an Alaska cruise that ended being cancelled due to the pandemic.
When she was at home, her joy came from her family, friends, pets, and grandchildren.
Due to a minor accident in early 2024, she was sent to EmPres Rehab where she got worse, not better. This prompted her daughters to do everything in their power to get her back home to recover in a much happier and more comfortable environment. Over the course of the next year, and with the help of some wonderful people and her own determination and hard work, she made huge progress on her recovery and began loving life again.
Unfortunately, Peggy passed away on June 1, 2025 due to heart complications.
Peggy is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren (as well as her cat, Max). We know that her beloved dog, Daisy, who predeceased her, has been ever so patiently (or anxiously) awaiting her arrival in heaven.
