Obituary

Margaret Rose Eastman was born on January 9, 1937 in Orenco, Oregon. She was first named Deanna after the actress Deanna Durbin, but her name was later changed to Margaret after one of her dad’s relatives, which shortly thereafter became the nickname Peggy. Her parents, Jack and Rosa Eastman, raised Peggy and her older brother, Junior, in Hillsboro. Junior died on December 5, 1945 when he was hit by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle.

As they were both accomplished roller skaters, Peggy met her husband, Clyde, at the Shute Park Skating Rink after he returned to the area upon his honorable discharge from the service. They soon fell in love and were married on May 27, 1955 after her graduation from high school.

They went on to have three children, Brian, Jackie and Linda. They were both very active in their children’s lives, whether through sports, music, or family camping trips and BBQs. Peggy also enjoyed the revolving door of friends and relatives, and it wasn’t long before her kids’ friends would come over to the house just to hang out with Peggy, whether the kids were home or not! She was also active in the community as her daughters’ Girl Scout leader and made many friends selling Avon products to the gals in the neighborhood. This is in addition to her bowling league and continuing to roller skate and taking Hungarian classes, etc. After a few other jobs including Montgomery Ward, she worked until retirement at the Washington County Federal Credit Union. She continued working at the Fire Department for years after retirement because she thoroughly enjoyed the people.

Her zest for life and adventure took her to places such as Denver, Key West, Atlanta, Boston, Seattle, Vancouver BC, and all over the Oregon coast. Probably most memorable was when she traveled to England and Hungary to research her heritage and see her parents’ birthplaces as well as to visit relatives she had never met. She and her daughter, Linda, also made sure to include many different excursions along the way enjoying (and making friends with) wildlife, going on a hot air balloon ride, and even reserving an Alaska cruise that ended being cancelled due to the pandemic.

When she was at home, her joy came from her family, friends, pets, and grandchildren.

Due to a minor accident in early 2024, she was sent to EmPres Rehab where she got worse, not better. This prompted her daughters to do everything in their power to get her back home to recover in a much happier and more comfortable environment. Over the course of the next year, and with the help of some wonderful people and her own determination and hard work, she made huge progress on her recovery and began loving life again.

Unfortunately, Peggy passed away on June 1, 2025 due to heart complications.

Peggy is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren (as well as her cat, Max). We know that her beloved dog, Daisy, who predeceased her, has been ever so patiently (or anxiously) awaiting her arrival in heaven.

We miss you so much! You are in our thoughts every day. I am who I am because you were my mother.

My mom was my best friend for my entire life. She and I shared everything and did and planned to have so many adventures together. This is the biggest loss I have experienced and I'm not sure how I'll get through it but I am beyond thankful that I had her for as long as I did!

My family was lucky to have Peggy (&Clyde) as neighbors for over 10 years. Best Neighbors ever. Always so kind to my family. We remained close friends after we moved with many trips to Hales for dinner. Only the fondest memories that we will never forget!

OK so Linda wasn't the only one that mom sewed for. This was my Christmas outfit and I don't think I took it off for three weeks. When mom forced me to take it off so she could wash it, I stayed in my underwear until it was done so I could put it on again. Hmm, I wonder why mom didn't make herself one to match like Linda.

You'll hear the story of our wedding in Mexico and it's centered on Mom enjoying her margaritas but based on this picture, I don't think she was the only one!...

My grandma and me at my college graduation. She loved to celebrate her grandchildren. We miss her and love her dearly.

When we lost our mother we lost a piece of who we are. We lost the person whose story provides the beginning of ours. We miss you!

I took care of Peggy for a bit under a year, until mid-May 2025. In my line of work they tell you not to get too close to the people you take care of, but this was impossible with Peggy. She was one of the warmest souls I've ever been given the privilege to get to know, and she accepted everything about me so easily. I will aways fondly remember watching The Lone Ranger with her, making mashed potato soup, sharing embroidery, talking about renaissance fares, and watching her heal and get her glow back. We shared stories of our lives and dreams and loved ones, we shared comfort, and tears, and laughs. Over time, she grew to feel like a grandmother to me, and I hope I remembered to tell her this but I think she knew anyway. Her absence has been painfully noticed, and she will always be missed, but I'm so grateful I ever got to meet her. I wish I could have known her sooner.

Peggy was my neighbor for 7 years and a friend for just over a decade. I used to help take out her garbage and we'd have fun weekly chats (along with Daisy and Max). I'm so grateful to have had her in my life. Thanks for the lovely memories, Peggy (and Linda!).

These smiles when she would wrinkle her nose and sometimes wave her hand in front of her face like "nonsense" or "go away with that" or whatever - when she would really laugh or really enjoy the humor (& I've got so many examples that I won't even try to share right here) are one of my absolute favorite things. Well and also the "attitude" faces which we all knew she had plenty of...

In case Randi (Mom's granddaughter) doesn't share this - she took Mom's drawing and got it tattooed on her arm. Mom was SO touched and in tears plus it was her iPad home page ever since. What a tribute!

She enjoyed sewing and was super good at it making us a ton of clothes. Not sure I enjoyed the whole matching bit though...
