Obituary
Pearl Goodman, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, businesswoman, philanthropist, and patron of the arts, passed away on August 16, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, intellectual curiosity, and unwavering commitment to her family and community.
Pearl shared an extraordinary 73-year marriage with her beloved husband, Dr. Stanley Goodman. Together they built a remarkable life founded on love, partnership, and shared values. They raised three children: Laurie Goodman (Mark Perwien), Arnold Goodman z”l (Merle Goodman), and Nanette Goodman (Dan Mont). Although they endured the heartbreaking loss of their son Arnold, his memory remained a cherished part of their family. Pearl took immense pride in her eight grandchildren: Louis Perwien (Pam Katz), Arthur Perwien, Ben Perwien and Pam Perwien (Ben Nicholas) Perwien, Sam Goodman (Anne Scharmann) and Dori Goodman (Michael Krzysko), Alex Mont and Simon Mont (Joanna Kaufman). Her six great-grandchildren (Freddy, Maya, Elise and Jimmy Perwien, Cooper Goodman and Lev Mont-Kaufman) brought her endless joy.
Pearl was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to immigrant parents. A gifted student, she attended Brooklyn College, where she graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors and met Stanley. She began her career as a teacher, bringing her love of learning and education to the classroom. They moved to South Florida in 1959, Pearl focused on raising their family, Stanley practiced medicine, and together they developed a business investing in real estate. Pearl and Stanley’s success allowed them to give back generously to the community they loved.
Pearl and Stanley were avid philanthropists, believing deeply that their good fortune carried with it a responsibility to help others. They supported numerous organizations throughout South Florida, with a special commitment to Goodman Jewish Family Services, whose mission of helping individuals and families in need reflected their own values of compassion, dignity, and community. They also made significant contributions to their synagogue and to a variety of cultural and arts organizations, strengthening the civic and cultural life of Ft Lauderdale.
One of Pearl's greatest passions was art. Together with Stanley, she assembled one of the country's most celebrated private collections of Latin American art. Their collection was gifted to NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, ensuring that future generations will benefit from their lifelong appreciation of art and culture.
Pearl's life was a testament to the idea that success is measured not only by what we achieve, but by what we give. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness and generosity.
May her memory be a blessing.
Funeral services will be held at Temple Kol Ami Emanuel, 8200 Peters Road, Plantation, FL on Sunday August 23, 2026, beginning promptly at 12:30. This will be followed by an internment at Evergreen Cemetery and Shiva at the Synagogue from 4-7. Services at 6:30.
