"Under heaven, one family."

Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pauline Chong Yee Lowe, a remarkable woman whose life was defined by love, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to others. Surrounded by family, she peacefully passed away at the age of 99.
Pauline was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Frank Lowe. She is survived by her children Sylvia (Dave) Weishaar, Ron (Jeannie) Lowe, Arlene (Mike) Molina, Martin (Mina) Lowe, and Leland (Priscilla) Lowe, her granddaughters Jennifer (Adam) Nguyen and Makena Lowe, and her great-grandsons Aiden Nguyen and Damian Nguyen.
About her
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Lowe, Pauline was the foundational partner to their civic efforts. Together, they unselfishly shared with their community their culture, love of nature, and their belief in the importance of teachers. The establishment of Santa Clara County’s Teacher Recognition Day, an annual celebration, was based on their love of their culture that regarded teachers as the “engineers of our future generations.”
Pauline was also the guiding force behind their creation of the Chinese Cultural Garden within Overfelt Gardens Park in San Jose. Pauline innately embraced the idea that all people are interconnected, and when she learned that this principle was part of Confucius’ teachings, she was delighted that the saying, 天下一家 “Under Heaven, One Family” would serve as the greeting to all park visitors as it solidified her belief that everyone should be treated with kindness and compassion. Pauline served as a docent for many years, which enabled her to share the story behind the creation of the cultural garden and how it was influenced by the philosophy of Confucius.
Beyond her commitment to her community, Pauline demonstrated her adventurous side when she took the first international flight offered from San Jose Airport to Japan on her own to explore a country she had only heard about. She also earned her pilot license, demonstrating her fearlessness and courage.
Pauline had many interests. A thoughtful artist, she loved watercolor as her medium of choice, and her love of nature was often reflected in her artwork. Pauline also loved knitting and sewing and never hesitated to teach anyone who wanted to learn. While raising her five children, Pauline opened her home to four foster children in need. Nurturing was one of her virtues.
Pauline lived with joy. She loved laughter, and those around her were always with a smile, even through the darkest of times. She had the ability to connect with people and patiently listened with empathy and comfort. Her uplifting spirit was one of the quintessential hallmarks of who she was.
Pauline was a remarkable woman whose life was defined by love, kindness, and unwavering commitment to others. Though Pauline is no longer with us, her gentle spirit and legacy of service will continue to guide and inspire future generations.
