Obituary
Paulette Harper fell asleep in death on Monday September 23, 2024 after a 2-month battle with illness.
Paulette was born on September 7, 1945 to Mary Elizabeth Marshall and William Stanley in Philadelphia, PA. Her family moved to Norfolk, VA when she was about a year old, where she lived for 78 years. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and later married Milton Lee Harper. During their brief union, they welcomed their only child together, Nathaniel in 1969. She worked diligently to raise him as a single mother with the help of her sisters Pat and Mary. As a dedicated mother, Paulette provided for her son by working the night shift as a CNA at DePaul Hospital. She took on double shifts when necessary, and later retired after 47 years of working secularly.
Paulette had the privilege of being taught about Jehovah God and came to cherish the Bible truths she learned. In 1987, Paulette symbolized her dedication to Jehovah God by water baptism. She loved spending time with friends in the Monticello and later Ingleside congregations in Norfolk. She enjoyed her days sharing Bible truths with others from door to door as well as informally. As a publisher she enjoyed working with sisters like Mabel Isler, Shirley White and Sis Eley.
If you knew Paulette, you know she enjoyed listening to her music, and watching ‘her children,’ as she referred to them on her favorite show “Little House on the Prairie,” while having some sweets or candy. She was very caring. She always wanted to share what she had with others. Shirley Wilson would mention how she appreciated that Paulette would regularly check on her ‘Daddy’ when he was hospitalized. She did this though he was not one of her patients. Her dear friend, Shirley White was a loyal companion, as they did many assignments together on the meetings.
Paulette was preceded in death by her parents Mary Elizabeth Marshall and William Stanley, sister Barbara Jackson, and brother Nathaniel Alexander Marshall. She is survived by her son Nathaniel and daughter-in-law Alenda Harper, her sisters Pat Davis, Mary Durell (husband Tony), and Louise Askew, as well as countless other family and friends who loved her dearly.
We await the time when Jehovah will resurrect her in the “new world” to come, where death will be no more - Revelation 21:3,4.
Words from Nathaniel:
“If you knew Paulette in any of the congregations she attended, we’d like to thank the friends for coming up to say hello to her. You probably encouraged her and did not know it, so thank you.”
The family of Paulette Harper would like to thank the friends for all your prayers, words of comfort, cards, and gifts. Your love has been a great source of encouragement to us. Also, we’d like to thank the medical staff who looked after Paulette.
