Obituary
Patricia Sue Hinman Chiles, 69, passed away on July 14, 2026. She was born on October 6, 1956, in Springfield, Illinois.
Patty was a graduate of Lanphier High School in Springfield and Blackburn College. Patty received masters degree certification in educational technology and in instructional techniques for math and science from the University of Illinois. Throughout her life, Patty was known for having a great sense of humor and an outgoing personality. During school in Springfield, she was active in various organizations such as the Lanphier pom-pom squad and she played softball during the summer. The family is blessed to have a number of pictures of Patty climbing trees, celebrating birthdays, and playing with friends like her cousins Kim Jones and Greg Lucas.
She devoted her professional life to education as an elementary teacher with Springfield Public Schools, District 186. At the time of her retirement in 2020, she was a second-grade teacher at Laketown Elementary School. Throughout her career, she was dedicated to helping young learners develop foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. She was known for her commitment to her students and the positive impact she made on the children and families that she served. Following her retirement, Patty moved to Inverness, Florida, where she enjoyed serving as a substitute teacher in the local schools.
Family was the center of Patty's life. She was devoted to her sons and took great pride in the lives of her grandchildren. She also shared a close bond with her sisters, who remained a constant source of love and support throughout her life. Patty‘s parents, William and Barbara Hinman, and her sister Marcia Ann Hinman Soper predeceased her.
She is survived by her sons, Lee Chiles and his children Rachael and Ayden of Inverness, Florida, and Andrew Chiles and his wife Nina and her daughter Victoria of Inverness, Florida; her sisters, Sheryl Hinman of Galesburg, IL and Debbie Dickson and her husband Brian and their son Tyler of Springfield, IL and other relatives and friends who will miss her greatly.
