Obituary

With deep love and gratitude for her long life, it is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Palmerinda "Palmy" Banchs, who departed this life peacefully on December 9, 2025.

Born in Puerto Rico on September 23, 1928, Palmy lived a long and meaningful life marked by her strong faith, and a generous spirit. A retired seamstress, her talents extended far beyond her craft–she was an exceptional cook, a gifted storyteller, and a comforting presence to all who knew her.

Palmy was the mother of six children, grandmother to sixteen grandchildren, and a great-grandmother to numerous great-grandchildren. She was known affectionately as a flirt–with unmistakable charm, a playful wit, and a natural elegance. Palmy had a zest for life and enjoyed being out and about, pocketbook in hand, adorned with jewelry, and ready for an adventure.

Palmy was a good neighbor and an important presence in her community. Her warmth, kindness, and readiness to connect with others made her a cherished figure to those who lived around her. She approached her faith with openness and sincerity, willing to worship in any church where she could pray and feel close to God.

A private cremation will be held in accordance with the family's wishes. A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will take place at a later date, with details to be announced.

Though we will miss her deeply, Palmy leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and grace. Her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

Grandma, there are countless things I will miss about you: your poetic euphemisms, your unbelievable appetite (I never understood where you put it all), your keen ability to read people, your Spanglish, and the way you’d place your hand in the fold of my arm whenever we walked somewhere. But most of all, I will miss our conversations over coffee. There was never a question you wouldn’t answer, and I could listen to you for days! Thank you for all the pearls of wisdom. Bendición, Grandma 💕
