Aunty Shola, my dear Godmother, you truly taught and led by example. I'm so lucky to have had such a loving, attentive and wise role model. Thank you for all that you did. You were a constant, warm presence in my life (no matter the physical distance between us) and I already miss you greatly. I will especially miss hearing your stories, always told with hilarious interjections and witty comments. You leave us with lots of cherished memories. I know your legacy of generosity and kindness continues shaping so many of us.

You were the best. So reserved, quiet, funny, elegant yet so humble. Your kindness, generosity & selflessness knew no bounds.

Life moves in ways we don’t always understand, but I trust that God has a plan. You will be remembered with love, and your kindness will live on in the hearts of those you touched.

My dear beloved friend Sola Onabiyi. I recall all the good times and memories of the times we robbed minds together on various issues and challenges in our lives. I was gutted when I heard the news of your passing on. May your lovely and caring soul continue to rest in the bossom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

I still find myself calling your name. We sat next to each other in the notorious Form 1D at GSGS & lived across the street from each other. You were gentle, kind, caring, observant, elegant, soft spoken & faithful friend. Your ability to recall stories was second to none. You fought with bravery & dignity till the very end. May God comfort & sustain your family and loved ones. Rest in perfect peace dearest Shola.

Just wanted to say what a lovely person Shola was. In the nearly 50 years that I knew her, I don't recall her saying anything bad about anyone, I don't recall her being dismissive or rude to others. She was always so smiley and kind. I'll remember her cheerful face and her beautiful smile, I'll remember the way she always waved her hands and fingers so elegantly when she talked. Rest in peace, wonderful sister. Till we meet again.

May the gentle soul of the faithful departed Sis Olusola continue to rest in the bossom of her maker till the resurrection morning when we shall meet to part no more in Jesus name. My dear friend,
I am heartbroken to say goodbye to someone so dear to me. I first met Shirley over 30 years ago when she was working as a Housing Officer at the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. From the very start, she was warm, kind, and full of life. Over the years, we shared so many fun times, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Our bond strengthened and I referred to her as 'Shirlorizm Shirlo', while she called me 'Omonikki, Princess of the Ondo Kingdom.'
Shirley faced her illness with incredible bravery, remaining prayerful and always thinking of others, even in her most difficult moments. Her strength, kindness, and unwavering faith were truly inspiring. She had a generous heart and a beautiful spirit, always bringing joy to those around her.
I will forever cherish our friendship and the memories we created. Though she is gone, her love and light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew her.

I met Sola in the United Kingdom, through my cousin, Yinka Oduekun, and we became friends. We looked out for each other after she moved back to Nigeria.

Sola was a beautiful soul with a heart of gold. A very considerate, kind, gentle, and firm person.

I thank God for the opportunity to have spent quality time with her in the last 3 years during my holidays in England.

Sola, the impact you made in my life was immense as you taught me several lessons of life, most especially in the area of giving. You gave and emptied yourself of everything.

Sola, your loving memory will forever live on in our hearts. Rest in peace.

Shola you always wanted your name to be spelt with the ‘h’ so it could be pronounced properly. It is with great sadness and numbness that I write this tribute as such a beautiful soul has gone too soon. You were always so thoughtful remembering everybody’s birthday so generous always giving gifts and always in touch no matter where you were in the world. You were so brave and stoical in your fight with the dreadful illness you took it all in your stride and did not prevent it from living your life to your final days. You still maintained your sense of humour. It’s a testament to your generosity kindness and love that so many friends and family rallied round to care for you in your final days. We thank God for your life and I pray that you rest in perfect eternal peace. Heaven has definitely gained a beautiful soul.

Ebimi (as we called each other), words fail me at this time as I am still trying to understand your demise.

We have known each other since 1973 when we started our journey together as Form 1 students in Eva Adelaja Secondary School Bariga, coincidentally we also come from the same town so we had a lot to always talk about.

Some friendships leave an everlasting mark on our hearts, not because of their length, but because of their depth. Today, I honour and remember my childhood friend, Sola, a soul so rare and beautiful.

Sola was a person of few words but carried a wisdom beyond years. Quiet, yet brilliant—someone whose mind was as sharp as it was kind. Always lending a helping hand, she never hesitated to assist others. There was never a moment of pride or hesitation—just a pure heart always willing to give.

I spoke with you early in the year, it was a long and lively conversation, you told me you were going on a journey but you will be in touch, I did not know that would be our last time to talk.

You may be gone, my dear friend, but you will never be forgotten. Thank you for the memories that still lingers in my heart.

It was very sad and heartbreaking to hear of your passing, but we are consoled that you are now with our Heavenly Father.

Thank you for being so kind to me and taking me as a daughter during my youth service. I remember walking into Sigisville Solicitors with my posting letter, you accepted me despite the Law firm’s preference for a male corper. That was a life changing and historical moment for me. You were so caring that you always dropped me off on your way home after work and made sure I was fine. In my 10 years of knowing you, you’ve never omitted to send a birthday message. It makes me sad to know that I wouldn’t see your kind message this year.

With all of these, and being so kind to a corper you had never met, I only imagine how kind and gracious you were to many others.

You’ll forever be remembered for your kindness, generosity and gentleness. Rest well dear Barr. Shirley!!

You were a doting aunt, one with no bad sides—pure in heart and generous in spirit. Writing this has been incredibly difficult for me, as I keep replaying our last few conversations, cherishing every word. In the past week alone, I have gone back to read our messages hundreds of times, holding on to every memory, every exchange, as if they could somehow bring you back.

I have such wonderful memories of you, dear Auntie, through every stage of my life until your passing. You were a constant source of love, warmth, and kindness. I truly believe that God has welcomed you with open arms, for you lived a life that reflected His love and presence so beautifully.

As Dr. Myles Munroe once said, “The greatest tragedy in life is not death, but a life without purpose.” “Die empty.” These words perfectly describe who you were—you poured yourself out in service, love, and generosity, giving endlessly to those around you until the very end.

Shola you are/were one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met. I remember our first after I met Sola as well as the times the children would visit you. They still remember as 30 years plus the goodies you would give them. It shows the kind of person you were.

Your quiet cheek, smile, generosity, thoughtfulness and kindness are part of your unique qualities that I will miss. Oh, I forgot the part of you being stubborn also in a lovely quiet manner. Our birthdays were just a day apart, and I’ll miss our back-to-back phone calls, wishing each other a happy birthday. It was something I looked forward to every year, I felt it brought us closer.
I’ll never forget how you always took the time to listen to our problems and help in any way you could, or how you always thought of what to bring back for us when you traveled. I know you loved and cared for us deeply, like we were kids, and that love and kindness is something I’ll always hold on to.

I met you several years ago through  your cousin Yinka Oduekun whom l had known previously. We became good friends. The joke when l came visiting was Yinka would say l came to see you not her. You were a true friend indeed and l will miss you dearly. Thank you very much for your friendship. It meant alot to me.
