O'Neill Patrick Quinlan

Obituary

On Monday, June 24th, 2024, at the age of 82, O’Neill Patrick Quinlan Jr, loving husband, brother, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family. He had courageously fought a long battle with heart failure, and did so with resilience, humor and determination.

Friends and family are invited to say a final goodbye to Neill at Eisenhower Chapel (293 Roslyn Street) on July 13th at 11:00 am with a reception and lunch to follow at Wings Over the Rockies (7711 E Academy Blvd). The service will also be available for live streaming (link to be provided). If you are able to attend the reception please  help us plan for the luncheon by RSVPing at http://evite.me/7bHVhAxs1G.

Neill was born on September 29, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to Margaret and O’Neill Quinlan. He married Ellen Quinlan on January 3, 1970 and together they embarked on a 52-year journey, relocating over 25 times throughout the US and Germany, bringing their three children along on many adventures. He retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1989 after 23 years of service to his country.

Neill loved being with friends and giving back to his community. He volunteered for decades with the Kiwanis Club. He championed projects both local and international through this organization and cooked endless meals with Ellen for local homeless shelters.

Beyond his volunteerism, Neill had the gift for gab. He was a dedicated friend and mentor. He took many people under his wing and shared his life experiences, world view and prodded thus to set goals and achieve those goals.

He was a loving ‘Opa’ to eight grandchildren. Quinn and Soren were blessed to have him for so much of their lives. Even as his mobility waned, he would uber out to family dinners and games to support his grandkids.

Neill was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Quinlan and is survived by his children, Patrick Quinlan (his wife Kyla and their children, Huck, Poe, Ama, and Fae), daughter, Stefanie Tettero (her husband Bob and their children, Quinn and Soren) son, Marc Quinlan (his wife Molly and their children, Finley and Brooks) and sisters, MaryAnn Kendall (George), Marge and Kathy.

His family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions could be made to Colorado Feeding Kids (https://www.cofeedingkids.org/) or House of the Poor (https://casadelospobresusa.com).

Dear Stephanie, Patrick and Marc with families,

we like to send you our deepest condolences!

It was sad to hear about your loss. Neill is now reunited with Ellen in heaven.
He and Ellen were so happy when they visited us to the wedding of Hans-Jörg some years ago and visiting Augsburg on the next day.
I have still in my mind my vacation in 1995 when Ellen and Neill invited me to Denver for six weeks and he took his vacation this year to show me South Dakota, Mount Rushmore,… ; took me to a game at the new Coors Field, to a rodeo in Cheyenne and to the Rocky Mountains for a trip.

We wish you all the best and God’s blessing for this time and the loss you had now.

Many greetings and regards from
Wilhelm, Martin, Christian, and Hans-Jörg and family

O’Neill was not just a colleague, but a friend and confidant. We shared stories about the military, and life in general that even today I hold very dearly. He will be missed by many, my condolences to all his family and friends.
