Obituary

Noel Murphy of Rush, Co. Dublin, 74, took his own life on 18th October 2025 in Ellesmere Port, UK.

Noel is survived by his wife of 43 years, Breda, his sons David and Sean & his Grandchildren Riley, Shea, Cian and Orla.
Also his sisters, Margaret, Julie, Lorraine and Denise and his brothers John and Josh. He now joins his parents, Richard and Sheila along with his siblings Claire and Micheal.

Noel was known for his humour and continual support for all around him (and possibly the odd story) and was loved by all his family and friends. His passing will leave a void in all of those who knew him.

Noel's Funeral will be held in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Enfield Road, Ellesmere Port [CH65 8BY] on 18/11/25 at 11:00am followed by a burial at Overpool Cemetery [CH66 1LL]. All are then invited to join us for a few farewell drinks in Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel & Spa [CH66 9PB].

In light of the nature of Noels passing the family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation is made to the Samaritans who listen and support those who are struggling to cope.

"GET OFF MY FECKIN WALL!!" was the message you left in our wedding day memory book for me so it only feels right to add it here. I couldn't even guess how many times I heard it over the last 30 odd years but it makes me smile everytime I think about it.
I spent so much time at your home growing up and you and Breeda have always made me feel like one of the family.
Noel, you always knew how to make people feel like they mattered, it was a true gift; you will be so missed x

What a Great Man, We used to stand outside the Phoenix having a smoke, a laugh, having the banter on a Sunday Night.
I’ll miss the handshake when we bumped into each into each other in town.
God Bless You Noel.
My thoughts are with Breda and Family xx

Only knew Noel for around 12 months. I could be feeling really low and he could turn that around with one of his amazing hugs and his infectious smile. He would have us howling laughing with his jokes and stories. I fully believe that god only takes the best. Rest in peace my friend, you are missed so much 💜

Noel… I listened to a poet reading her work about grief just last week . She said grief comes from love , love comes first then you have to welcome grief to your table . We all felt loved by you Noel . You were a true Grandad to Felix who will cherish growing up with you in his life .
Cap, braces, jeans, checked shirt and a hug to hold you so tight .. always in our hearts . So much love xxx

Missing you already Noel! I can still hear you for some reason. I will forever miss our little natters over the backyard wall, even the pub telling one of your many stories. I could nip the the loo and we'd carry on when I got back 😅. I am so pleased being your neighbour of 34 years and watch how proud you were of David and Sean growing up into fine young gentlemen. Also the extension with your grandchildren showing them all the love you possessed inside for them and Breda. One beautiful family that I am privileged to be part of. I will be always be there for Breda and the boys when they need me xxx🥰💔

I had the honor of meeting and spending many days with Noel as I worked behind the bar and even on my days off. Such a fresh and loving smile even on dark days. He would always give me a massive hug and ask me “how the feck I am”. So many laughs and story’s and brought joy too everyone around him. Memories of him dancing around the pub and busting a move will live on in my memories. I will miss him deeply and still look for him. My deepest thoughts too all his family and friends ❤️

Over 25 years ago, I met someone who was so kind, caring, who always lent an ear without judgement. We have shared so much over the years. I haven't had many hugs, that truly felt like they were truly fixing all my broken pieces but you always managed to do that. For years I was so blessed to call you my friend, you were my beautiful Irish friend 💚 only friday we shared a hug like so many times before, you told me how you loved me and my Ruby Mae ❤️ I cant believe i wont hear "how the feck are you" again 💔. Life wont be the same without you Noel 💔 my thoughts are with your Beautiful family who you have always loved and treasured so much 💔🥹 xxx

Myself and Helen had the pleasure of being introduced to Noel in 2019 and in that short time we became good friends, always had time for a chat and of course a story or 'two'. Banter was always great between, and he took it as well as he gave it out. Never saw Noel without a smile on his face. So, my friend, the William Jessop will not be in same without you joining us in the '22nd' corner, your laugh will never be forgotten, but at least we have some wonderful memories of you. Me and my uncle noel♥️from the day i was born i still remember now, he took me on like i was his own. He would be at the door to take me out in the pram and keep me all day long. Taking me to the allotment, on walks chatting away to me about the trees and the birds when i couldn’t even talk back. I love you so much uncle noel, i will forever look at you like a grandad to me. You will be so unbelievably missed and i couldn’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me and my family throughout my life xxxxxxxxx

Noel, been reflecting over the last few days since you passed, and from the Friday nights when you got home from work eating sweet and sour with you and Breda to then heading to the phoenix for a beer before Dave Sean and me would head out for the night! …. Advise / guidance & help over the years will always be something I will treasure, I honestly believe I’ve never shook the hand of another human being and literally felt the warmth and love come through the heels of someone’s feet… That is what I will miss the most ❤️❤️

Noel, you were one the warmest, kindest, funniest and genuine people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know.
I will always remember the last time we were together watching Liverpool lift the title along with Dave and Shea. It was a day filled with joy, happiness and laughter and this how I will always remember you.
It’s clear from all these messages how loved and respected you were by everyone who knew you and I personally will miss you very much.
You’ll never walk alone ♥️

Devastated to hear the news. My thoughts are with all the family.

I echo many of the comments people are writing, a warm, welcoming, funny and proud man who made you feel there is good in the world every time you spoke to him.

A true gentleman who will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

"HELLOOO MRR HOOWWWAAARRD!!!" I will forever be able to hear, through fond memory, the most heart-warming welcome I used to get whenever I was fortunate enough to be in the company of Noel.

It is truly impossible for me to put into words just how highly I respect, how much I love, and how much I will cherish the memories I have of this absolute Legend.

Noel - thank you from the bottom of my heart for passing on so many important life values to me through your fine example - starting with the importance of a good handshake! I do think you walked un-necessarily fast, but I'm willing to let that one slide ; ).

Goodnight and God bless - you were, are, and will forever be, one of my real life heroes xxx

One of my first memories your dad was when you were having your garden done in manor road and you used our back garden as access. Your dad out worked everyone else working that day, I remember just watching him in utter disbelief! All I kept saying to Alan was that man is a machine 💪😂
And then we cooked bbq and all sat together having drinks listening to his stories crying with laughter. We only knew him for a short time but we totally fell in love with him, it always made my day when I bumped into him and had a good natter. He was a legend. Love to you all xx

Noel, Liam and Riley - dancing the night away. Liam was so lucky to have the honour of calling Noel - ‘Grandad Noel’, and even 16 years later, that’s still who he is, and always will be, to him. The kindness Noel and Breda have always shown to me and my family will stay close to my heart forever. RIP Noel, you’re going to be incredibly missed 💚
