Obituary

Nathaniel Eugene Osborne (Bo), a cherished resident of Oakland, CA, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2025, at the age of 47. Born on June 28, 1977, Bo or Coach Nate was a beacon of love, integrity, and community service. His life was a testament to the power of kindness and an enduring commitment to helping others.

A proud graduate of CSU Stanislaus in 2000, Bo married his college sweetheart, Tamarra, in 2006. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around family and a shared love for their two children, who were the pride and joy of Bo’s life.

Nathaniel was known as a pillar of the community, deeply admired for his honesty, straightforward nature, and unwavering faith. He was a special education teacher with the Oakland Unified School District at Skyline High School and at his alma mater Castlemont High School. In this role his patience and empathy touched countless lives. As a dedicated baseball coach, Coach Nate instilled in his players the values of teamwork, perseverance, and respect, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bo was a passionate sports fan - a die hard Raiders fan -and an avid fisherman who found solace and joy in the peacefulness of it. His love for life was matched only by his generous spirit; he was always ready to lend a hand or offer support to those in need. Bo embodied the principle, "help who you can when you can," and his selflessness was felt throughout the community.

Family meant everything to Bo. He was an extraordinary son, brother, uncle, father, husband, family member and friend who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. Known affectionately as "Mr. Make It Happen," he had an uncanny ability to bring people together and make the seemingly impossible possible.

Nate’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the family he adored, and the values he upheld. His departure leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

A home going service to celebrate Bo's  life will be held on March 29, 2025 at 11:30 am, at Beebe Memorial Cathedral- 3900 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA . A reception will follow the service at Beebe Memorial.

In honoring Bo’s/ Coach Nate’s memory, the family encourages acts of generosity and kindness as he would have wished.

Forever In Our Hearts

Some people say that we must move on without you
You might as well tell us to breathe without lungs
Or tell the birds in the sky to fly without wings
Imagine telling the daylight to appear without the Sun
Yet still you tell us that we must move on without our Hero
Who was our heart in human form
He was our pillar, our protector, our backbone
In this moment we choose not to be strong
We have a right to cry
While tears of pain and sorrow may fall from our eyes
We refuse to drown in these puddle of tears
We know eventually we will rise
As we slowly learn to walk on water
Just like our God
For this is our storm and we will survive
For we know the storm clouds will one day suddenly fade
And sweet memories of love and joy
Will one day forever triumph over sorrow
As we daily ask God for strength to borrow
For it is he who holds all our tomorrows
You will never be forgotten
You were always there
In world where pride and vulnerability are at odds,
And they often collide
In world men don’t always have the permission to cry
We will cry tears of joy and gratitude for you
For we witness you juggle the responsibilities
Of being a Husband, a Father, and a Man
Yet still when the world was on your shoulders
And the cares of this life seem too much to bear
You never wavered, you never abandoned us
You remained a pillar strength
So, we will honor you always
In a world where Fathers are sometimes taken for granted
We will honor you always
In a world where Fathers sometimes neglect
The seeds that they have planted
You were always there
So, we will honor you always
We will remember you always
So, as days turn into weeks
And weeks turn into months
And months turn into years
We will love you always
For you loved us unconditionally
But what is love
Love is more than a feeling
Love is more than words
Love is giving of yourself
So, that others may live
Which is exactly what you did
We will keep your memory alive
As our hearts begin to find its way back on this journey called life
We have a feeling that everything is going to be alright
And we know that as time proceeds
One day our hearts will give us permission to no longer grieve
We will look up and smile in amazement
For we will have learned to breathe without lungs
The birds in sky will begin to fly without wings
And the daylight will suddenly appear without the sun
But while waiting for that day to come
We will honor you always
We will love you always
You will be forever in our hearts

Life is but a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow, but our deeds will live forever. Those that we leave behind will bear witness to the impact that we have had in their lives.

I heard Tamarra say that "Nate was an amazing husband; and that he told me that I was beautiful every day, he was my Superman"

So, ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. (Ephesians 5:28, KJV)

As I behold your sons (Niles and Hudson), they are living walking proof, that they were loved, taught and nurtured. They are strong, confident and sure. Your signature and essences are imprinted on their very being. They represent and carry you well. Through Gods divine wisdom and grace, Cousin Nate prepared his sons for this moment!

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. (Proverbs 4:1, KJV)

To the family are my prayer and condolences, I know this is very unexpected and all I know is that Bo was a true up standing, loving caring man that has always been a out going, active, kind, encouraging, joyous friend, always seeking to put a smile on your faces since we met in high school, when I was a cheerleader he was an athlete, Go Knights! and how we reconnected having our children playing for the Dynamites and Spartans, Bo left nothing but good memories where ever he was, and he will truly be missed but not forgotten.
God bless you and the family Tamara

The saying is true—it really does take a village to raise a child, and Sarah and I feel incredibly lucky to have had Nate as part of ours. Nate and CJ coached our oldest son, Eli, for several years at FSB, while our younger son, Marc, started tagging along as the team’s bat boy at just five years old.

Eli has always been an emotional player, and I’ll never forget how Nate showed up for him—with unwavering positivity, kindness, and just the right words to help him reset and refocus when he needed it most. That spirit of encouragement, joy, and love is something we should all carry with us every day.

Nate’s presence still lives on, especially on the baseball field. He’ll always be CJ’s partner out there—now coaching Marc’s team together and guiding them to their first championship.

I’ve known Bo well over 40 years. When I first met him I couldn’t believe he was a year younger than me. He was a confident person that loved life and always smiling. Definitely what they call an old soul. Bo wanted everybody to win at whatever they was doing. Wish we could have caught up chopped it up one last time because he will be truly missed.

The students, teachers, and staff of Classroom 303 are deeply saddened regarding the loss of Mr. Nate. Mr, Nate was a wonderful teacher, co-worker, and friend. He was an inspiration to all that knew him. We will miss his warm smile, and straightforward personality. It has been a joy and pleasure knowing him and working him. We will especially miss him at our annual cookout, He was a master on the grill.

We are all so sorry to hear this news. Our condolences to Nate's family and to you on the loss of your friend and colleague. I will always think of Nate coaching with CJ, one at first and and one at third, with CJ looking so serious and Nate with a big smile on face. You are totally right that the boys are all better people having been coached by Nate. Please let us know about funeral arrangements. I'm sure the FSB family will want to be there. The world is a little less brighter today.

We are so sorry to hear about Coach Nate's passing. Liam and Collin have loved playing for him and never had anything but great things to say about him as a coach and, more importantly, as a person. My own experience with him was the same. We are all so saddened by this. We will be sure to help however we can.

From the first day I met you we locked in. At that time I wasn't very trusting, but it was all positivity from day one. I saw the good in you from the very beginning. That was 15 years ago. From Spectrum to OUSD. Fishing trips to you making me eat Jade Palace for lunch. I'm going to miss you my Brother my Friend. The watering hole will never be the same

Man Man Man, where do I start or should I say where do we end. Honestly we don’t end, we have to continue cause that’s what you would want us to do!! I’ve braided your hair for about 5 years and I can say we argued about hair styles, you always told me what you wanted… lol but I always did differently. You would come back and tell me your wife was not happy taking it down lol (all them small braids you would say) and I always responded “well you want your hair braided or you want to be looking raggedy” you wouldn’t say nothing but “well I’m just telling you” and I would say “sit down shit I don’t have all day” lol then you would say “you ain’t gone keep talking to me like this”!!!. Then it was on to different designs and styles, at the start of every hair appt, we fussed about how you wanted it and I always said “you gon get what I give you” and at the end you didn’t say a word but “o yeah I can’t wait to go to work, they gon be on me”… To end this I want to say this is the ending to everyone beginning cause now we have to live without you and most of us don’t know how cause you was the piece to everyone puzzle! Sleep in Peace, Love Ro your Hair Stylist!!

Nate had a positive energy and love for baseball and the players who he guided. All of them are better people and players for knowing him. Nate was also the hub of his family. He took care of his mother until she passed and took care of his cousins, niece and nephews. When we talked it was never about what he needed but what he could do for others.
Hug your children and tell them you love them. Tomorrow is never promised.

Hi Ben,

Thank you so much for this devastating update. I know that so many of us have been praying, hoping, and sending thoughts to Nate and his family in our own ways since you first let us know what was happening.

This news is so incredibly sad - I am grateful for the time Coach Nate gave to the FSB program. Along with you and CJ, it is that care that makes it such a special place for so many of our boys to have grown up.

I am so sorry to hear this and can only imagine how hard it is for you. As I said many times, Coach Nate was an outstanding individual. I witnessed MANY occasions where he demonstrated leadership, compassion, patience and strength…… always showing his human side. I loved how he coached and the example he set for the kids-focused, intense, striving for excellent performances, always wanting to win, but always demonstrating good sportsmanship. I think I wrote to you about one particular episode where he and a co-coach took the temperature way down when things were getting pretty heated over an umpires calls. They strove to take charge and set the tone without getting us into a brawl or creating bad feelings.

I can only imagine what his family are going through. We would definitely like to contribute. Thanks for keeping us posted. Take care of yourself.

Words can't express the pain and sense I have right now having lost my brother. Nate was the first person who became my friend and then later my family when I moved here from Atlanta. From coaching to watching his to boys evolve into grown men, I enjoyed every minute becoming a part of your family. My prayers and condolences go out to his family immediate and otherwise. You will be missed but always loved for eternity!
Rest peacefully bro!

Any help that I can be, in here for you. I'll never forget Nate. From the first day you meet me you treated me like your family. Full of jokes, laughter and fun. The old folks would have called him "The Goodtime Cat", because you sure were. Rest in paradise my brother.
