On January 15th, 2025, a remarkable soul left this world. Her name was Nancy Ellen (née Klussman) Amyx. To us, she was Aunt Nancy.
Aunt Nancy was a UW-Madison alum. She was dedicated to social work, in both her career and her volunteer work after retirement. In her spare time, she loved animals and nature, a good book, history, and travel. She was a dedicated wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend.
There are no words to describe such a person. The spark of her humor, the warmth of her heart, the power of her optimism. Within Aunt Nancy, there was a deep, genuine kindness. She believed in people, even those who did not believe in themselves. Her presence could only be experienced—like the hug of a warm blanket in the cold of winter (and maybe in the middle of summer, too), the deep conversation at dinner followed by the surprise of pineapple upside-down cake, the secure knot of your hiking shoes, the gentle purr of a cat, the band-aid after a cut (no matter how teeny-tiny), the plastic tiara that deems you the prettiest, prettiest princess.
As such, there are no words to describe her loss. We share in your pain, confusion, anger, and immense grief. We understand that many of you may have questions. What we can say is that Aunt Nancy was a strong survivor who fought a genetic kidney disease for most of her life. She went in for a watchman procedure to better improve her life, but the procedure had unforeseen complications. After nearly forty years since the time of her initial diagnosis, Aunt Nancy’s immense heart finally gave out. She is at peace. Please join us in a memorial luncheon service in her honor.
Thank you all. Maybe we’ve met you before, during family camping trips or drives to doctor’s appointments. Maybe we haven’t. But we are all connected by Aunt Nancy’s deep love and sense of community. For that, we are forever grateful to you and the time that you shared with our aunt. We wish there had been more time, but the grace of the universe is that we lived in this time together. We wouldn’t change a second.
🤍 Best,
