My earliest memory is of a slender young man who would always pick me up in his arms and greet me with love at my grandparents house in Goshen St. Elizabeth. I must have been around 1 or 2 years old, but somehow my consciousness never forgot the kindness. When I had more sense at around 8 years old, I asked my mom about who this kind person was and she said it was Uncle Moses. In my later years he would always greet me with a smile and a nickname "1 Gear". He always made me feel important and special. He taught me kindness, sharing, great work ethic and most of all, love for family and God. So on behalf of your older brother, Richard Laidlaw Blackwood (otherwise known as Uncle Dick), and his family. We want to thank God for allowing us to know you and for being a blessing in or lives. Love you Uncle Moses.

RIP Uncle Moses I will always remember those days when I spent time in Malton as a child. You always made sure the grill was up with jerk chicken and jerk pork and as adults when you came to visit you always came bearing gifts. You were a kind soul always giving. I will also never forget your strong work ethics you always wanted us as kids to get up early to start the day that was tough but now as an adult I see the wisdom in that.
Rest in Peace Uncle Moses you will be missed.

In the early stages of my life growing up in Malton uncle Moses Ensured that we had everything we needed. He grew us up in the best way possible. He would quote a Bible verse in almost every other sentences he spoke. He was so kind to everyone around him. There was never a dull moment with uncle Moses, I'll miss hearing your famous "Yes Sa". I still abide by a lot of things that you taught me, You live on through us as we have your traits. When in a hurry you always said "tek yu time and hurry up" which was funny, so tek u time in heaven uncs, rest well, love you always.

It’s an honor to be called son-in-law to the honorable Mr Moses Blackwood. He truly treated me as his son-in-love, not a son-in-law. Iove him right back and he is never ever forgotten. 🖤💛💚

A Tribute to Uncle Moses

Uncle Moses was a kind and loving soul who cherished family and togetherness above all else. He was the bridge that connected so many of his loved ones, ensuring that the bonds of family remained strong. His warmth, sincerity, and generous heart touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

He carried an unwavering love for those around him, always ready to offer support, share a laugh, or simply be present in times of need. His presence brought joy, comfort, and a sense of belonging, making every gathering more special.

Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the countless memories he created and the love he so freely gave. His impact will never be forgotten, and his legacy of kindness and unity will continue to inspire.

Rest in peace, Uncle Moses. You will always be remembered and deeply missed.

Uncle Moses, brother to the late Miriam, our mother. You were a man of substance. Thank you for imparting your knowledge and wisdom, your joy, love and kindness. Rest in eternal peace.

Here is a poem for you:
When Great Trees Fall

by Maya Angelou
When great trees fall,

rocks on distant hills shudder, lions hunker down
 in tall grasses,

and even elephants
 lumber after safety.

When great trees fall

in forests,
 small things recoil into silence,
 their senses
 eroded beyond fear.

When great souls die,
 the air around us becomes
 light, rare, sterile.

We breathe, briefly.
Our eyes, briefly,
 see with
 a hurtful clarity.

Our memory, suddenly sharpened,
 examines,

gnaws on kind words
 unsaid,

promised walks
 never taken.

Great souls die and
 our reality, bound to
 them, takes leave of us.

Our souls,
 dependent upon their

nurture,
 now shrink, wizened.

Our minds, formed
 and informed by their
 radiance,
fall away.

We are not so much maddened

as reduced to the unutterable ignorance
of dark, cold
 caves.

And when great souls die,
 after a period peace blooms,
slowly and always
 irregularly. Spaces fill
 with a kind of
 soothing electric vibration.

Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.

They existed. They existed.

We can be. Be and be
 better. For they existed.

Dearest family and friends,

We are here today to say goodbye to my beloved uncle Moses, a man whose kindness and generosity touched all of us. Growing up, Uncle Moses was always there with a smile, a listening ear, and a heart full of love. He made me feel , valued, and safe. His unwavering support and the warmth he showed will always be a part of me.

Uncle Moses had a special way of making everyone feel important, and his gentle spirit, joyful laughter, and quiet strength are qualities I will forever cherish. Though the pain of his loss is deep, I find comfort in knowing that the love he gave us will never fade.

Thank you, Uncle Moses, for all the memories and for being the incredible person you were. You will be missed more than words can express, but your legacy will live on in all of us. Rest peacefully.
