Biography

This is her story, this is her song.
Psalm 121 v 1-3 KJV was her favorite morning psalm:
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.”

On April 29, 2025, our God-loving and God-fearing Mama Millie was called to eternal glory. She sadly left behind her beloved children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, family and many loved ones across the globe.

Three years after suffering a stroke, while her grandchildren were planning her 90th birthday for May 16, on April 29th, 2025 she was peacefully called on to glory at the Bermuah Royal Hospital in East Legon. Her daughters Joyce, Princess Asie, Esta and sons-in-law, Steve Amoaning-Yankson and Kwasi Twum and nephew - Rev. Djabaku Ocansey and spiritual daughter, Mrs. Maami Hajar, among other loved ones, were present.

She will forever be cherished and never forgotten. She has touched many lives impacting many! She has left an indelible mark on our hearts! Mrs. Millicent Ara Oboney Ocansey, any challenger, no challenger!

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God;

Mama From the day I was born, you held me close, not just in your arms but in your heart. You named me after yourself and called me your handbag, because wherever you went, I was there too. Growing up with you in Community 10 was a blessing beyond words. You were more than a grandmother to me, I enjoyed every moment you spent with the boys and I in London, Brooklyn will always be by your side and helping you do everything, it was a time of our lives we will cherish forever, Mama you was my mother, my protector, my defender, and my greatest comfort. Losing you feels like losing a part of myself. I love you deeply, and I will carry your love and legacy with me always and forever

You made my childhood unforgettable.
I always looked forward to visiting Community 10, especially during the summer. Those vacations were the best part of my year—spending long, joyful days with you. You taught me to speak Ga, we picked mangoes together, fed your birds every morning after devotion and every evening ended with telenovelas and a cup of hot chocolate (hot -choc) before bed.

Your love was steady, gentle yet firm, and full of joy. The impact you had on my life is something I carry with me always—a constant reminder of how powerful and beautiful your love was.

Thank you for everything, Grandma. I miss you deeply.

Our dearest auntie Millie .we all have nothing but fond memories of you from our childhood till our adulthood . From our trips to Tema community 10 to see you and our cousins , to our trips to community 1 to have our hair done at the salon. . The excitement we all felt was palpable, because it was always fun times, and you always had the biggest smile to see us. we are all very very sad about your passing, but glad you are not in pain anymore. So for that alone we give thanks to God. May your soul rest in eternal peace 🙏 🙏🙏

Thank you being a huge part of my childhood. I'll always remember Saturday game nights after dinner and then going up to watch Music Music and Concert Party. Oh my, all the telenovelas I ever watched were on your TV - and you'd bargain with my mom to increase my bedtime so I could catch an episode of Rosalinda on Sunday nights.
