Michael Jimoh Ashaolu

To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.

Obituary

Michael Jimoh Ashaolu– affectionately known as Asiwaju – was a man whose greatest pride was his family. Born on April 4, 1945, in Odo-Owa, Igbede, Kwara State, Nigeria, he spent 80 remarkable years building a legacy not of wealth, but of love, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to those he called his own.

To the world, he was a respected educator who retired as Headmaster of St. Thomas Primary School, Odoowa in 2007, known for making mathematics feel like magic. But to his family, he was everything. A provider who gave before he took. A father who sacrificed so his children could have more than he ever did. A man who held his family in the highest esteem and made sure they knew it every single day.

Asiwaju believed that family was life's greatest blessing, and he lived that belief. He worked tirelessly, gave generously, and loved deeply. Every decision he made, every sacrifice he endured, was for Victoria and the children. Their success was his joy. Their happiness was his reward.

And through it all, he kept everyone laughing. Asiwaju could light up any room with his jokes – the kind that made you groan and giggle at the same time. His humor was his gift to the family, a reminder not to take life too seriously, even when times were hard.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Victoria Omotayo, his six children, and 20 grandchildren who carry pieces of him in their hearts. They are his true legacy – living proof of a man who gave everything for the people he loved.
Rest well, Asiwaju. Your family will hold you in the highest esteem, always – just as you held them.

"In loving memory of Chief Michael Jimoh Ashaolu

I write this tribute in honour of
Chief M.J Ashaolu on behalf of my entire family (the Idioha's family).
Chief Micheal was a good and caring man who welcomed my daughter with open arms, treating her like his own. I vividly remember our first visit to Kwara state, before our daughter joined their family - he and his wife received us with such love and warmth. They took us around their family home, showing us the heart of their family, assuring us our daughter was in good hands. That gesture gave us peace of mind. My husband would have had a lot to say about Chief M.J if he was still alive, I'm grateful God brought our families together through our children, creating a beautiful bond. May his soul rest in perfect peace."

*Tribute to My Beloved Husband*

I write this tribute in memory of my sweetheart, Chief M.J. Ashaolu, Asiwaju of Igbede, Odo Owa, Kwara State.

Your passing has left a gaping hole in my life, but I take solace in the memories we shared. I've cried so much, but I know tears won't bring you back.
What can I say about you, dear? You've been a wonderful husband, showing me love without reserve, supporting me, guiding me, and being my rock.

Your love and care have left a void, Baba Femi. Your memory stays with me the way you'd always return home by 5pm, the laughter, the quiet moments, the dreams we shared. Now, I gaze at the gate, waiting, hoping, even though I know you won't walk through it again.

I thank God for our time together, for the life we built, and for the love we shared. Your passing has drawn me closer to God, and I pray the legacy you left will bring about a deeper faith in me and our loved ones.

I'll miss you forever, my love. I love you, but God loves you more.
Till we meet again, sweetheart, rest in perfect peace in the arms of Jesus.

Your wife,
Victoria Omotayo Ashaolu

*A Tribute to My Lovely Father*

"Daddy mi", it's hard to believe you're gone. Our last conversation still echoes in my mind, and now there's no one to call "Daddy mi" again. You didn't open your eyes for two weeks, but when I saw you that day, you welcomed me with a gaze that still haunts me. I was happy you had seen me, and we chatted like usual... and then you slipped away in my arms .

I keep trying your number, hoping to hear your voice, but it's silent now. May your soul rest in perfect peace, "Daddy mi".

A tribute to selfless leader and patriot.
We are writing this tribute with a deep sense of loss but with grateful heart to God Almighty for the selfless life of a great man who's a patriot, an opinion moulder, a charismatic leader, a man of integrity and principle, vision and mission.
A man who was committed to the cause of defending the rights and liberty of the society he found himself. Very selfless, forthright and indeed of impeccable character.
He lives on in our community with his deeds clearly manifested as a model of family and community man.
Your demise was like a dream, we are saddened by your leaving us at a critical period like this taking cognizance of immense sacrifices and contribution to the family growth.
We are however very hopeful that the legacy which you have left behind shall be the fulcrum and harbinger to the younger generations in their quest for service delivery to our community. His legacy leaves on.
Good night our dear in-law, a mighty man of valour.

Tribute to My Father In-Love
Daddy! As I fondly call you. It took me some time to truly understand you, but once I did, we bonded beautifully and shared playful moments anytime we had the opportunity to meet and talk as you constantly teased me and I always responded with humour😁The news of your passing hit me like a bolt from the blue; i didn’t see that coming as I never expected it. I had no idea you were so ill, and contemplating your death was far from my mind. Yet, here we are. 🤦🏻
You were a man full of humor, always ready to share a laugh. My husband often tells me stories of how you raised them—with tough love, discipline, and countless sacrifices. You may not have had much in terms of material wealth, but you gave your ALL!
I remember our last conversation vividly. I jokingly told you in Yoruba Daddy, esora yin o, you scared us, which means mind yourself o in laid back Nigerian language, and you asked, "What did you do?" I replied that we were concerned when we heard you were hospitalized. You smiled and reassured me, "But I am better now and back home." And I said Thank God! Little did I know that would be our final exchange before trip to the great beyond.
Your memory will forever live on and we won’t forget you in a hurry especially since my husband looks so much like you even the way he walks😊. I take comfort in knowing you embraced Christ before you left us, which is the most important thing (Mark 8:36). I know you are free now, I know you are no longer in pain, I know you heard the Call and you had to go, I know for a fact that you have found your PEACE at the end of your journey!
Rest now, Daddy. Rest in peace until the resurrection morning.

To My Sweet father,

Words of mouth can’t express what you meant to me. I wept profusely on hearing of your demise and even with all the tears still, I cannot see you.

Oh my sweet father, thank you for your love and care.
It was just like a dream when I heard that you were dead for complete three hours after which I couldn’t get myself. Death took something so precious to me but in the end I thank God for the Life you lived.

My father, Good night.
Rest In Peace.

Tribute to My Father-in-Law

Your passing last year left a quiet but profound emptiness in our hearts. You were a man of calm strength, wisdom, and dignity, whose presence brought reassurance and whose words carried depth and purpose.

You embodied kindness without noise, leadership without pride, and love without conditions. Your values, principles, and character continue to speak even in your absence. My first time meeting you, i never felt a need to worry that I was in the wrong place because you welcomed me as a son.

Though you are no longer with us physically, your impact endures in the lives you touched, the family you nurtured. We honour your memory with gratitude, respect, and love.

You will always be remembered, always cherished, and never forgotten.

May your soul rest in perfect peace.

*Tribute to Our Beloved Grandpa*

We're writing this with heavy hearts but grateful for the incredible life of our loving grandpa. He was more than just a grandfather he was our joy, our happiness, and our holiday blessings.

Whenever we visited, he'd greet us with a big smile and a loving heart, always making sure we left with gifts and beautiful memories .

He'd shower us with balls to play with, biscuits, sweets, and money. These were small gestures, but they spoke volumes of his love and care. He made us feel special, remembered, and deeply loved . His kindness, generosity, and affection will stay with us forever.

Though he's gone, the beautiful memories we shared will never fade. We'll always remember his love, smile, and caring spirit . Rest in perfect peace, dear Grandpa. You'll always be remembered and greatly missed.

TRIBUTE TO A MAN OF PEACE

I am honored to pay tribute to the memory of a pillar of Igbede Community - the first Asiwaju of Igbede, Elder Chf Michael Jimoh Ashaolu.
Asiwaju's times were marked by tremendous growth and development in terms of employment for many of our young men and women.
Elder Michael J. Ashaolu, popularly called " Father Macho" was a gentleman to the core who made sure he was cordial and at peace with everyone he came across.

He was an epitome of humility and peace as he would patiently explain his stand or view to resolve any knotty issue or disagreement.

He was instrumental in bringing the elites of Igbede together on a platform in the social media for the exchange and sharing of ideas and information.

He will surely be remembered among us for long.

In Loving Memory of my beloved dad.

Chief Micheal Jimoh Ashaolu was a man who lived a life of purpose, guided by God's grace till his last breath. Four months before his transition, he visited Abuja, shared heartfelt moments with me and was led to Christ.

His journey was marked by sacrifice, discipline, and love for peace. He ensured his children were educated, and his community felt his positive impact.

As the firstborn, I witnessed firsthand, his unwavering commitment to our upbringing, keeping us on the right path with firm yet loving discipline.

Dad, you were a blessing. Your calls kept me connected, but the last one I made, you couldn't answer . Your legacy lives on in us, in our community, and in the lives you've touched. May your soul rest in peace. We will meet again.

*In Loving Memory of My Amazing Grandpa*

We celebrate a man of boundless love and sacrifice. My grandpa was a guardian angel, always putting others first—especially me. He’d go to great lengths to soften my parents’ hearts when I needed it most, shielding me with kindness. In his final days, our bond grew even deeper as I cared for him through illness. His legacy of love, care, and selflessness lives on in my heart. I miss him more than words can say. May his soul rest in peace.

My Father, My Forever Hero,

My father never wore a cape. He wore the scars of hard labor on his hands, the weight of our futures in his tired eyes, and a heart so selfless it gave and gave and gave — and never once asked to receive.

From a salary that barely stretched, he sent me to university — not because he could afford it, but because he refused to let money decide the size of my future. He bet on me when betting on me meant going without. He chose my dreams over his own comfort, and never once made me feel like a burden.

I close my eyes and I'm a child again, sitting beside him, numbers swimming on the page. He never lost patience. Never made me feel small. Somewhere between the multiplication tables, he was teaching me to believe in myself. I carry those evenings now like sacred things.

In all my years, I never once saw him raise his hand against my mother. Not once. He was living proof that real strength is gentle, that love is patient, that the measure of a man lives in how he treats those who depend on him.

When we grew older, he stopped drinking — quietly, without announcement. He simply decided his children deserved a father fully present. No one asked him to change. He asked it of himself.
Though farming fed us, education was his religion. He pulled us from the fields the moment we entered higher institutions. He would rather break his back alone than let us divide our focus. He protected our dreams like glass — because to him, they were.

Now I am a father. Only now do I understand the weight he carried — the silent fears, the sleepless nights, the thousand invisible sacrifices of putting yourself last. I pray my children will one day look at me the way I still look at him.

Dad, your chair is empty now. Grief finds me without warning, and I miss you so much it takes my breath. I long for one more evening at that table, your patience surrounding me like a blanket.
But you are not gone. You live in my discipline, my patience, my love. Every good thing I am traces back to you.

Rest now, my hero. You left behind a son who will spend his whole life making you proud.
Loved beyond words. Remembered in everything. Missed beyond measure.
Until we meet again.
