After typing and retyping this message I am realizing the right words just do not exist. I don’t think any of us were prepared to have to find the words. I’ve only ever known the intact cousin crew and it is devastating to face the loss of one of us. I think Matt and I had a lot in common. I mourn the loss of him and the lost opportunity to know him better and longer. My heart is with Aunt Kimmy and Bill and with all of my cousins, especially Connor. I know so many people are heartbroken right now. My heart is with you, Matt.

Matt has and will always hold a special place in my heart- one that is filled with cherished memories of conversations we had and of times we spent together. While it feels like we didn’t get him nearly long enough on Earth, I feel certain he is with Mom and Dad. I’m so thankful that I am his aunt.
Kimmy, Bill, Duane, Jen, Connor, Mere, Ellie, Ava, Grayson and Will- all my love and strength to you. I am praying for peace and comfort. Love, Jenny

Matt was a caring, supportive friend through thick and thin. We were much like brothers. We both loved getting out in nature - swimming in the ocean, hiking and trail-running, relaxing in the sand. We enjoyed cooking meals for each other, or grilling together and serving others. We spent lots of time together just watching movies, listening to music, and making each other laugh. He had a gift for appreciating what others were enthusiastic about, even if it was not his cup of tea, and encouraging them to follow their passions. I will hold tight to memories of our time together, and will strive to honor my friend in the way I live my life. My warmest condolences go out to his family, and all who are feeling the absence of such a wonderful person.
